Congrats Tracy on the 2023 CMA Song of the Year for “Fast Car”! 35 years later your music still moves us. I’m glad a new generation and genre is appreciating this beautiful piece of art.
Country music today has no originality, from the early days of Jimmie Rodgers who stole black artists music & played it without paying a cent to these pioneers of all the music we listen to today.
Was about to say the same after reading / seeing the article earlier at work

35 years on and still one of the greatest songs ever written
@Bryan Harrison If you only knew and understood:
Wordily pleasures for the ears and for the eyes: music, movies, sport. That kind of entertainment is given by lucifer to mankind, to keep them busy doing and knowing nothing, When human dies, he or she is surprised that he or she keeps existing. Yet the only reason for it is, they had their lifetime on earth catching delusions and illusions. Never loved the truth, never cared for it and as some used to say: 1st comes laughter, then turning of the head, then closing of the ears, freezing of the heart, then life in struggle and then regrets and cries. The last 2 shall be there forever. = the life of a ignorant fools. Creating “perfect” offspring who`s genetic DNA is mixed: human + animal + angel + inverting every soul + posses them with evil spirits = perfect spell casting, look at the public, they all sing and dance along not sensing reality. The tares and the wheat - a story in the bible. 2 different offspring, growing together, shoulder next to shoulder.
The "rituals" haven`t stopped happening, these got renamed to fit the timelines: in our days, the rituals are:
music concerts
showing off the masonic hand sighs and symbols
becoming "trans"
still needed blood sacrificing (singers, actors, in need of sacrificing their loved ones and friends, later being the needed sacrifice themselves, these are knows an “accidental overdoses”).

@@theharshtruthoutthere How about fuck off with the self righteous essays. God also has music, or are your hymns, organs and pianos also Satan's work?
Don't you all congregate in groups and sing in concert? So then the Christian faith is also Satanic?
Fucking cretins of religion who think they can condemn others when they're simply mortal fools with no idea about the greater dimensional beings who exist around us.
If your God is so Good and almighty, then we would not suffer. He is malevolent and evil in his very nature by allowing humanity to suffer. Even with faith in him, you still suffer, but simply persuade yourself it has reason, it doesn't. Your God has left you.
The fact you follow a religion made by man is hilarious. Three books that ruined humanity, all written by drunkards and lunatics.

This song just reminds me how life isn't always what you planned..Sometimes dreams die, and people change. We don't always get what we want out of life, no matter how hard we try. Sometimes all we can do is acknowledge that and try our best to move on and make due with what we have. This song is timeless, and no wonder so many people can relate to it. This sounds exactly like something that came out of the 80s. Modern music is a lazy copy of the 80s.
My God, thirty years later the power of this song is staggering and still cuts like a knife.
32 years later you mean her voice is amazing 🎶
@@Isaac-zc3mm No, the entire song . . . lyrics, voice, instrumentation.
Third Man I agree and it’s better than the remake version
Crying then,and crying now😭🌄🌈💕💕💕💕🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🌅🌍
Thats called grace - and mercy and it is and always be TIMELESS !!
Timeless & so relatable.
I laughed when I was kid, now I'm 46, and I can't make it through without crying. Haunting and beautiful
If I may ask, why did you laugh as a kid? I get that kids can misinterpreted but I’m just curious. Hope you’re doing okay now though.
I'm very happy for you not too many people can get over and be like you be happy. I love
So true. I use to think it was funny “fast car” as an adult. Wow. Big difference
The more new songs come out the more I listen to old music
That is just part of getting older.
Here's your like because I feel the same way.
Because they are the best👍
mr dashin agreed - they wrote songs to tell a story and make people feel and not just repeat the same verse over.
@@leeoffshore9859 hahahahah💯 true x
When exactly when Tracy be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? She deserves and has certainly earned the spot. Truly one of the best singer/songwriters of all time. Thank you Tracy for your music. Thank you for sharing your gift and your presence.
couldn’t agree more
Tragically most people don't know who she is. And yes I do mean tragedy.
Very well said.😊
Agreed
I think that Tracy doesn't care about Hall of fame, or even success. She just want to share her music with the world, and this is why we love her so much :)
One of the greatest but most heartbreaking songs ever. A picture of real life. Love this so much 2024
tracy doesn’t get the recognition for just how talented she is
She does. Multi awards winner, including 4 grammies
Like Nzarama said, she doesn't get as much attention as she once she did, but she was huge for her time.
He or she. Im confused
@@mr.cannedble9724 I thought they were non binary *she he they* I just say they idk
You are 100% correct but you know what’s REALLY beautiful? She doesn’t care.
Can you hear that crowd? They are literally stunned during the whole performance. No cameras, no idiots shouting just listening.
KnowlesKnows bruh no cameras besides the one we're watching this thru lmao
@@PartyLikeRobots you do understand they meant people being on their phones?
Steven Russell ever heard of sarcasm?
Lord Byron what you said is really ignorant. if tracy chapman had this talent while also wearing skimpy clothes she wouldn't be less of an artist. black women, and all women should be allowed to express their art in their own way. tracy chapman's style was hers. as is the style of all the other black female artists you generalized. open up your fucking mind you rock of a person
Steven Russell probably largely do to the zero cell phones in existence in 1988
Easily one of the top 10 American songs ever created.
Should be #1
One of the best African American songs for sure.
yes, definitely
@@chiyenyumba7135 Correction. One of the best *American songs for sure.
@@djwestbrook36 lol African American still
Simple guitar & a beautiful woman singing. That is what talent is! No outrageous costumes, dancing or auto tune. This song is so relatable.
Less is more.
A guitar and a beautiful voice and an equally beautiful lyrics.
Pure talent.
Amen brother
My wife and I seldom agree about music. We were in the car about a minute from home when this song began. I pulled into the driveway and neither of us got out, or said anything. We just listened. When it was over I had teared up and said, "That's one of the greatest songs ever written." I looked at her and she also had tears in her eyes and she said, "I agree."
Agree
I agree
This song kills me. I've been through this in life and then I worked myself to success and then hit rock bottom. Worked myself up again ......71 and still wondering what's next . She is brilliant right here !!!
Blessings brother on your journey 🙏🏿
Stay strong
I myself just keep on driving Just like the song says ! Don’t you ever give up on this life …You just keep on driving!!
If only for a fast car..
When the s**t hits tht fan. You'll find out who you're family and friends are
Thousands of people at that concert captivated by one voice and one guitar
All we’ve ever wanted from music was the human story in its most beautiful form. Tracy is music.
Beautiful comment ❤️
Yes. Yes. Yes. Thank you for sharing that.
Reminds people of fast cars and slow times lol
Lauren Tindley All these years of listening to this song and you summed it up perfectly

