My top 5 list: 5. Kid Haters These are the kinds of people who are like, "Oh, he's a kid? This should be easy." They think that every single kid out there sucks at the game, when, if you are smart, this is not true. Now many kids may seem inexperienced, and it's because they are. If they were an adult, they would be inexperienced too. Now, being a kid myself (obviously) I haven't noticed this too much. This is okay if it is minor, but I'm sure there are people who think kids suck no matter what. 4. Try Hards These people never let you go back on anything, even in a casual event. Sure, if it is a tourny, I get it. But just sitting down. playing casual commander should not be the place to tryhard. The stupidest things, like drawing before untapping, and they get all ragey. 3. RAGERS "WTF!!! I SHOULD HAVE WON THAT!!! *Flips table 2. Convincers These are the people that try with all their might to distract you to the fullest. Playing Grixis Delver (A complicated deck) in the finals against Abzan? They talk about their dog. Trying to make a crucial decision? "You should do that!" Just playing and your opponent misses something that is reasonable to not tell them about? "You forgot to do that." 1. Cheaters Do I have to explain this?
I haven't played magic in person in years, but I really enjoy your videos. Most of the technical stuff flys over my head, but you make me intersted in buying magic cards for the first since I last played in the mid-90's. So WotC should make you CEO.
On number 2, when you said "steal their decks", i kinda got a little teary eyed because last year i had constructed this brand new, homebrew zombie deck and it won a game here and there and then i heard of relentless dead (i was getting back into mtg) and i bought one and threw it in, eventually even bought a invocation card to make the deck flashy. And lo and behold, my deckbox got stolen while i was doing a fnm draft the next week and i didnt even get to play the deck w/ the new cards. I have nothing wrong against your video, just hit me hard to where i kept screaming in my head #1 has GOT TO BE deck thieves. Well now that i got that out of my system, just wanted to say 2 more things: 1, i really enjoyed your video, so keep up the great work; and 2, my fingers are now really cramped because i typed this on a flip-phone.
Cheaters may be bad, but if you ever steal someone's cards you may as well be wearing a sign around your neck that says "hey, just fucking spit on me!".
I would say- Smelly Obese Neckbeards: clog the tables and walkways, smell, if they fart, clear the room. The Smart Assed Know it All: They always know the better card, the better deck, the better play. One of their favorite quotes,"Then you would really hate my xxxx deck, it does xxxx by turn x and kills you". The Alpha of the Betas: The guy that has the girlfriend with him, she isn't there to play so well, mixes Smart Assed Know it All with weird conversations with his girlfriend about their sex life. Forms a dynamic duo with-The Loud Fat Girl or the Whiner. The Whiner/Witch: This is that girl or woman that plays obnoxious decks, especially in two headed giant or commander. They are fun and smile when everything goes their way, but don't be the guy that sees their growing table threat and starts in on counters/removal or attacks. All of a sudden, you are the bad guy at the table when you hear the cry,"Why are you attacking me!" When you continue to, fits will be throws and names will be called. Also look out for the pouts and rages. Can also be male. See-person that plays a Purphoros deck in commander, has been trolling the table with Norin the Wary, then resolves a Thopter Assembly. Then, Purphoros gets exiled, Thopter Assembly destroyed and about 25+ swing damage coming their way. They have single handedly dropped the table at least 60 total life points in a matter of turns. They then say,"Why are you attacking me? I haven't attacked, I haven't done anything! Stop it!" The Loud Fat Girl: She is the neckbeard of female gamers and her thunderous laugh is heard all night. May be seen with Alpha of the Betas. She may be jolly, but boy does she break concentration by boisterously laughing at EVERYTHING. The Poor Sportsman: Can never admit a loss. Throws fits if he loses even one match to someone, or a deck he does not deem worthy, usually a Net-Decker and and a Try-Hard. Also mixes with Smart Assed Know it All. Don't be the guy or gal without a tier one deck that beats this guy. Its always that he was mana screwed or you were lucky or he had a horrible hand(Even if you did have to mulligan). The Net Decker: Not that it can be bad at all times, but this guy hasn't had an original idea in years. When he says he is thinking about making a new deck, you know its gonna be off of a Pro Tour top eight list. He says he likes playing the decks, when in reality, he is just a vessel for the decks to play themselves. Almost anything that doesn't fit into a net deck category leaves him on slow plays, always checking your cards and generally thrown for a loop. If he loses, he can turn into the Poor Sportsman. 9/10 times, he is also a Try Hard. The Try Hard: This guy acts like he lives and breaths cardboard. Winning means everything. It's not a game anymore folks. This guy doesn't let a thing slip. But do be aware of this guy's pride getting to him and he turns strait into the Cheater. He will make sure that, no matter who his opponent is, that their deck is smashed. There is nothing casual about the game to him. Usually a control/combo player. Their decks are as painfully annoying as the players-See Ensnaring Bridge Deck. The Cheater: This is the guy that peaks cards, double draws, free scrys, mana weaves or strait up stacks his deck. He will take advantage of newer players by missing triggers. He will misquote rules. He is the guy that always has his deck ready when you walk up to play and just taps yours and you tap his back. He then goes about getting the perfect mana curve and every answer in his deck. Has many traits of a Smart Assed Know it All and Try Hard. Usually a Twitch as well, as his cheating is his high. He probably gets more off of getting away with a cheat then he does winning. The Twitch: This guy has had too many Monsters and is doing the hand shuffle/flick...all of the time. He plays with his lands, they are never in the right position. He vibrates his cards when he attacks like they are some kind of live action JRPG. He taps lands, then second guesses, then taps, then takes it back. He looks at the table with great intent-Tapped out, no cards in hand, tapped creature on his side. You play a creature. He stares at it, plays with his lands, shuffles the cards in his hand, straitens his lands again, then says,"Ok, that's fine". As if he had an answer to begin with. Usually a Try Hard. Well, those are my tops. I can deal with casual beginners and kids(as long as they know what they are doing to some extent). I can deal with people that build good decks. Heck, I can deal with people that Net Deck, but then turn the deck into something of their own. Its all about the attitude(or hygiene).
