I just got another Western Digital external drive, this time the My Book 12 TB version. Watch this to make sure you format the drive so you can use on Mac and Windows PC at the same time.

Is it enough to format it on mac only? Or do we need it formated in mac and windows too? I still pretty confused about it

you can use it either way, its just better to format it to work on mac or pc in my opinion

Why is an adapter made for this hard while the rest of the external drives do not have adapters?

Harddrives are power consuming devices. Other external portable hardrives are 2.5 inches one which can be easily powered by tablet / smartphone.

iv'e had pretty good luck with mine, i did have one older style hard drive that wouldn't work right on my mac but luckily after moving files to a different drive, I got it to work again