Listening Dec 4th, 2020. 32 years hits different
Same my friend. 2020 has been hell and this song has been the saving grace of my 2020
Never got it. Maybe too young when it came out. But now i do. Listened a lot the past two weeks. Sometimes you grow into songs. I got blessed with this. Have a good bump in the road my friend. Life is funny 😏

My parents forced me to learn English... I never liked it so to make it less tedious I started translating song. This song was one of them and I remember feeling like I was reading a book... I wanted to know how the story was gonna finished. I'm so glad I was pushed to learn this language. Tracey Chapman and Bob Marley taught me music was more than just melody.
I'm sorry to hear your didn't like the English language. What is your first language?
Me too I really didn’t like learning English but all the songs influenced me to :)
Then you might Imagine by John Lennon, Let it Be by the Beatles, Blowing in the Wind by Bob Dylan, in truth you can't go wrong with most songs from before 2000
@@BrideofPFunk It's Spanish... but I learn it before internet was around so I used to think it was boring a language I couldn't practice.... Now I used it 90% of the time :)
@@ThePalatineHill so true... more than music they were telling you stories... My surprise when I found out Hotel California had such spooky end...

If you're listening to Tracy just a few hours into 2022, I want to say that we should all live under one big roof and play our favorite songs for a lifetime.

I grew up in Allston, MA and walked to Harvard station to take the train to school and she would be playing in the station for change. Never forget how she was looked over. One of my heroes. 🙏
Damn.
Same here. I saw Tracy a few times playing outside in the pit area. She was so memorizing.
Wow, that must have been amazing
You are very lucky
She stopped music to go to Harvard. She just wanted to p l ay music
This song is still a masterpiece in 2022 and Tracy is a wonderful vocalist.
Yessss
Yep
A classic, never aged (unlike me!)
True
Here for it
I’m 44 Irish, grew up n this , been an integral part of my whole life, I’ve traveled lived, loved and lost ..and this song just gets ..deeper with age ☘️🥊🇮🇪😢😢

Not Irish but I got love for the good hearted Celtics 😉
im an irish/dutch ginger man and this song still hits hard. just turned 42.
I'm 58 and had my first baby in 1988. This song resonated then and it still does. Except now it makes me cry. My son is 36. 😂
Good.
Go

I haven't heard this song for about 20 years. Now as a grown-ass man I'm sitting here crying my eyes out after hearing the fcking *first* line again in all this time.
im sure there's the girl
Adoro este cantor
same, except the man part. lol
Yeeeeep. Grown arse man crying his eyes out here too. It's just one of those songs. It fucken gets you.

I can't believe this was 34 years ago. Feels so "today." Tracy is a legend.
True
Legitimate creative works like this will always have that today feel. True artistry is timeless
well said.
Agreed!
This reminds me of when I was homeless 10 years ago alone in debt. I met my husband, and he looked at me with the most sincere heart and said "l want us to start from zero." It was at that moment that I knew God had sent him so I wouldn't walk alone in this world.
Best to you and your partner .
beautiful story
Wonderful story. Wishing you nothing but happiness. ❤️
Amen ❤
I'm 59 years young..this has been my favorite since 1987.
59? You still have a easy 50 more to go.
@@derynbergeron9162 Human cells stop growing at 25. 75 years is like dried meat.
@@asanteyadakavenz if human cells stopped growing at 25 we would die within a week, no offense but that's not true, mitosis occurs throughout our whole life our cells are constantly replaced, that's how we grow older, we older become more fragile because our Efficiency and ability to undergo mitosis reduces as we age.
@@johnrichardson6596 you are bringing your opinion into science. Human cell growth stops around age 25. This is an established fact. What you are saying is your opinion. Everyone has an opinion.
@@asanteyadakavenzI don't wish to argue but what I'm saying definitely isn't an opinion. I'm studying biology as one of my a levels at college so believe me I can tell between fact and statement. I'm not saying this to brag btw. I think you are thinking our cells stop growing at 25 because we don't get taller etc.... But our cells are all still replaced and cell growth definitely does occur
This song hits different in the second half of your life...
It sure does honey
It sure does Rachel.
💘🥺
Exactly!!
Well put.
The change in key in this version I think actually makes this song even prettier. That guitar just sings.
meme dot_du_skrattar_du_förlorar I think the key is actually different here, I learned this song with the capo on the second fret, cuz apparently that’s what it is on the studio version. But here she has it on the third fret. That makes it a different key.
i dont make videos but i make p l a y l i s t s go check out the version from Wembley earlier that year. It’s clearly a half step lower, and that one was live too (eye roll)
I agree. It seems to match her voice even better.
First time I heard this song, specifically this version, I cried for like 4 hours. This is so special.
