What you seem to miss is that this tournament is played in May. Most NHL'ers are still playing and are competing for the stanley cup. It's a fact that Canadians make up most of any NHL roster which means we have more quality and quantity players. The only way to know who is the better nation is at the olympics where the best of the best play for gold.
We didn't have some of our best players either...It's no excuse. Obviously Canada has a better team at the highest level (generally at any level) but USA hockey is growing and we're getting closer and closer. 2 silvers in the last 3 Olympics isn't that bad. Good luck in 2014 but we are putting together one of our best teams ever. I just wish they would get this NHL situation figured out.
I think we're already competing (OT in Vancouver?). Sure we don't have those kinds of players. Canada always bases their team around skilled superstars. But when they come together as a team they don't always seem to play at their top potential. The US picks their players tactically to play against the top dogs like Canada. You'll see a line like Brown-Backes-Callahan that will be very hard to do anything against. Canada will always be favored but I think the US plays better together as a team.
Look at Canada's roster in 2010 and then look at USA's. Canada was filled with superstars but USA actually beat them in the preliminaries and then went to OT in the Final. Yes Canada obviously has the better players but wouldn't you think they would be way above USA's level?
It's easy to get to the gold medal game? Only 2 countries in the world get there...I don't know if you're understanding me. I'm saying Canada is the better team for sure. Everyone knows that. It's just that USA is catching up and in 1 game anything is possible...In a 7 game series I'm pretty sure Canada would win every time.
and 10x more things to do; 10x more fun; 10x more sports (NFL, NBA, MLB, etc.); 10x more sun; Hollywood, New York, Miami (and other places my parents, and other Canadians, drive down from Montreal each summer summer) so, given the # of hockey players in the USA, 2 gold medals isn't bad. And, by the way, we lost to a üsa sucks" team, so what does that make the Canadian team this year-not including our loss at the Spengler Cup and U20 this year?! Canadian hockey is king, they're catching up.

I'm a Canadian and still got a chuckle out of that one...
Fantastic match and USA deserved victory.
Tavares is a beast
I'm cheering for Czechoslovakia! What year is it anyway? And where the heck did I leave my bong?
Top 3 powerhouses of hockey right now: Canada, Russia, USA.

It doesnt matter if they do 100 goals or 1. Victory is victory. The end.
you mean the 2 in 60 years in the olympics?
nice to see that USA won Canada!:)
What about Finland? :)

barely, canadians now make up 52% of the league. That is down from 90% in 1978. That number will continue to fall.
Yet it's Canada's #1 sport by far, and USA's 6th, maybe? LOL
You really seem to like the tree kronor huh? Nevertheless Finland is going to the finals ;]
They did what? Who's gonna beat USSR then?
Sweden won WCH 2013
