Dude! Thank you for sharing this. This has already made me feel so much better. I’ll use this in every warmup. This needs to be the #1 exercise for beginners.
I play table tennis and have been starting to get some serious wrist and forearm sharp pains. After doing your wrist warm-up routine every morning and right before practice, and adding the stretches from this video into that, I have noticed that the pains are gone. Not sure if its the stretching or the injuries healing, but I would like to thank you for the videos. Great stuff. Subscribed.
@@wernervonhurtsaug if you play at a high level the use of the wrist is very important in creating spin. When doing so the motion is somewhat vigorous and can put strain on the wrist
Ok this is bizarre. I have played table tennis and tennis competitively and I do not understand how ping pong can cause wrist issues. I am sorry that’s the case. Don’t try playing tennis!
Same thing happened to me. Competitive table tennis is hard for the wrist. Never had a wrist problem after 30 years of tennis. Two weeks after returning to competitive tennis table and I got this tendinitis Hope these exercises can help me!
Thanks, got some relief right away. Laid off a month, first time wrist injury, played with the Babalot wrist support, helped but aggravated again. Hope this resolves soon, love playing tennis!
Thanks for this Richard! never seen these exercises... tried them during the lesson, and automatically have gained some mobility, usually 2 hours of tennis can have me off the court for a week due to pain, but right away i have experience relief... Hope to do this a few times a day, and continue to see improvement. Great lesson!
I tried this before playing yesterday. My wrist actually felt better as the session went on. Your focus on the nerve pathways all the way up to the brain is golden!
Happy to hear they helped. If you haven't already watched it I've got another video about wrist mobility. The nerve and mobility drills go really well together.
Great video and thank you! Can I pick your brain about best rackets for someone with ulnar sided wrist pain? This is a chronic issue, so just looking for a way to play better with more control but also longer without pain.
Thank you for this video. I am familiar with stretching, muscle releasing and mobility exercises but I have never seen anything like this. I play tennis, guitar, and I am furniture repair tech so I use my hands and wrists a lot. I have had wrist pains for years. Hopefully these movements will help. Thanks!
Thank you very much . will try it for sure , I am suffeing for 4 months from wrist pain when i serve or smash , Groundstrokes no pain at all , just serve and smash...
fantastic video. im subbing just because of this one video, it really helped lower wrist pain on my left hand near the radial from my two handed backhand
Before becoming a full time tennis hacker i specialized in using applied neuro for chronic pain rehab. So although every one is different and you can’t make guarantees when it comes to health, i’ve seen enough people with arthritis get out of pain, i tend to believe there is a solution for most people. What are you currently trying to address it?
thank you so much for this! i had a wrist injury around the same time you released this video and it's never really been the same since - it's made it difficult for me to enjoy tennis now because everytime i feel a little ache in my wrist i worry about the injury coming back.
@@TennisHacker hey! sorry i forgot to reply, the wrist exercises were very helpful because i could do it anytime - at home, on public transport, etc. so since my previous comment, i'm more or less back to 100% (was at 80%ish). but just to be safe since i'm not getting any younger, i wear a wrist widget permanently as a precaution to prevent any awkward hits that might hurt my wrist again. www.wristwidget.com/
Okay I’m going to try this to see if it helps! My wrist usually hurts for a few days after I play racquetball ..it’s been almost a week and it hurts. It only hurts when I bend my hand forward for any reason. Wish I could fix it !!! 😭🙏
After ramping up my serve speed with pronation (in VR tennis with racket adapter of all places) I got a lot of wrist pain at the thumb area which I believed to be at the sheath as the tendons went through it. It would tighten up very painfully every night and trigger pain like a jolt if i opened up my hand during sleep. I did ultrasound on it and various exercises and nothing worked for 4 months until i got a cortisone injection in the wrist thumb sheath area. he could see some fluid in the area with an ultrasound via his tablet as he did the injection.
I have started playing tennis a little while ago. I try to play 3-4 times a week. My wrist hurts. I will try these exercises. It will hopefully fix the issue. Thanks for the video.
These can be very helpful and you also want to make sure your wrists are strong enough to handle the stresses of tennis. This can take time to build up and often when people start playing go do too much too soon, relative to what the body can handle.
@@TennisHacker And what can one do to make sure that the wrist is strong enough to handle the stresses of tennis? Whcih execises can help to build up strenght in the wrist? Is it possible to strenghthen the wrist, there are no muscles at the TFCC area .
Not specifically, but these nerve drills can be very helpful. I also find that strengthening the shoulder external rotators and be helpful. ua-cam.com/video/4VG01m6VyaY/v-deo.html
what kind of pain would it be if I have a two handed backhand, but have left wrist pain when hitting 2hbhs i'm a college level player, and have played for 20 years, never had wrist pain like this. did some of the exercises, helped a little bit but still have pain. just curious what type u think it is. thx for the videos
Pain is complicated, so it would be impossible for me to give an opinion without a thorough assessment. If you are still struggling and want to chat, shoot me an email - richard@tennishacker.net
I am feeling pain especially when hitting my right handed forehand. Pain feels like an electrical shock nerve pain right in the middle of the inner elbow. When i straighten my arm and try to pronate, the shock is unbearable. Few months ago i had pain in the same area but it was only triggered when i supinated. I was able to fix it with physical therapy , icing, compression and using theraband. Any ideas how i can find out if this is bicep tendonitis or pronator teres?
Pain is complicated so there can be lots of potential causes. Start with the ulnar nerve mobilization and see how your body responds. Also make sure your upper spine and neck is moving well because that's where the nerve exists.
Any suggestions for those folks who have limited range of motion in wrist extension plane. How much wrist layback is necessary to hit a solid forehand. Many coaches say 90degrees extension is needed.
This drill should help with wrist extension, but there can be many other things that limit it. To improve your range you generally have to strengthen it at the extreme range. But at the end of the day, you've got what you've got. My extension is way less than 90 degrees and I can hit with heavy spin and power. So if you get the rest of the mechanics down I'm sure you'll be fine.
Awesome video, I'm going to add it to my nerve stretches. I'm currently having pain which seems like cmc joint issue but now I think it's more of a stuck nerve. I'm subscribing to your channel.
I'm glad you found the video helpful. Pain is obviously a complex subject. But I tend to think in the following order - joint mobility, sensation in local area, nerve mobility, neck mobility, then start looking further up.
@@TennisHacker thanks. I’ve actually adjusted my grip and technique a bit and have actually rid 90% of the pain. I realized I was overusing my left wrist but since my right is stronger, I let it dominate but not to the extent where I injure myself. I also have just been strengthening my wrist in general

Brilliant - What if the cause of pain is arthritis of the wrist? Is there any hope for a solution, or just live with the pain (or change sports)?
