Love this podcast episode it’s so true on all levels, especially when just starting out , you’re so excited that you 1. Do not take in all the information of just the testing phase of candles , 2. You tend to overspend 3. You forget you have a significant other and household things like laundry, dinner , time management isn’t even a factor in the beginning, until you start to burn out and you’re broke 😅, that’s when it hits , but lessons learned , and I do have help when needed , I was definitely like you , it mine I got this , I’m going to take over the world , nope everything consumed me , this is exactly what I think every new small business owner should hear / know , thank you for sharing & I enjoyed the footage along with the podcast 🥰
Hey I been watching you for a little while now and I so far love your vids! I have learned so much and have so much still to learn! I am just starting out and I do want to do it all! But this vid makes total sense and I know I will not be able to once everything really starts going for me. I am just in the beginning stages of it all, so researching and learning as much as I can!. I just gravitated to your site and i have not been disappointed!! Thank you! Keep educating us! I know i sure do appreciate it. ❤❤
Aw well welcome!! Thank you so much for all your kind words and I hope you find tons of valuable information in my channel!! ☺️❤️ I try to put up at least two videos a week!
Love this podcast style please continue to do more and as always you have continued to keep me inspired as a small candle business, I'm not at your level yet but I know I will get there if I continue to do the work that is needed. I know this is an different episode but I purchased your Master Shipping course, and I would your help with it. Thanks again for being low key mentor.
So glad you enjoyed it! And oh, are you having issues accessing the course? Or did you have a specific question? Either way email me erica@memoryboxcandleco.com and I can try to help! ❤️
I don't want to have a massively successful candle business. I just want to supplement my income so I can cut down to part time at my primary job. Everyone's goals aren't the same.
I justed added one!❤️ I also have an older "make candles with me" podcast style videos I used to do. Now I'm kind of blending the two styles together ☺️ ua-cam.com/play/PLROm0uE7OzT0P3RdToRxf6guBLL-QRVG9.html
Hi Erika. Your podcast today is really helpful to us. You always come out with amazing videos!! My wife and I started a candle business last year and with that we’ve a 3 month old baby. We’ve been having a challenging time with finding time and making sure we’re not spending a lot of money. What tips do you have for us? Right now, we’ve been selling our candle by word of mouth. Any additional tips will be helping to us! Thank you!
First of all, congrats AND solidarity with the little one! I definitely underestimated how challenging it was going to be to run a business with my little one (now 5 months). My first piece of advice would be to try to divide the business tasks between the two of you based on skills/talent/time/interest. I think selling through word of mouth is a great way to get started, and just like I mentioned in the video, you may have to utilize patience a lot more as you build up your local customer base. You could go onto your local facebook group page and advertise your products. I would make sure the group allows for this (there's a group in my city that allows businesses to advertise on mondays only). But I would be strategic about it. Do a giveaway, or offer a specific service to people in the area (i.e. event candles, custom candles, etc). You could also try to see if any corporate gifting is needed in your area; you could even offer some free samples for gift box services in your area in exchange for including your business card/marketing materials to get your name out there. If you don't have a lot of time or money, It's best to focus on marketing where you use your product as the "money" towards marketing. Instead of spending money on facebook/IG ads, you use your product as the "money" towards your advertising. The benefit to this is that you are guaranteeing that people (potential customers or "leads") are going to get their hands on your product. And if your product impresses them enough, then they will seek out your business for more candles/products! Yes of course you're still paying for the supplies to make the products, but that's technically all you will be spending on marketing in this strategy. Giveaways, "donating" your samples/products to local gifting services, contacting micro influencers on IG to give free products for them to review/post about, are all examples of "paying" for marketing with your product. I hope this helps! I know how hard it is to run a business with a baby so please go easy on yourselves as you try to figure it all out! Also I actually think I want to make a whole video topic about this!
HI May I ask where did you purchase that handy wax dispenser? I really appreciate if you can get back to me on that; I've been following you for a while now, I own a large apiary and my daughter wants to play with making candles since I got the premium raw material, lol. Thanks in advance. Dan
@MemoryBoxCandleCo Erika, did you do cdn on the jars 13.5 oz, or did you use eco -1 x2 or cdn 2? Thanks , continue. Blessings, you and your family. Thanks
Super helpful and relevant info for me as a mom of 2 :) + a 9-5. Very grateful for the authentic information. Out of curiosity, this video had 928 views & I was the 84th like. Seems like a data point that’s super skewed. Any thoughts on why that is?
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo yep, looking at why the likes are not closer to the views amount. I’m not a YT but I’m trying to get a sense of this business side. So def I would expect more likes
@@rosi6063 oh! A typical amount is about 5-10% of the views is likes. Hardly anyone “likes” videos! I WISH I got the same amount of likes as I did views 😅

Your amazing thanks for all your wisdom sharing really helps
Where did you get the small vessel I've been trying to find these so I can have a sample when a person orders my candles
We found these gold 1.5 tins at paper mart!
I don't want to have a massively successful candle business. I just want to supplement my income so I can cut down to part time at my primary job. Everyone's goals aren't the same.
And that's fine❤

Question, how can I find a good accountant? It’s hard to find one I can trust. 😔
I totally get that! Do you have a local Facebook group for your city? If so, I would ask for recommendations for a good small business CPA! ❤️
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo I do not but I’m going to find a group to join now. This is such a good idea! I didn’t think about that. Thank you so much Erika!