+pine cone I would say hygiene can be a major issue as well, and it is not any particular size, gender or age group. I have played against players with such bad BO and/or breath that I wondered whether it was actually part of their strategy. I have gone home from a draft and changed my clothes because, an hour later, I still smell like that person! :P
SIeepwalker1 Its not about having a girlfriend, its when they play and start having loud conversations about how much sex they have, or some other torrid details of their relationship. Especially if they are losing. They assume no one else has a person to go home with, being MTG players, so they throw in something akin to,"Don't care if I lose, I am getting laid tonight" at their opponent. Or the lap sitting, excessive PDA or, dare I say, "helping" with drafting among other things.
Jim Fitzpatrick You are right, sometimes it has nothing to do with how overweight the person is when it comes to hygiene. I could say, embarrassingly enough, that I had bad hygiene as a gamer in high school. I have since learned and became aware of how nasty it makes other people feel. The thing about the big guys is, you constantly have to move for them, ask them to move, or wait for them to clear out the usually congested aisles of the game store. I guess its a required proximity thing with them. Not saying that all heavyweights are like this at all. Its just that the ones that are obese and smell make the whole experience all the more uncomfortable.
I knew what #1 was going to be because that is my #2. My number 1 is thieves. I have some old MtG cards that a ripped from packs back in the day and are now worth money. I actually HATE that they are worth money because now I'm afraid to play them anywhere. As the value of MtG cards continues to endlessly go up, a more unsavory element has made itself known more and more. I've lost hundreds of dollars in cards from thieves. It's to the point I don't want people to look at my deck because I'm afraid people are going to switch out my cards. I started running purple sleeves so no one would mistake my cards for theirs and now everyone is running purple sleeves. It's getting to be a real problem.
In order to deal with try hards, be a troll. Do everything that seems like you don't even care about the game. It will make them angry and they will make mistakes, and maybe even scoop em up.
The Rage Guy, this is my favorite. I have been playing off and on for the last twenty years. Yeah I'm old and do not have as many good cards as you may think. I would always come back and play every once and awhile and if I was lucky enough a casual player like myself would beat one of these too good to lose guys. I have seen a few world class fits which resulted in people storming out of stores. Great video
I'm super new to Magic, as in 2-3 months new. Could you make a guide to a players first FNM? I have yet to attend one. Love your videos, keep up the great quality!
I remember my first FNM. I managed to win the first two rounds and i was really happy. Third round i ended up against a complete prick. I was still very new, and i had no idea what 99% of the cards did, and i remember this guy would play a card, and then silently start moving the board around, playing tokens, moving counters, and i had no idea what was going on. I lost the first game pretty hard, then the store owner waved me over and literally told me to pay more attention and call the judge if i think he's cheating, because the guy had a history in the store. So halfway through second game, i notice that he stacks all his land cards on top of each other. He doesn't spread them out, nope. Flat on top of each other. So after he played a couple spells and a creature, i called the judge over. Turns out he was played 8 mana worth of cards, with only 5 lands on the field. Even though it was super minor, the judge DQ'd him because he'd been caught cheating in the exact same way several times (at the same store).
my friend has beat that land record I mean his deck was a joke deck and it was just hilarious it was lost in the woods just 4 copies of those and 57 lands
When I was going to Friday night magic on a regular basis there were 3 people who I had a problem with. The one guy who just dragged out the game as long as possible. I think he thought that it gave him an advantage as his opponent would get bored and stop paying attention. There was this other guy who would make up rules midgame. When I was a new player I would fall for this a lot, but still end up winning. And then third guy, he would play mind games. He was good at it too. He would get you to focus on other things or slightly nudge ideas into your mind. I didn't have any personal issue with him or how he plays. I personally think it is a valid part of the game, even though I don't like doing it. I just didn't enjoy playing against him.
