  • Why Biophilic design and why now?
Although the concepts of Biophilia have been around since the 1970’s it’s only now that many of us are learning about this compelling nature-based design ethos to create happier healthier spaces for both people and planet.
In the first of Planted’s panel discussions we bring together a diverse group of academics, educators, and architects to investigate why Biophilic design is rising up the built environment agenda right now. The panel discussion will cover
    · Its origins and benefits as an evolutionary design-based system.
    · How it can appeal to the body’s senses to aid stress reduction and recuperation
    · What’s changed in our lives and cities to make it so essential in a post pandemic world
    · How best to implement it in the many cramped urban spaces we inhabit
    · How to overcome the barriers to implementation with an evidence based business case
    · Why it’s an essential consideration to create regenerative solutions
    · What the future holds for biophilic cities
Panellists: Dr Alia Fadel (Leeds Becket University), Roddy Langmuir (Cullinan Architects), Vanessa Champion (Journal of Biophilic Design)

I had the pleasure of being on the "Biophilic Design Explained" panel in the Planted Cities event, Kings Cross, London, UK. It was great to discuss the shared passion and believe in the value of Biophilic Design with Vanessa Champion and Roddy Langmuir in the interesting panel discussion moderated by Oliver Heath. Thank you Planted Cities and Oliver for inviting me onto the panel and supporting Biophilic Design. Biophilic Design is an excellent theme to advocate for the role of integrated nature-driven therapeutic moments for human and earth co-restoration, survival, and revival.

What an excellent event! So very pertinent to our current activities, although we do need to do much more. Events like this stimulate this, and thanks to all the speakers. Nice one Alia!
