Thank you Xavier and Jelle 🙏 Absolutely enjoyed the both of you ❤ Your combined 35 years (? - I added 1 year for Jelles start in 86) of experience is highly appreciated. Sorry to hear about unpleasant comments. I guess we‘re all just humans. Some more polite than others. 😘 Water restriction might have been the key for my pine either 😅 And yes, it is a shame that it’s not allowed to bring plants out of the UK. Just to let you know that it’s not even possible to buy a Tony’s Bonsai Memorial Tree for me …. 😢 Anyway, looking forward to the 2nd part 👍 Enjoy your day 😊 Cheers 🙋♀️ Martina
Well, I don't think I have ever seen the two of you smile so much! I don't think I have ever seen Jelle smile at all. Next time he visits, you should give him a big boy chair. He looked tiny next to you at your work bench, very surprised when the two of you stood up. Looks like you guys had a very nice time, can't wait for part 2.
Great episode, Xavier. It's interesting to see you both together. I will patiently wait for the episode with Peter Chan. Thanks for sharing your visits.
These collaborations just put a smile on my face. Soo nice to see u guys getting together and joking it up. Cant wait for more. And xav those extra parts u add to ur videos are hysterical. And yea bio gold is great stuff but i feel they are for more trees towards the end of their development. But it has done well or me to get great ramification and short internodes on one of my maples .
This video was Awesome! It was amazing to see great tips from Jelle and your trip to Greenwood! Jelle is totally right though, sometimes Xavier you talk about not knowing much about bonsai but the techniques you do are expertly done! 😊 Looking forward to part 2!
We managed to film quite a few small segments for other projects we are doing as well. A busy 3 days of filming for sure...and so much to view and edit :)
Excellent, Jelle doesn't have the chance to edit this to make himself look more serious! This is reminding me of videos of a recent tabletop gaming convention a few weeks back, where suddenly every personality in the Dungeons & Dragons UA-cam genre was making cameos in each other's videos. It was a bit of a trip seeing them all together; it added a sort of third dimension to the experience, a bit of perspective of how we're all just people existing in this world together. It was nice.
I think you have summed that up perfectly. jelle and I have done quite a few videos together since we started and I was not disappointed when we finally met. We were both worried it could have gone really bad :)
Wow, that video was awesome! Can't wait for the next one. It's cool to see the fish blood and bone come out; it's one of my must haves along with bone meal during repots.
@XaviersBonsaiRetreat Please keep the box away from any dampness, as it will quickly become a solid brick. 😅 Although I can be quite unsociable, I would be happy to do an interview after having my morning coffee.
What an experience! You both seem to be having too much fun. Next question: Who gained more weight during this festive visit?? My heart does break when I hear about negative comments. I would never have thick enough skin to put myself through that. Thank you both for giving us so much!
I am glad you mentioned that question because it is something Jelle and I spoke about for some time on the first evening. I think it is easy to forget that often creators have full time jobs with their own 'full' email boxes to manage :)
The question is.. Are our audiences willing to sponsor that?! We did see a very nice Juniper we could work on together at greenwoods, but we ran out of cash.
If economics didn't play a part I have no doubt we would meet up a lot more often - he is a top bloke. We spent more time chatting about things NOT related to bonsai :)
Hi xav I can beat you all I started in the late 70s on and off due to work taking precedence at times, Great to see Jelle in your garden mate, and your visit to Greenwood’s, funny you homed in on the reduced stock, when I was there quite a few years ago, in real caste offs with no hope I found a very sad looking tree that had given up, there was no price on it or label as to what it was,I saw a future in it,Corin wasn’t there a guy I had not seen before was minding the nursery I don’t think he had any idea so I managed to offer him the price I thought the ceramic pot was worth £20.00, he agreed, the tree is a Lonicera Pileata the box leaved variety, it is now thriving, so there are bargains to be had, the nursery wasn’t like it is now a bit uninspired really, the benches were a miss match of trees. I will email a picture of the tree when I can, I think it took a while for Jelle to get used to your personality, he tends to be more serious minded than you, you got on well together once he settled. Time for lunch never mind breakfast. Look forward to the next one.
Truthfully JOe, we were laughing from the momemt I picked him up at heathrow. Our personalities just seemed to click. We played off the 'straight man' routine a little for the video. I know what you mean about Greenwoods though Corin gave me lots of good advice about my big oak.
It sounds as if I should be honored that Jelle answered expediently my first and so far only comment on his channel. He even told me how to pronounce his name. He is a likeable sort. Xavier, I am still puzzling over you. But . . . if you slave to respond to your comments, you should be all right.
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat From my perspective as a viewer it's very entertaining to see interaction between different Bonsai UA-camrs which "normally" are doing their thing on their own channel. I would love to see more crossovers.

Jelle reviews your tree in Part 2 (spoilers) :)
He's not rude, he's just direct. That's the classic Dutch answer 😁
Every culture is different. Some people just do not say what they mean ;)
That is a good translation my friend. He doesnt have a rude bone in his body - apart from when he demanded I feed him once a day :)
And others do not mean what they say :)

Great to see you there! Lots of fun, except for.. well.. It was a bit wet
I was glad you introduced yourself james - especially with that rain pouring down :)
Outstanding!!! What a Sherlock Holmesian observation about the 2 different needle lengths on the Japanese white pine. Keep up the good work.
I hadn't even noticed - I suppose that's what happens when you do a 4 year course in bonsai :)
Thank you for introducing me to Jellie will be watching his channel. Entertaining and can’t wait to see next part.

Thanks Adam - Jelle has been pushing me to stop with the 'dumb' routine. Humility has its place but I have perhaps been a little too hard on myself.