I would say some of my top people I could do without are: People. That's it. Just most people in general. I grew up playing back in high school (93-96) and after having some of my cards stolen, stopped for a while. I picked up again in the army around 98-2000, and again had cards stolen. That was basically it, I was done playing. Still, I carried my cards with me everywhere I moved, until one day, I decided I just didn't need them anymore. So I sold them and thought the $700 I got for all my cards was a pretty good deal, considering I never even used them. That is, until I started playing again (my gf's son plays, so I picked the game up again after almost 2 decades of silence.) Turns out that those Alpha through Revised cards I had were worth substantially more than $700. Add to that, the knowledge that Wizards is never printing most of them again, so I'd have to shell out $700 for most of them individually if I wanted them again just makes me that much angrier with people. Now when I go to my LGSs, I have to deal with rude people who alienate me because I'm effectively a "new" gamer because I took so long off. During my first ever draft (because we never did that stuff back in the day) the store owner asked if anyone present had never drafted before, and I raised my hand. One guy (a regular at the store unfortunately) looked over and yelled "Are you kidding me!?" And as far as just general annoyances, I'd have to say people who are slothful, and people who look through open card bins and treat the cards as though no one else is going to think about looking at or buying them.
One reason to get mad (featured on lrr Friday nights: in command) at 100 life in commander and they wrath your board but your commander is a 10/9 indestructible. You then wrath their board then cast sorrin Markov making their life total 10
The only story at my lgs I've heard that's worth telling happened to me: in the Kaledesh pre-release and my opponent casts the 10/10 creature with affinity and I'm at 11 life. He casts sahelis artistry and copies it twice
Lmao this video made me laugh so hard because of your side comments. What's even funnier is I was thinking of the people I play Magic with and I have one friend that is serious 4 of those "people" in one match. He talks about his most amazing games that he came out with a win when there was no hope but somehow he did it, he thinks he's the best, thinks his deck should always win no matter what deck he is playing with, and rages if someone beats him. I witnessed him pout one time and I was holding back my laughter and that was tough for me because he thinks he is a tough guy. Thanks for this video because it made my day!
my favorite thing to do is to go to FNM and tell the person im facing i am new so they think its gonna be "so easy to win this game" and then they get steamrolled *by a mono blue control deck*
I think I may have you beat on the most land drops off the top. At OGW prerelease in the 3rd round I drew no lands at first, mulligan then draw 6 lands 1 creature. Mulligan down to 6... 5 lands and that same creature. Scry 1, land, put on bottom of library. Turn one he plays an ingest creature I draw a land (that's 6, technically 7 with the scry, of the top 8 cards at this moment). Second round he hits me with ingest, exiles my best card in the deck off the top of my library. On my turn I draw another land and pass turn. Round 3, ingests the second best card in my deck then I draw another land. Round 4 same thing again with ingest/land except now I can then play my creature. Round 5 he attacks. I say "if I block and trade with you this next one is gonna be another land, but if I eat the damage I bet you ingest something good again.. Okay I'll play the odds." So I block and we trade creatures. Next turn I draw another land, OF COURSE. After that I drew okay but quickly died
I was a judge for Star Wars and Star Trek through Decipher and we were not allowed to play in tournaments we hosted. We were there to keep the tournament going and making fair rulings. Also, I signed up on the Decipher website to be a judge ( circa 2000-2002)
I just moved to a new town and went to an FNM. Every player was running an alternative of W/U Flash I did not get to play Magic at my first FNM in this town. They where all nice though about countering every spell I casted post turn 3. That one night made me support the Reflector Mage ban
Im 14 and I play mtg. I got yelled at after going 3-0 in a draft. The guy told me i was a loser and I only won because I ripped zada's commando. I said i had 6 in the deck and he accused me of cheating so I had to get the people in my pod together and they all said red was open and they remembered seeing that many
+AliasSLH you can only have 4 in a constructed deck, but in a limited format like a Booster Draft you can have more then 4, it's just a chance of picking the same copy of that one card from each pack.
