I was born in '99, my dad use to play this when I was 4 everyday on my car ride to School. I'm 22 now and Heavy metal is running through my veins because of St. Anger. Thanks Metallica
My preferred style of drumming of him honestly. Like, i appreciate his drumming in the 80s album and all,but I think he doesnt have much groove. In this, its entirely different. Its just a shame the snare sounds like ass inthe album version. Some bands can have that snare sound and make it work(helmet, for example).
This album had such a character to it. Especially if one sees the documentary. I can feel what the band was going through and the meaning of the lyrics. Plus the music has an anger to it, but at the same time a relief. Hard to explain.
@@MrMetalclay yeah man, nowdays lars just make simple ass beats, with a double bass in some "climax" parts, st anger has most of lars creative drumming (with "...and justice for all" surpassing it), mainly because the songs from st anger depend on the drums to be somewhat interesting.
This album still resonates with me. I was battling a lot in my life and this album felt like a soundtrack, especially this song. Lost a business I loved because of a business partner embezzling and not just him but my wife as well. Destroyed me at the time. I fought hard to get custody of my kids. Which I did. All while being destroyed business wise. And tore to shreds over it. I kept saying was shot me again, I ain't dead yet.
If you don't like St. Anger album thats okay. BUT just keep in mind, if you watch the movie Some Kind of Monster, they went into record this album with the intention of making it sound like a dirty, grity garage band, "except the band is Metallica." They just never expected all the drama and personal strife to occur in the process!!!
The drama and stuff happened during the recording, its what makes this albulm to be so real for people that is in some kind of situation close to that room there, and it's what's makes people like me feel them so close to our lives. It's a hell of an álbum, and it's ours. A Lifetime gratefull to Metallica and all of you who make it hapend!!!
People don’t realise how much of a banger this album is 21 years later… I literally listened to the entire album the other day and I was banging my head like crazy.
I don't feel bad about the hate it got because it makes me enjoy the album all that much more. Why? Because unlike the brainwashed idjits that continue to give the band shit for NOT staying young, doing the same dumb shit they used to do and creating the same music on a repetitive basis so it would leave a bad aftertaste in everyone's mouths today, I believe in growth AND maturity. I mean, you can't be over 50 and still acting like a child while expecting to stay relevant in pop culture period.
I have been a fan since childhood and I love St. Anger. For being a lesser received album it still has at least 4 BANGERS on it. I love the raw unpolished sound. Bob Rock on bass. Bob Rock did a lot to make Metallica so amazing. He produced Black Album, Load, Reload, Garage Inc, and this. That is amazing.
In no way do I agree to what some people say about the snare on this album! I love it! Solidifies the entire emphasis on this album being one of lars' most technical and skillful successes on the drums. I would rank St. Anger at number two of their albums. I would go with ...And Justice for All as their best. But I do have to say I constantly tune my snare up and turn off the snares to achieve this sound when I am just messin around. Long live METALLICA!
Bullshit. There is nothing close to technical drumming on this album, dipshit. ...and Justice for all was his most technical if you could even say there is such a thing, which you can't since there is nothing technical about instruments.
I watched the rehearsal video before I listened to the album .. I thing that's why its one of my favorite albums .. lol every time I listen to this song I swear I hear Lars scream in the beginning
Exactly the same with me,,, i was like oooooh free dvd all the songs heeeeyyyyy put my headphones into the TV and watched..... i never understood the hate it was getting and then I heard the album versions and I telling my pals play the dvd of the songs.. but some pal's still hadn't upgraded to DVD players yet 😑😑
The audio is so good, so raw and natural sounding. I wish Albums in general would sound more of a live vibe instead of being overly polished in the studio.
I never write here. But. What you see here is a real. damn. band. just. rocking the f*** out of the music they wrote. With a new bassplayer who's killing it. New... damn I must be getting old. This came from 2009. Time moves fast. Not as fast as Ulrich. I know most of you here all agree with me. But if you dont: Give it some time. And you'll hear it. Cheers. Now Shoot Me.
This song reminds of Incredible Hulk. Cause when I closed my eyes and visualized one of the radical heroes. Plus the phrase that goes “Don’t get me angry, you won’t like me I am angry!” And I so did it! That was beyond motivating.
Well said Metfan91bootlegs and Micku91!! I am an avid Metallica obsessor and I agree, if you are a true Metallica fan you love it all! This song and album ROCKS!
Surprisingly I see so many love comments about this amazing song and the st Anger album... I have a Metallica fan page and all the time all I get, is a bunch of dumb, brainless, boring hate speech about st Anger and the fun part is they all claim they are die hard fan of Metallica.. poor band! What stuff they had to put up with in this journey!
St Anger is the best Metallica album in the same way that In Utero was the best Nirvana album. Its low-fi and raw. It captures the real emotion of the band at the time. Am sure anyone born in the 70s and raged in the 90s can relate❤
I love this album and wish more people liked it too. So underrated. The only problem I have with this album is Lars' snare drum, its just to loud and high, i think if they had turn his snare down even 25% the album would be so much better. They made the no solo thing work with all the heavy and catchy fun guitar rifts. If you are a guitarist like me, play Some Kind of Monster or Frantic and tell me you didnt have fun. Are they simple and repeat over and over? Yes but they make it fun.
For all the 2000's stuff, I can not decide which album is better, st anger, death magnetic, or hardwired to self destruct. They are all really great and have a different sound.
i feel like a lot of people can't get beyond the production quality or snare enough to actually hear what lars is playing. might actually be his best album

i got chills reading this

Truer words have never been spoken

for real, it sounds kinda cool ngl
@@dingletun I hated it for a while but then i got used to it
And i love you
It was a VERY innovative album. Honestly, it's one of the reasons why metallica is still Alive and KICKIN'!
if st anger was produced and sounded like THIS on the album, it would be my favorite metallica album. so fucking brutal and heavy
i am a die hard fan since 85, and no matter what the so called fans said... st anger is one of the most brilliant albums ever!!
Agreed!
definitely one of if not the most important album. this album HAD to happen.
And the album has some of Metallica’s heaviest stuff
Love the rythems & lyrics as well
Very underated album
Yes !!!!
Lars's scream at 0:50
Sipke Koopman pure anger
And a lil bit o coke too \m/

best part of the video

Don't get all the hate for this album, I love it. It's badass.
EXACTLY

I love it too. It’s like punk/metal! That’s my favorite song. My own personal national fucking anthem! 🤘🏼
I think it brings the anger in them out
Thats what there really afraid of
Only this song
@@Scatterbrain70 nah
all the songs of st. anger contains most complex drumming by lars ulrich....... love u metallica...
GARVIT BHOMIA jajaja have you ever listen and justice ?
Theres a difference between playing fast and complex
Not necessarily complex, but unique. Lars is mostly complex when he throws in random hits and fills, it makes all of the 7minute + songs shine.

Yet still rated the worst album. I don't know..
Trujillo looks like a fun guy
metallica lyrics are underrated.
They need to play this live
They need to practice, so much.. lars can't do it correctly..

Great song. The reason I like it is that its got loads of breaks in the song, rather than constant hammering.
Such a great song. Wish they would play it live.
