This show is just a masterpiece of story telling to be honest.
I love the priest he’s so underrated
When he talks is beautiful almost every time
I love this episode. The parallelism between the discourse on what it means to be a true warrior and the discourse on love is truly wonderful and beautiful.
I know it feels like Canute's transformation happened in a few seconds, but the author gave us some clues to suggest that Canute has always been pretty capable but has been acting dumb strategically.
First clue is that Ragnar tells us that Canute was able to navigate court intrigues and survive in a difficult political environment.
Second clue is that Canute tells us that he's being cautious to not cause any political trouble for the King without permission. This is smart since Sweyn is already looking for reasons to punish him. Notice he says something extremely dumb like "catch that bird for me Ragnar" when people are expecting him to make decisions.
Third clue is how he talks to Thorfinn when cooking. That's the same confident and bossy tone he has now after his transformation. It's always been there though, but in private. The fact that his tone changes that much means that he was likely putting on an act in public.
The priest is the guy in the bathroom in La Haine
You are absolutely gonna love season 2 😅
Just knowing you're coming up to season 2 makes me excited for you.
I would do some research the the specific love AGAPE. I believe that’s the love he is referencing here. One of my fav episodes ever.
This show is just a masterpiece. One of the greatest animes ever
The priest basically says that true love means that you have no expectations from someone else and you still love everyone the same. No matter if they hate you, if they stole from you or if they are your siblings, parents, boss etc. True love doesn’t discriminate and makes no difference between people.
And Canute rightfully realizes that this is impossible. People will always judge and favour some people over others. So when god is saying that you should love everyone Canute realizes that this can’t ever work out. He is disappointed that he believed all his life in godand his word despite reaching gods „goal“ is impossible. Therefore he decides to create something resembling peace (through politics and therefore also violence) which may come closest to what god wants them to be (because people who live in peace are closer to loving everyone then people who are afraid, right?)

Can’t wait for the finale
7:43 AS HE DID TO EVERYONE FRFR
I liked a comment on these episodes interpreting the priest (and the show) talking about the concept of "Agape", a "love for everyone", the kind with no favourites. Even Ragnar just had something akin to "Storge", love for the family, his favourtism leading to the death of an entire village. God supposedly has Agape and it's prevalent in Christian doctrine and also for Thors. This will become even clearer later, but in the short time we knew him, Thors faced a clearly cruel man who was after the slave that escaped and yet didn't fight even though it should've been easy. Even when him and others were threatened by Askeladd's crew, he refused to kill.
Thors had Agape.
As then the priest makes Canute realize Agape, realize what people ought to feel, he realizes what an impossible task it is. So then his frustrations with his biological father combine with his new frustrations with his Heavenly father, the feeling of abandonment and he gains the perspective and drive that doesn't yield to neither.
best decision ever to watch 18 and 19 together
The name of the first episode. Somewhere but not here
The 2nd season blows the first out of the water too, If you can believe it. I *really* don't say that lightly.
before choosing the next anime, to avoid situations like the one with chainsaw, i would advise to ask chatgpt for a spoiler free review and the topics that are covered in it so that you know what you are getting yourself into. My recommendation: Monster
As much as I like this show, it doesn’t share Christianity in its most faithful sense. It’s more of the authors interpretation of Christianity based on his perspective. So no, Christ wasn’t perfect once He died. According to the Christian Faith, Christ was always perfect because He is God. Christ’s Passion was to die for our sins, and His resurrection made it so that we might be in right relation with God by our faith in Him.
Not trying to start an argument, but isn't that what faith is? An interpretation of whatever religious texts, your own beliefs. That's why there are so many sects of the same religion, no? Genuine question
@@Skatingnoob Faith in Christ is a gift from God, it isn’t based on anything you do according to the Apostle Paul. It isn’t interpreting anything, “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” While you are correct that there are various denominations, most don’t fall in line with orthodoxy (or right understanding; the essentials). For instance, gnostics aren’t Christian, their beliefs are counter to what the Gospel accounts say who Jesus was and what he preached, yet they are considered a denomination. Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, even Muslims, all of these proclaim that Jesus was a Prophet, or a good teacher, but none of them acknowledge Him as God.
A lot of the claims that I am sharing with you have historically been orthodox positions. Now whether you agree or not is up to you, but if you’re interested in theology and philosophy, I highly recommend reading Thomas Aquinas. There’s is also a book called “The First Three Thousand Years of Christianity,” if you want to look into church history. I hope this helps you 🙏🏽
I don't think Willibald is attempting to apply his logic to Jesus, but rather to those who are tainted by original sin.
More specifically, I think it's important to remember the context of Willibald's mindset when he's talking about his idea of perfection. He's pretty clearly depressed and convinced that man is not capable of reaching the idea of "agape" as he understands it. Logically he must have believed that man was capable of love before this point or he wouldn't have been out amongst the vikings trying to teach them about it.
@@trilltez thanks for the reply! I'll look into it