Hey I'm 15 and about a month ago my friend introduced me to magic. He gave me a pretty good starter deck and then I got a intro pack for battle for zendicar and also one for shadows over I inastrad. My uncle helped me make a red white allies deck, and I have a decent blue green deck as well. My friend and I have never been to a FNM. I want to go but I don't have any dice as well if I mess up I don't want them to think that I'm cheating and throw me out. Any help or advice would be greatThanks
At the game shop near where I live, they have a somewhat relaxed attitude towards players making mistakes. It might be different where you live, I don't know. As for dice, I bought a bunch of blank wooden cubes (you can get these at a craft store or else online) and painted numbers on them to use as dice. Because I made my own, I could use different colors for different things, like black for life and red for damage. If you want dice to roll, though, you can get a few 6-sided dice from just about anywhere. When painting cubes to use as life counters: paint the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 on one cube, and 6, 7, 8, 9, 0, 1 on another cube. That way you can count from 00 to 21 with just 2 cubes.
I love it when people would forgive a missed trigger against/for any player, but comment on it after the game and would then help in making the triggers, like with Zulaport Cutthroat and Nantuko Husk or Kalitria Healer and Captain's Claws even when it hurts them.
just a note on number four. Being a judge is super easy and requires no test for level zero (which can still judge prereleases and such because of the hard method to get level 1). you have to work so many events a year to keep the cert
I had another player at my LGS running Naya burn. at the end of the game had literally 13 land in play. he was running multiple fetch lands. and drew nothing but lands while I was at 3. he ended up losing. he was the most respectful person after that. shook my hand and told me good luck in the next round.
Thanks for the great videos! I'm a noob at magic and appreciate the info and advice. Sad though that people throw people's decks and steal them. That was actually the first thing I was warned about if I get into it.
I like what you said about the cheaters , I was at a draft with one of the most well known cheaters in the town, and he brought a friend with him, I remember beating his friend, and then as i was going against the cheater in the finals , he asked me if we could split and and not play, which didn’t make any sense because I knew he was the better player and had an even better chance of winning because his deck was probably set up with cards he brought in outside the draft, and I told him I didn’t want to split that I would rather just win, I ended up beating him 2-0, which to me felt like the best game of magic I’ve ever played in my life just because of the fact I beat a well know cheater
What about noobs? I have only recently started playing and I haven't attended any FNM or tourney but I am thinking about going to Eldritch Moon prerelease, will I get hissed at? :D
Once I was so tilted I played carelessly against a (bad) brew deck.. like really carelessly, yawning and stuff (I had a T1 deck). And the guy I was playing against got so frustrated I felt bad and I played every match thereafter somewhat serious. What do you think about these kind of people? (the one I once was)
+The M.T.G Master They're too slow to adapt and they get super mad when I beat them. Like there's a guy who has a couple year old Merfolk deck and I just Tyrranasaurus #REKT that deck with my new Merelfdrazi Killer deck aka "Black Death." They called it a stupid cheap gimmick and said it was bad and blah blah blah. There isn't a creature deck in modern that can reliably beat this deck. It's just OP as hell black creatures and single and mass kill spells. Like the best ones printed in the last 13 years for example. Nothing can survive it. I built a good, solid deck and they can all go eat a dick if they don't like it.
This Video reminds me of Situation we had at our local Gaming Store about nearly 20 years ago. The Store owner wanted to do some sort of magic tournament but did not have a clue about the rules. So he asked one of the local players to make the rules for the tournament. The guy was also participating and we just assumed he used the standard rules but no he did not. He just changed restricted lists to fit his Deck. He had like four sol Rings in his Deck which were not restricted for this tournament (but only he knew). That guy got in first place (surprise surprise).
sometimes I cheat, where at my school theres this kid, he runs a green blue investigate deck, and what I do is that when ever its his attack phase I say "do you end your turn?" and he always says yes before he does anything, funny thing is, is that hes kindof a try hard and he rages slighy
I remember when I pulled a Geist of Saint Traft while I was on vacation. Of course, since GoST is absolutely broken, one guy really wanted it saying it was worth 20 €. I politely rejected the offer, I don't trade Mythic Rares unless I happen to have another. He probably was happy to get his hands on Damnation, though. I got to bring GoST back to Finland as a souvenir, and guy got what he needed for his deck.
I gotta say that I agree with most of the points raised in this video with the exception of the comments about the net-deckers. I usually love to play against those people because they're usually completely unprepared for the decks I tend to use which take advantage of the fact that I sort of expect certain cards to be used by my opponents. I'd probably have a much lower win percentage without the sheep following their shepherds ;)
Those people that put cards without sleeves on the table and then when they try to pick up the card they try to do it by forcing a nail underneath the card. And they try and try and the nail continues to flick of the card and damaging the edge of the card a tiny bit, but you can just FEEL the agony of the card. So painful to watch.
