If it says "fiance/engagement" on Roots, what will it show in Ancestry when ported back there?

Yep. Especially since FamilySearch has this feature.

I have been doing something similar in Legacy for years, just not under the umbrella group of "associates". I try to add everyone who is part of an event and describe their role. I might create an event called "associations".
