    Thank you so much for making this video. A quote from a fridge repair shop in town was $450 to completely replace the whole ice maker unit, based only on the F24 fault code without so much as touching the unit. I pulled the freezer door off today and sure enough, the wire to the thermistor had been split. 30 cents and a butt splice later, and we are back in business.

    We removed all food, disconnected from electricity supply. Then set hair dryer on low heat, held it so it was moving back/forth over ice making part for 20-30 mins. This defrosted mechanism & he started working when plugged back in.

    I had a similar problem that you helped fix, too. There are two plastic levers: one (that you taped up) detects the tray, and the other detects whether the ice bucket is full. This latter lever was frozen up after winter on our unit, meaning that the fridge thought the ice dispenser was always full. A few minutes with a hair dryer quickly sorted things out, and I was able to test it in action using your video. Thanks!

    Thanks for this video. It was a great help and cost me a fortune in callout fees. I cant believe a fridge can be crippled by a tiny wire.

    Keven19875. Thanks mate. I had exactly the same problem, wire broken off about 25mm from the sensor, hidden behind the bracket. Fixed it like you said but I have double heat shrink wrapped the repair to stiffen it up ab bit. This is a design flaw from FP, they should have known that repetitive bending will cause a fatigue failure especially under sub-zero temperatures.

      Once you have removed the side panel, you can remove the ice maker unit by pulling firmly but carefully downward. It is held in place by two plastic compression lugs which pop out when you pull the unit down. When you look up at the unit from below you can see the lug positions as two holes in the upper surface. Once unclipped, be careful as the wires are not long enough to allow the unit to rest on the bottom of the freezer. When you refit the unit take care not to trap any of the wires.

    • @micturate1
      @micturate1 9 років тому

      Mike Cooke I assume you are talking about removing the side panel (the video shows it being pulled out at 0:30). There are no screws to remove, it just slides out as shown. It may be very stiff to start with - it took me some effort to get my fingers into the vertical gap at the back to force the panel forwards.

    • @brendakelly8967
      @brendakelly8967 8 років тому

      I too initially had a lot of trouble removing the side panel. I eventually used a stiff hooked wire to gain the initial leverage to make room for my fingers. Once I could get my fingers in it was just a matter of clearing the lug at the back and then it slid out. My unit had a square headed screw attaching the ice maker to the ceiling of the freezer.

    • @mrcurlywhirly1671
      @mrcurlywhirly1671 2 роки тому +1

      This is obviously a delayed response... Anybody reading this, with that LCD issue in 2021, check the wiring harness for mechanical loosening of connectors. On our fridge, a french door RF610, the wiring harness runs up to through the right hand upper hinge, then through the body of the fridge - that is quite common routing. They are the LCD comms connectors, and each time you open and close the refrigerator these wires will move a little. Check by removing the hinge cover, if your LCD is not displaying anything then check visually for bad connections in this connector block.

    I'm very disappointed in my Fisher Paykel fridge. After less than one year, the door broke, which they fixed at no charge but the year later the other door broke...a small piece under the door. This fridge is only used 6 months of the year. And now for 2 years I can't get ice and water just oozes out. I'm very disappointed and will NOT recommend the fridge. Now I have the two drawer washer which I just love. My cheap 800.00 fridge in Florida gives me a full bin of ice in less than a day and nice big pieces of ice not the small stuff you get with FP. If I could afford it I would get rid of this fridge in a minute. Shame on Fisher Paykel to charge over 3 grand for a fridge that has so many problems...Never again...

      On my version of this fridge, I had to pull on the topmost tab (a "squarish" post that projects from the panel) at the end of the panel closest to the back wall to get it to release. I used pliers and gently pulled the tab outwards (not wanting to scratch or break it) while also pulling the panel towards the front of the fridge. It's not too difficult to do both at the same time and once the panel starts moving you can release the tab. (I figured this out by finding a picture of the back of the panel posted by a seller of replacement parts.)

      There are two tabs at the top under the rim on either side of the water dispenser you push those up and the unit should pull outwards. I replaced the whole electronic board a while back and it was simple. But getting that stainless steel part to pull forward was a little tricky.

    I've got an update! Several years after using this excellent video to replace the temp sensor, the freezer flooded.
    What I think happened is that the sensor was somehow pulled out of its holder under the ice tray. It fell down into the freezer where it was sending back false messages that the water had frozen so the ice maker would then rotate tipping water into the ice container. This continued until the container overflowed and water started leaking out of the freezer and across the kitchen floor!
    So from now on I'll be turning off the water supply to the fridge when we go away on holiday.

    I paid $80 to have a tech come and fix the problem. They never said what it was and it broke again a month later. They would not repair again for free. I've been using ice cube trays for years now and finally decided there might be some kind person who posted something about this. You're a genius! Thank you :). My model is slightly different but sure enough, just pulled the ice bucket, untucked the wire and yup... broken. Will repair today. Bad design though. It seems like it must easily break. I might try and give it some extra support since mine doesn't seem to have a piece holding the wire up, only the tension of being tucked in. I hope this info may help someone else. Thanks again for posting this. Happy New Year to you!

    Kevin not sure if you still follow this stuff, but this "sensor" does it also provide heat to help ice release from the tray ? We have the newer model to the one shown and currently the tray fills with water ...the tray rotates fine - but the ice wont release - it then returns to the upright position overfills with water and then that freezes ....I end up with a solid block of ice in the ice bucket. I was thinking about trying this repair but in my case I can definitely force empty the tray suggesting the wire is intact...any ideas?

I had fixed the wire, but it had broken again and I didnt realize. I was hoping I could just manually force a cycle just before I needed ice, but this cannot be done with the wire broken.

    • @patricecolas8356
      @patricecolas8356 8 років тому

      +mark dory Remove the one back screw. When pulling out, bend in plastic where screw was something like 1/2 inch. There is a moulded dime sized shape in panel that locks in to the fridge that keeps the panel from moving that you have to bypass. Should slide out.

    • @chrishardwick5952
      @chrishardwick5952 8 років тому

      +mark dorio Mine didnt have a screw, you need to dig your fingers in the back behind the panel and pull it sideways, ie. Right, about half an inch so the lug is free before sliding it out/forward.

    • @iandd1644
      @iandd1644 8 років тому +1

      Mine doesn't have a screw (as others have commented) There is a lug behind the panel at the top back. That is why you need to get your fingers behind the top back of the panel to distort it by pulling it out to clear the lug before you can slide the panel out. The lug is about 10mm long so you need to distort the panel by about that much. You may need to let the freezer warm up to clear any ice behind the panel (mine was warm by the time I found the lug..after tapping and hitting the panel trying to get it to move). The ice maker is clipped into the roof of the freezer at two points. A gentle twist with a flat screwdriver blade between the icemaker and the freezer roof removes it.

      It really takes quite a tug. pull out the top rear slightly as there is a lug behind that could be stopping it moving forward. It does work as stipulated . If your pulling out the icemaker our model had a small screw that had to be undone first.
