Chris Beall, you are completely deluded to think that they've had more success without Ace and Peter. What evidence can you put forth to even remotely make sense of such a statement? Have they ever packed arenas and only played music from the 83-92 era? Never. The only relevant, lasting music they created were with the original 4. Kiss with Ace and Peter, rose to fame when they began, fell off dramatically when they left, only to sell out arenas again when they came back in '96 through 2001, touring the entire planet and breathing life back into Kiss after years of stagnation and irrelevance. Only bringing back Ace and Peter gave them this ability. Gene and Paul threw Tommy and Eric in A and P's makeup and have ridden it out on nostalgia since to a largely ignorant and unsuspecting public. They are partially a tribute act now to their former selves. Paul cannot sing anymore and Gene barely moves, there's no exciting "Demon" up there anymore, just an overweight, greedy, ego-maniac . Tommy has zero charisma and dresses and plays Ace's solo's note for note. (How's this not an actor playing the part of ACE?) If P and G had really wanted to keep some integrity, they'd put T and E in their own characters and carried on and seen where the chips were going to fall. But there's the catch, they knew it wouldn't work and they realized how fickle and ignorant the majority of the people in the audience are, or at least a majority of them, so they went forward with the "imposter, but not enough will even know" strategy. They have become a joke and it's terribly sad, so much as to consider it tragic. Yeah, Peter got kicked out of the band because of his substance abuse problems, but Ace left the band in 1981 of his own free will; not because he was forced out, but because he could no longer tolerate the awful direction the band was going after flops like 'Unmasked' and especially the disastrous 'Music From The Elder,' which was the result of Paul and Gene's self-indulgent pretentiousness. Paul and Gene did everything they could to convince Ace to stay because he was the most musically talented member of the band during their heyday in the 1970's and was the primary reason they had any street-cred among the hard rock/heavy metal community. After Ace Frehley left the group, KISS became nothing but a clone of the L.A. hair metal scene, copying the musical style of bands like Van Halen, Def Leppard, and Motley Crue, all of whom were far superior bands who outsold KISS tenfold in the 80's. KISS was no longer the unique pop-culture force they were in the 70's, they were little more than bandwagon-jumpers in a decade dominated by bands from Bon Jovi to Guns 'n Roses. And when the 80's ended, KISS saw their popularity waning once again, and decided to make the 'Revenge' album, which was nothing more than a copycat of the style of Metallica and Megadeth. If Paul and Gene hadn't reunited with Ace and Peter, their next album would've been a Grunge rip-off called 'Carnival Of Souls,' which would only have further shown Paul and Gene's decline in originality. Reuniting with Ace and Peter was the best thing Paul and Gene could've done for themselves in the 90's, because KISS was pretty much a dead band at that point. I'm not saying that Ace and Peter didn't make their own mistakes, but at least they own up to them.