Just looking for some honest opinions here. My friends and i just got into mtg and we have been playing for a little over two months. Out of the 4 of us only one of us is a veteran player. Most of the time we are playing a 4 way free for all. The only issue we are having is that our veteran player might be over helping friend 1. Basically what has started happening is that friend 2 and i will take a couple minutes at most on our turns. Our veteran play will also take very little time. Than comes friend 1’s turn. At this point our veteran player will start actively advising him about what he should attack with and what friend 1’s best options are. Friend 2 and i started keeping time on our phones and their record is 23:43, all spent with veteran helping friend 1 decide what to attack with and what cards he might have that could be useful. Bear in mind he plays a boros deck with several illegal cards and wins more often than not so he really doesnt need someone advising him. Side note, i dont mind if he wins, he built himself a strong deck and deserved most of his wins. But i digress, my question is this, at what point does table banter become cheating and should we confront them about it.where, (if at all) should we draw the line on advising. We have passively suggested putting a time limit on turns but veteran and friend 1 both shot this idea down.
Technically speaking the point it becomes cheating is when any player obtains information about another player's cards that they shouldn't have. For example, the cards in hand. From the sounds of it, friend 1 either doesn't want to play, or might have some sort of social disorder. If it's the former, I'd suggest just not pressuring them into playing. If it's the latter, I'd recommend taking the veteran aside and having a discussion about the behavior. Too much help is harmful, not helpful. There's also one pretty big aspect to consider... the format. Free-for-alls can be tricky, because often times players will feel targeted. A 4 player free-for-all is super fun, but it can easily feel like a 3v1, or in the case you're describing it seems more like a 2v1v1. That's not always a bad thing, mind you, but it's something to be aware of. Myself, my play group was 3 people, so it was always just a 3 way free-for-all, which inevitably ends up being 2v1 at some point. I often took pride in being that one, and would build my decks specifically to pose the biggest possible threat as fast as I could to make sure it happened, a super rewarding feeling when I won, and it didn't feel so bad losing that way for me. I think the point is, each playgroup is different, you just have to come to an understanding between you all about what is and isn't ok for your games.
Dont Misunderstand been a couple months since i posted that. That behavior has stopped. We confronted them about it and they more or less ignored us, but when the new cards dropped we went to a sealed event where veteran tried advising friend 1. Turns out that kind of behavior is not tolerated when there are prizes involved. Veteran and friend 1 almost got kicked out. They didnt but It did however end up costing friend 1 a match. When the owner of the store saw what was going on he called them out on it and counted it as a win for the other guy. Ever since than whenever veteran starts advising we just call for a judge. Obviously we dont have a judge in my apartment but reminding them of almost getting kicked out shuts veteran up on the spot.... im making my friends sound like assholes. They are good people, veteran is just a little bit of a brown noser when it comes to friend 1.
I'm actually glad I started looking up random card rulings, cause a few cards I thought were straight forward...actually weren't. (Biggest example would be Lyzolda the Blood Witch)
I love your videos and this one is perfect and it's the reason i don't play standard much cuz love your videos and keep up the good work and ya I would enjoy playing you
I had been playing Magic for about a week when I tried my new deck that I had built myself against this pretty experienced guy who sit at my lunch table in 10th grade. The way I had made it was buying about 150- 200 low cost black cards with effective synergy from tcgplayer, but not all of my cards had been delivered yet, and I was eager to try out my creation, so I patched together an aggressive demon type and used it. The game was about 13 to 7 before we had to cut it short because our lunch period was ending (I was winning, and not through just luck). When I was mid sentence, explaining to him the premise of my deck and how it was so effective with minimal setup he cut me off and literally said, "I mean you're so new, but you act like you know what you're talking about.". He pissed me off so much that I threw a water bottle so hard at the back of his head that it busted on impact.
Avacyn restored I pulled over 11 lands of the top of my deck. I was playing a mono green deck. With some mythic monsters and other big guy's. I had him on the ropes and then 11 lands..... I still won because I bluffed, he figured I had to have something in my hand and not 7 lands. Fun times. won the draft as well.
I notice I draw an extra card on my opponents turn when there is no chance of me winning even with that one random card after the match 0w 3l he was cool about it said if cheating doesn't help you win then what's the point now I've stopped cheating but I've quit magic since 2018 cuz my deck building skills are not good at all.
sometimes i legitimately forget about some things. I can be horribly scatter brained sometimes. Only stuff when i take damage or something though not any overdraw.
Im new and im just happy when my budget deck plays well against someone who has a multiples of a card that individually cost most of my deck. On my first match ever I almost won with a$30 dollar deck. It isn't much fun to play against someone who spends all their money in they earn on a deck. If you get a badass card in a booster then more power to you. I just don't see the point to building a $100+ deck for standard. It be really fun if it was pauper. You can spend the whole day in the card shop and spend less then $7 making an awesome common deck.
