Yo. I made the decision to include the subtitles on this one, since it's tough to hear Ashley on the laptop at points. Thought I'd keep it consistent and include them on the animated segment too. Hope you enjoy the video
This was the example I gave my brother of how the game circumstances translated into the show, and I think it was the thing that got him curious enough to check it out.
@@IceMetalPunk Yeah, once you add personal character choices and flavor, there's a lot of overlap between the classes in terms of the kinds of characters you can make. Like how in Campaign 3, [SPOILER FOR EP. 11] Chetney seems like a rogue for all intents and purposes, but he's actually a Blood Hunter.
It was always a bummer having Ashley away during Blindspot's run, but the story potential it gave when she was able to Skype in or attend in person was great. Astral Projection Pike was a legendary moment, and how it influenced Yasha's story in C2 was also great improv and collaborative storytelling from Matt and Ashley. Still, 1000% better having her around full time
Yeah, Fearn seems like her strongest character so far, in terms of concept and RP etc Her and Marisha both came in swinging for season 3 actually, big improvement over the last 2 campaigns.
I'm currently playing a necromantic Death Domain cleric, and our last session just got us to level 5. If you don't know... that's when he gets to learn Animate Dead 😁 The session ended with my guy being like, "So, everyone, I had a chat with Kuliak [my goddess] on the trip home, and I'd like to introduce you to a new friend. Everyone say hi to Sal." *Casts Animate Dead on a pile of bones* I can't wait for Sal the Skeleton to help us through the dungeon next session 😀
@@WiseSageBum Played a Tempest Cleric in a Ravnica campaign. Divine bringer of justice in service to Warleader Aurelia. At level 2 he killed two bears in one Thunderwave using Channel Divinity: Destructive Wrath. I may never go back to Life Cleric again :D

after not watching any of campaign 1 these are so helpful when i see something and go "did that really happen in game". Also loving the direction this show is taking the scenes they feel more fluid
Yeah, it also happen to me in the scene where Scanlan just clears an entire mansion by himself. I was like: "Well there's no way that could've actually happen in the game". But little did I know that it fucking did.
@@Br-kc2jy Not only that but he did way better in the original. They had to thrash Scanlan around a little bit more in the animated series to ramp up the tension. Bards are just THAT GOOD.
Tears! Literal tears. So many people shit on the animated because it's not identical to the show or its not what "they pictured in their head" but this was one of my favorite moments from VM and I love the way the show did it! Top 3 moment for me so far. Probably the #1 non-grog moment
It is the "Legend" of Vox Machina, and legends usually get warped and twisted the longer its around. In the netflix show "The Witcher", Jaskier (the bard) goes on a quest with Geralt (Witcher). Long story short, by the end, the bard exaggerates the story to make his song sound better. Any difference to the source material can be chalked up to the story being retold in a bar and the teller messed up some details and someone else corrects them or something along those lines. That's how I justify a certain missing Storming from the show. He was long dead by the end of the campaign and wasn't there for the whole Veccnapocalypse so most wouldn't know or remember him aside from the gang and friends. I can guess the real reason why he wasn't included but what can you do...
FYI, it's entirely possible to love and enjoy the show and never heard anyone complaining about it. This is the first I'm hearing about it and I'm going to promptly forget!
I haven’t watched the campaign yet specifically because I knew the animated show was coming out and I guess I prefer to be spoiled the other way around lol, but I’m glad you made this specific video because besides being blown away with how awesome this moment was in the cartoon, all I could think of was “holy crap, how did this possibly unfold on the table?” And now I know!
Animated Pike became the Agent of the Everlight, then told her blessed friends at Whitestone "Now go crush some blanking heads!" And they fired on all cylinders live.
These videos are beyond brilliant. You get the real sense of every little choice from the animation and how it's all just one big refference to their games. The skelleton dropping its jaw just as Laura said she did. The fact that Pike was separate from the group because Ashley is just unable to join in due to her work and how she skyped in for the game and Matt had to find a way to squeeze her into the narrative. It's all just... Oh the feels.
This moment in the LoVM had me cheering out loud with a tear in my eye. So awesome! With the colors in the sky it was easy to guess it had something to do with Pike, but it was still awesome!
I have watched this so many times and seen lots of reactions to this scene. It's what us critters do, we delight in the joy that others have seeing something we love for the first time. With all the reactions I have seen, I have never heard anyone describe this scene in the way I personally thought it was meant to honor. Pike is Thor. The scene in Infinity War in Wakanda when Thor arrives. Pike coming in here is so very much like that and even gave me the same excitement and thrills. Clerics are very under-appreciated in D&D for anything besides "the healer". Pike is arguably the most powerful one in the group. She did win the battle royale that she was in afterall.
100%. Even watching back the original segment from them at the table, it gives me real Ragnarok Thor vibes as Pike jumps off the wall, glowing with divine energy and absolutely decimating all those mook skeletons that would've been a pain to deal with. I think the Amazon show captures that feeling amazingly, just Pike being able to be the MONSTAH of the group like she's always been.
Pike going “Strike with the divine virtue of the Everlight” in an ethereal voice, only to immediately follow it up with “Now go crush some FUKKING HEADS!” just… Ugh, so great. Still one of my favorite Exandria characters, period.
I love how Sam is 100% simping for Pike, always. And Ashley's absolute delight at being able to show up and help! Her taking a victory lap when she got the hdywds? LEGENDARY. I want to cry, this is just so great 😍😭😍
This was one of my absolute favorite moments in the series. I had no idea this existed when I watched the show so finding out all the cool stories behind it is so fun!
I love how the show changes it up just the smallest bit to make it so much cooler while still keeping the heart of what actually happened. I feel like the skeleton's jaw dropping was done in part because of what Sam said and Pike blessing everyone's weapons was a great bit of storytelling.
I never watched campaign 1 and start and currently still watching Campaign 2. I watched the TV Show and my mind was blown how Pike flew in and caused that much awesome chaos. Now seeing the actual session, whilst great on it's own and looks like an amazing session, the TV show was so much more epic. I wish we could turn D&D into something like that and keep it balanced in a way the show did. Fab work all around, love it all!
So happy someone else picked this up, before even considering that they were pulling from Thor with the lighting riding and mace return to hand, I noticed Lilith's entry. "Sup" It's in Borderlands 2 as well
I never seen Critical Role before the Animated. I am now enjoying them. But when Pike threw that Mace, I thought of Thor throwing Stormbreaker in Infinity War and said out loud: "You're all screwed now..."

I love that Pike's fighting style is basically Captain America if he was super focused on the "In God We Trust" part of the dollar bill.
