This is only to show how to get this connected, the posibilities for software are endless I guess. Check the links below for the units and other channel explaining SDR software.

Good quick overview. One thing that should be mentioned, go to Options, then RF front-end Frequency Options and put in your First IF frequency so the HDSDR display matches your radio display (3.806.400) and not the product of the First IF plus actual received frequency that displays as 70.455.000. Very simple thing, and well worth the few seconds to do it.
When coupled with radio control software ( DX labs, HRD, etc.) control of frequency is as simple as mouse click on the signal you want to receive AND TX on! Almost like having a full SDR radio, like a Flex or Anan or Icom or the like.
Love that system with my Yaesu FT450D.

Although I haven't used my rtl dongles as an if stage. I have played with them a bit. I recently discovered using a mag loop does great with it. Because with its wide ears it can bring in a lot of signals including intermod and noise you don't want. So the sharp tuning of a mag loop helps tremendously.

Hi Eric, Keep your UA-cam channel videos coming. They are very informative! I have recently purchased a Xiegu G90 and would like to use it with the dongle. Do you have a reference to the cable adapter? I beleive it is a SMA male to a 3.5mm Stereo plug for the G90. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Tanks, Jim - W3COX

Is it possible to use this setup (or similar) with a Xiegu G90?

If your laptop or monitor has Touch Screen, will this or any other waterfall software be able to utilize it?

RE: The RTL-SDR.com dongle there- you said
    >all the way up to 2.4GHz
Are you sure about that? I thought these were max 1.7GHz but I’d like to be wrong on this one!

I wonder about that myself, but dont think that theres a output in the 108 for that unless its the mini DIN plug that i use for HRD digital modes.

I cannot make this work. Have connected the xiagu with the cable, but don't understand why we have to put 70.455 and how to monitor frequencies. IF is on, but no signal changing the xiegu frequency on the monitor. would be nice if someone could help me in this one. Thanks!

    Hi,
I have the Nesdr Smart USB dongle to be used with an SDR on Windows - Yet as a reciever, but not as a dedicated Xiegu X5105.
Is there any difference between these dongles or can this dongle also be used?
And requires the use on that X5105 at the special port (I think the first stage ZF, or first intermediate frequency signal) any different frequency range instead the orginal?
I am not a HAM, but think, that the first stage grabs the freqiency band at a setup frequency and after the ZF, you may have the IQ. Is it compareable to this? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superheterodyne_receiver
    Thanks

Thanks a lot, this is really very cool! The one thing you didn't mention regards radio control. Can you now control the X5105 from the software, and vice-versa?

I should probably not comment because it's late and I'm almost asleep - but I'll forgot if I go to bed now. So, I'm not sure I get the point of hooking RTL-SDR to the Xiegu X5105 my impression is that the dongle with an antenna will cover everything from 500kHz to 1.7GHz. What exactly is the Xiegu doing - besides passing the antenna through to the dongle? Doesn't Ham Radio Deluxe have a waterfall with out the RTL-SDR? Am I looking at this he wrong way? - brain slow, need sleep.
    .
Feel free to slap me upside the head with the stick of enlightenment.

I was thinking the same thing, I would also like to know.

    • @FormalPluto

@@greenolive1278 He's using a inexpensive USB SDR dongle as a panadapter (a visual display of the RF spectrum and waterfall) for the Xiegu X5105, which looks 'prettier' than the built-in LCD on the radio. The USB SDR dongle is not connected to the antenna on the X5105, but to the IF-signal output port (which is right below the antenna). This port can be used to connect the X5105 to the Xiegu GSOC, the newest remote controller/spectrum & waterfall display (which is ~$450).
The X5105 has a fairly utilitarian interface, so if think of this setup as an low-cost external graphic display for the radio interface.
