Sadly, for most games, I have a knack for doing really well the first couple or so plays of a game (board, PC, whatever). I just happen to understand the rules and some starting strategies quicker than others. Unfortunately, I don't tend to progress much beyond those early winning strategies and others (usually my brothers or my wife), with more plays, will pull even or surpass me. That said, I would have to say these are the games that I rock at (even after others have played as often): 1) Tri-Bond - I just see the patterns 2) Egyptian Ratscrew - I can hit a streak of losing cards, but because I slap the pairs fastest, I tend to drag it out and endure to the end 3) Encore - the only ones that really present a challenge to me in this are my sisters, who sing professionally 4) Star Wars (classic trilogy) Trivial Pursuit - only once did I not win this... and it basically dragged out to a draw (and we were playing it as a drinking game) 5) Get Bit! - to be fair, I tend to play this only when introducing new players to the game 6) Scattergories (with the alliteration rule) - when there are bonus points for multi-word answers that use the rolled letter, I kick butt! 7) Othello - been playing it since 6th grade, and have not lost since 8) Ingenious 9) Rummy 500 - even if I grab a lot of cards from the discard pile, I'll still rack up immense points 10) Spades Honorable mention to Spit, which used to be a game at which I was unbeatable... and then I got married... and my wife, somehow, is amazingly good at it! And that's the segue to my wife's list: 1) Lost Cities - we play this quite often, and she still wins significantly more often than I 2) Blokus - 2, 3, or 4 players... I have still never beat her at this! 3) Qwirkle - a couple of close ones, but they still tend to go her way 4) City Square Off - she's got a mind for Tetris 5) Gin Rummy - odd that I rock at Rummy 500, but she excels at Gin... neither of us really know why! 6) Star Wars: Episode 1 - Clash of the Lightsabers 7) Spit
Loved this one, your best top 10 video of all in my opinion! You guys bantering has always been my favorite part, and plenty of that here! Would love to see some of the games you guys are kind of challenging each other on in a live play!
Chess. Played it virtually every day as a kid growing up. Even go so far as buying "chess problems" books and solving them. I like to think of it as cardio for the brain.
Even if it was a Worst Of list, Sam would try to find some way to put Twilight Imperium 3 on the list just for the sake of putting his favorite game on another list.
"Now, the first 2 arnt MY worst, so number 10 is the worst on someone's list who doesnt like long games. So my number ten is Zee's perception of.. Twilight Imperium"
I swear Twilight Imperium is a game that only gets played because people WANT to love the concept so badly and are convinced that if they learn the game more it will finally come true. It's just such a horrendously balanced mess of a game that takes 6-10 hours. You need an expansion and several house rules just for it to come close to being playable. Way too much is luck riding on which secret objective you draw (yet another house rule: everyone picks multiple secret objectives). You can predict the top 2 finishers (if not the 1st place winner) just by glancing at the board setup, races, and secret objectives everyone has. It's a 10 hour game that's pretty much decided right at setup. That's anti-fun.
I am generally pretty good at board games relative to who I play with, but I also have some skilled opponents so generally have a chance of losing whenever I play. The exception for this and The one game for me that goes on the list is Kingsburg. I've probably played about 50 times or so in person, and only have lost once(to a newish player nonetheless!). Dice is a big part of the game (how you get resources) but whenever I see someone complain about how it is random or just getting unlucky online, I fall back to my record here. In many of the games I've played I've had the lowest average dice rolls, or at least in the middle: The last few my worse rolls have been early which can hurt the engine.
Age of Empires III - Age of Discovery - 14 from 15 San Marco - won 6 from 7 Pandemic - usually win with 6 epidemics even while teaching new players. Crokinole - but I haven't played board owners regularly. Scrabble - I haven't played in a tournament but have a good win loss and score on online 2 minute turn games. Pick Two - Chess - I haven't played any serious competition players but have pretty sound defence and game structure. Scotland Yard - I would challenge anyone to win as Mr X against me. El Grande - 7 from 12 only once came worse than second I think. Medici - Often win. Almost never come worse than close second.
So guys what is the game your best at? For me Its BattleCON. I'm probably top 3 player in the known universe at this game. Can't wait for the new expansion ( trails )btw.
Great top 10 list! Truthfully, it's always about who I'm playing. I like to think I'm always competitive. I'm tough at MTG, Operation Tannhauser, and Gears of War.
One game I'm particularly good at, when playing the original Cheapass Games rules, is The Big Idea. Whether my sales pitches are good or not, I am ridiculously good at the investment phase and almost always end up winning. One of my biggest tabletop gaming gripes of all time is that the later versions of the game completely removed the investment phase and essentially turned it into a PC version of Cards Against Humanity, which blows some serious chunks.