They're probably trying to be competitive. I don't get why people hate on people trying to be competitive just because they dont want to spend that much money on it.
in a game of commander i accidentally made myself draw 30 lands in a row, cause i used some combos to order my entire deck, and meant to put all the lands on the bottom, but accidentally set the suckers on top hahaha
the first town/non-offical tournament i went to among friends, i was the try hard. i really wanted to win, and did. but i complained and bitched and moaned very annoyingly at every bad draw and im still embarrassed about it to this day haha. never again.
umm ok so im kinda new to magic i say kinda because i have a booster box , an duel deck ,and a planeswalker deck, and i know the jest of the game but there are still some terms i dont understand , such as resolve, mono decks tho i think i know what that is, and also im not good a making decks so dose anyone have any tips?
cool list, i just wouldn't include people who don't bring trade binder to the unprepared group. Since the people that don't normally do it since they don't want to be hounded for trades when they aren't looking for anything in particular.
"Hey, so you guys wanna play a quick game? I only need like 6 more people c'mon just play." I've ran in to this so many times. The worst was at my Oath of the Gatewatch pre-release so there was this one guy he was like in his 30's and he didn't even participate in the pre-relase he literally sat there and waited for people to finish games early. Then he offered trades and offered to play with his modern mill deck.
I remember a time when I was younger. I believe I was a freshmen in high school and I was playing standard slivers (m14) and this guy blocked each of my creatures separately thus debuffing all my slivers and he kept doing that to practically kill all my slivers. I should've called a judge.
I remember to play with all kind of bad people like the ones described in the video and that is why I stopped playing Magic for years, then I moved to another city and I started to play Magic again a year ago and thanks God the local players are nice, it is impressive how different they are in here, they are very friendly and kind, I love to play here in Guadalajara, México. Have a nice day!
Ten lands? I know it was only a friendly EDH with my brother to test a deck I made. He shuffled it a number of times and drew 7. We started playing but he scooped after flooding hard. And as he then tested... The top 27 cards of his deck were lands
Honestly there is quite a lot to keep track of in a game of magic. I wouldn't directly call someone a cheater for missing a thing or two in a game. I remember a year ago at my first FNM I played out a Reclamation Sage for tempo and stated " You don't seem to have any enchantments, so no trigger". I had told him at the start that this is my first FNM and he had an Eidolon of the Great Revel on board. He could have told me that it was an ENCHANTMENT CREATURE. I had no idea there was such things. I feel like it was sort of a dick move. I have a couple of times pointed out that a creature has trample and such if they make a strange block. I know I don't need to tell them, but I feel like it is just fair game to point it out. One game I would have lethaled my opponent had I not told him that my token had trample. I ended up losing the game, but it was a fun game none the less. I think magic should be played a little like chess. If I'm checking my opponent he can't make a move that leaves him in a checked state. Magic could be a gentleman's sport, but sadly it isn't always.
"He flipped the table, then caught the table in midair, then hit the ref in the face with the table..."
And the ref waved at me.

My top 5 list:
5. Kid Haters
These are the kinds of people who are like, "Oh, he's a kid? This should be easy." They think that every single kid out there sucks at the game, when, if you are smart, this is not true. Now many kids may seem inexperienced, and it's because they are. If they were an adult, they would be inexperienced too. Now, being a kid myself (obviously) I haven't noticed this too much. This is okay if it is minor, but I'm sure there are people who think kids suck no matter what.
4. Try Hards
These people never let you go back on anything, even in a casual event. Sure, if it is a tourny, I get it. But just sitting down. playing casual commander should not be the place to tryhard. The stupidest things, like drawing before untapping, and they get all ragey.
3. RAGERS
"WTF!!! I SHOULD HAVE WON THAT!!! *Flips table
2. Convincers
These are the people that try with all their might to distract you to the fullest. Playing Grixis Delver (A complicated deck) in the finals against Abzan? They talk about their dog. Trying to make a crucial decision? "You should do that!" Just playing and your opponent misses something that is reasonable to not tell them about? "You forgot to do that."
1. Cheaters
Do I have to explain this?
I’m one of those kids bro I’m 15 then I go 3-1 at standard
yes you do have to answer that
1. Yes
@Amren van der Ploeg good for you ( :
I'm also that 'kid', I'm 14 and sometimes I'll pull through and make a sweaty tryhard a little mad...
I haven't played magic in person in years, but I really enjoy your videos. Most of the technical stuff flys over my head, but you make me intersted in buying magic cards for the first since I last played in the mid-90's. So WotC should make you CEO.
"That's why no one likes the New England Patriots." Subscribed.
You don't hate the Patriots. You hate the fact we have Brady and you don't. Because everyone knows without Brady we will lose in the 4th quarter.
Hey I ! Like the patriots

The date on those replies tho.
My locals has the top table matches on stream for the other players to watch.
You'd be amazed at how quickly the cheaters moved to another shop.
+Nathan L Have you considered that some people don't want to be on stream?
+Mike Cast maybe he already knew they were cheaters?
star city?
"I like getting my ass kicked, so just have it hoss"
I just turned thirteen and I play mtg but I live in a small town so there's no fnm so we made the teachers give us periods every day to play magic
Wheelie bro ! Boi how.
Nice
Wheelie bro ! Hmmmm. This sounds familiar. We had the same but i couldnt go there because i had chinese at exactly the same time.
You might be going to an awful school.
Wish my teachers were that much of a pushover
I would say-
Smelly Obese Neckbeards: clog the tables and walkways, smell, if they fart, clear the room.
Stop it!"
The Loud Fat Girl: She is the neckbeard of female gamers and her thunderous laugh is heard all night.
Lol were you super baked when you wrote that? Js b/c whenever iwrite something super super long im usually pretty high.
Nah, just bored.
One word: proxies.
OooH! Official MtG proxies made by WotC that look just like the originals! Yeah, that's not going to happen.
+Redfeild RE what would be really cool was just the name and some art for the proxies
use pee yellow sleeves
Redfeild RE you mean... collectors editions of beta?
sooooo basically its be a decent and reasonable person?
Number 1 will be those people who grab your deck off the table and flip through it and are like, "bro just scoop you're gonna lose"
Also, you idiot you're wrong..... Am I banned yet?
In order to deal with try hards, be a troll. Do everything that seems like you don't even care about the game. It will make them angry and they will make mistakes, and maybe even scoop em up.
The Devil now i understand your name. Lol
Good idea very good idea
The Rage Guy, this is my favorite. I have been playing off and on for the last twenty years. Yeah I'm old and do not have as many good cards as you may think. I would always come back and play every once and awhile and if I was lucky enough a casual player like myself would beat one of these too good to lose guys. I have seen a few world class fits which resulted in people storming out of stores. Great video
12:25 Yea the people who strom out are really annoying i hate playing storm
It's still a deck!
qGAMERACEp I've had some one throw my burn deck
I'd throw them right after that
*storm
Even though it was super minor, the judge DQ'd him because he'd been caught cheating in the exact same way several times (at the same store).
my friend has beat that land record I mean his deck was a joke deck and it was just hilarious it was lost in the woods just 4 copies of those and 57 lands
justin zarzycki I hope they were all basic forests
Basic lands ftw.
I'm a Johnny , so the biggest reaction you'll get from me is a monotone "well shit".
Another type of player I can't stand: Captain Money.
I just found your channel and subscribed :) you do nice videos, looking forward to see more!
Kind regards from Spain!
Bruh you hit me in the feels with the patriots joke :(
I would say some of my top people I could do without are:
People. One guy (a regular at the store unfortunately) looked over and yelled "Are you kidding me!?"
And as far as just general annoyances, I'd have to say people who are slothful, and people who look through open card bins and treat the cards as though no one else is going to think about looking at or buying them.
Funny and great content brotha. Keep on keeping with the videos.
One reason to get mad (featured on lrr Friday nights: in command) at 100 life in commander and they wrath your board but your commander is a 10/9 indestructible. You then wrath their board then cast sorrin Markov making their life total 10
Bailey Holmes love LRR too!
The only story at my lgs I've heard that's worth telling happened to me: in the Kaledesh pre-release and my opponent casts the 10/10 creature with affinity and I'm at 11 life. He casts sahelis artistry and copies it twice
I lost that game
At 7:34 I was surprised by Bolas's Citadel allowing a land play. Still doesn't make sense to me but hey...
I run a reanimator shell to enable my Legacy demon tribal but it mostly runs like reanimator. does that make me a Deck tecer?
bro! we started playing the same time! im so stoked on your channel rn too. i wonder if thats why.
I pulled 16 lands in a row... lets just say I was not gonna win in anyway possible.
I have a deck completely filled with destroy land cards, about 40 of them, it really pisses the opponent off but I always die lol
my favorite thing to do is to go to FNM and tell the person im facing i am new so they think its gonna be "so easy to win this game"
and then they get steamrolled
*by a mono blue control deck*
love your stuff. keep it up. brand new to magic haven't even gone to 1 fnm. any suggestions for new players?
This is the first video of yours that I have seen and so far I really like your content. Keep it up.
The one where we teach a golden retriever to play MTG is even better :P
+DesolatorMagic I started around ravnica block too...I just thought it was cool
WHERE CAN I FIND THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you! love your videos, btw!
I've never gone to fnm so this would be a stupid question to most but what format do they play there
What is net decking? Im not familiar with the term as Ive not attended tournaments outside of sealed.
+Craig Wortham Thank you for the explanation. That sounds boring to do. I like making theme decks with a little lore behind them for when I play.
i was gonna go "you idiot, you're wrong" jokingly but i like this channel so i'll just say:

I just moved to a new town and went to an FNM. Every player was running an alternative of W/U Flash I did not get to play Magic at my first FNM in this town. They where all nice though about countering every spell I casted post turn 3. That one night made me support the Reflector Mage ban
Im 14 and I play mtg. I got yelled at after going 3-0 in a draft. The guy told me i was a loser and I only won because I ripped zada's commando. I said i had 6 in the deck and he accused me of cheating so I had to get the people in my pod together and they all said red was open and they remembered seeing that many
+MTGrehab I'd just kick him in the nuts and tell him get go away :P
haha!
+MTGrehab yea cuz zadas cmmando is such a bomb
+AliasSLH you can only have 4 in a constructed deck, but in a limited format like a Booster Draft you can have more then 4, it's just a chance of picking the same copy of that one card from each pack.
I have never been to am fmn, what should I expect I only started playing after Christmas should I go?
Get a deck, some dice, and a way to record life (there's apps for a smartphone) also, money for admission and maybe a friend. Have fun!
I'm debating trying out FNM, but do game stores actually let players use cards from the Modern Ban List like Treasure Cruise?
if its a casual event its okay
New magic player here. I subbed off this vid. Good stuff.
Lmao. I love the warning you gave before number 0
No not at all. Pre releases are times for everyone to have fun, and new players are welcome
i think #7 is really just someone going to their first FNM
I love your vids! Keep Chungin along your channel is great!
Once I was so tilted I played carelessly against a (bad) brew deck.. like really carelessly, yawning and stuff (I had a T1 deck). And the guy I was playing against got so frustrated I felt bad and I played every match thereafter somewhat serious. What do you think about these kind of people? (the one I once was)
what do you think about people who have been playing from the beginning and have a lot of good and over powered cards/decks?
Love you videos. Keep them coming.
I love your channel so much, it's hilarious and great
I really like these kinds of videos because I'm new and I don't know much of the unspoken rules of fnm
Wasnt it an auto mulligan if you had all lands for your draw?
You smart man you're right! I can't make it to fmn at my lgs for reasons but man you make it sound like nerd heaven. That temptation of nerdvana xD
I'm actually glad I started looking up random card rulings, cause a few cards I thought were straight forward...actually weren't. (Biggest example would be Lyzolda the Blood Witch)
Thank you for making great informative videos me and my play group all love your videos
Ophidian Princess I bet
Avacyn restored I pulled over 11 lands of the top of my deck.
I was playing a mono green deck. With some mythic monsters and other big guy's.
I had him on the ropes and then 11 lands..... I still won because I bluffed, he figured I had to have something in my hand and not 7 lands.
Fun times. won the draft as well.
hey man. this video was pretty well done. I liked it and subscribed am looking forward to more content from you. :)
+shenronsgoldfish Thaaaaaanks :D I love your profile pic! I wish for.....hickory smoked tuna :D
DesolatorMagic "that wish is beyond my power"
I notice I draw an extra card on my opponents turn when there is no chance of me winning even with that one random card after the match 0w 3l he was cool about it said if cheating doesn't help you win then what's the point now I've stopped cheating but I've quit magic since 2018 cuz my deck building skills are not good at all.
sometimes i legitimately forget about some things. I can be horribly scatter brained sometimes. Only stuff when i take damage or something though not any overdraw.
love the top ten lists! keep it up dude!
#5 it's not against any federal laws to offer any price. You could offer someone 50 cents for jace the mindsculptor lol
Great perspective, it's this attitude that makes playing magic great. Standard is just a bad format
Oh my gosh... there was a number three at my LGS that got mad because my casual landfall deck beat a tier 1 deck.
New England Patriots joke? Subscribed.
I am a new player of magic the gathering which deck should i get red green or black or blue or white pick me should i play
What country were you born in?
I was born in the United state of American
Since you read all your comments. Is it in bad taste to buy a couple specific cards online for your already built deck?
i want some tips on building underated decks
still need some tips?
the first town/non-offical tournament i went to among friends, i was the try hard. i really wanted to win, and did. but i complained and bitched and moaned very annoyingly at every bad draw and im still embarrassed about it to this day haha. never again.
umm ok so im kinda new to magic i say kinda because i have a booster box , an duel deck ,and a planeswalker deck, and i know the jest of the game but there are still some terms i dont understand , such as resolve, mono decks tho i think i know what that is, and also im not good a making decks so dose anyone have any tips?
Louise Drake ok thank you louise i be sure to check them out
I hate it when people rage quit. It’s just a game. You made some valid points.
cool list, i just wouldn't include people who don't bring trade binder to the unprepared group.
What about the people who go on for 10 minutes after the game about how you would’ve lost next turn
i plan on becoming a judge for magic i really would like to try becoming that
I'm a tad bit out of practice so I'm partially #10 at times with taking too long to decide what to do on my turns
I have a friend that roars when he gets really mad if I start beating him, he just shouts "Oh god no! Why! What are you going to do next!"
Can we see some judge story videos?