I know it's not that difficult of a game, but if Death came to me and said, "Choose one board game. If you win, you live, but if you lose you die," I would pick Lanterns. I've played it like a dozen times and I'm pretty sure I've never lost.
Axis and Allies, Splendor and Lost Cities are all games I do very well at. But where I really mop up at is word association games. Codenames, Taboo, Concept, etc.
I love trivia, so I tend to be good at trivia games, but there are a couple great trivia players in my current group, so that is a great challenge and had definitely changed my win record some. lol
im good at Race for the galaxy which I thought would be on Tom's list. Then five tribes, coup, Flick em up, Russian railroads and Carcassonne. I am getting better at Onirim over the years
I am best at Targi and Vanuatu. I beat the number 8 ranked player globally on BGA at Targi and he gave me negative feedback lol. Some people just can't take a loss.
Why on earth are Tom and Sam still giving a hard time to Zee for playing and enjoying solo games??? I only play solo games, look at the hobby (and Dice Tower videos) almost exclusively from that perspective and love whenever Zee brings them up. THANKS ZEE!!!
I know, I know. I have asked Tom about it, and I know that while he does not personally like solo games, he would never demean those games or the people who like them (I am sure Sam would say something similar). Still, is not uncommon to find gamers and commenters who do. Solo games (and gamers) have become more visible recently and I think they should get more attention and less ribbing (at least not all the time).
I am 28W - 0L at Ricochet Robot, at any player count between 2 and 6 so far. I should just break that streak though, because it is quite heavy to carry :p There is no such thing as a casual game of that anymore, when that game hits the table, the stakes are high!
5 games that i'm good at are The Witcher Adventure game (totally has nothing to do with the fact I almost always play Geralt, nope!) , Age of Conan, Mistfall (knowing when the best time is to use each card, Blood Rage and Specter Ops (Naturally sneaky I guess?)
Suuuuuure Geralt has nothing to do with it. Just like I *never* basically "take the night off" if I draw the Prophetess, Alchemist, or Elementalist either....or the Psyker in Relic. Dear lord they might as well have just named that guy the Prophetess....
Hundreds of games, memorizing every deck inside and out. That's it, really. Also, double and triple check the rules. If you want, there's also a forum you can join and discuss things, like strategy and rules stuff. I'm on there, with the same name. It's at greaterthangames.com
I think I have a 100% win rate in Risk (vanilla and 2 or 3 games of Legacy). I also probably have a 85 - 90%% win rating in Splendor after I'm sure 25 games. Opposite to that, I've probably won 3 games of Settlers in the last 12 years. Kingsburg I lose a lot at too, though I play it often.
I won't order my list.... Through the Ages: I absolutely hate this game and will never play it again, but I was taught this game by 2 people who knew it and like it, I won. Sure I only played it once, but many people like it, as its a pretty deep game and I won on my 1st play. Havana: I played this 2 or 3 times. I have won every time. It is my 46th favorite game. Lords of Vegas: I have played this 3 times. All 3 times there were 4 players, and 2 of those players own it and have played many times, but have won every game I have played of this. My 30th favorite game. Run, Fight, or Die!: my 11th favorite game. Like Sam said on 2 games, this is a dice game, but the luck can be mitigated. If you play safe in this game, you more than likely will lose. It's been awhile since I have played, and haven't won every game, but have won most of them. Balderdash/Beyond Balderdash my 20th favorite game. I don't always win, but almost always do very well. I am good at writing fake definitions. Tikal: my 2nd favorite game. I do pretty good at this game, and absolutely love it. 2 player is my favorite. But all player counts are fun. Trias: is my 3rd favorite game. I don't always win, but I do very well. Another game I love, and all player counts are good. Colt Express: my 5th favorite game, I don't always win, but I do well. I love it with the horse and stage coach expansion, and looking forward to the new one! Above and Below: my 8th favorite game, and only played once. But won my 1st game. Looking forward to more plays!
The only games I can think of off the top of my head I have never lost are Cthulu Realms and Orleans. Other than that, I very rarely lose Blood Bowl: Team Manager, Onitama, Matcha, or Cthulhu Wars.
Hey guys! After seeing a lot of your videos and hearing a lot of how Jason destroys each one of you in games. Why wont you make a list of the Top 10 Games that i prefer to lose against Jason (cause its hard to make the one in which you win, let have a little spin and make it, in which ones you prefer to lose xD)
I could make a top 10 list of games that I'm good at, but it would overlap too much with the top 10 list of games that people won't play with me anymore. :-/
Great video, love Mr. Rose's T-Shirt! Corn for the Cornflakes! (that was for Sam) You wouldn't really be able to sew dissention in our group though since the games I'm best at are cooperative games. I don't play many competitive board games because I don't really get the same rush others get from "winning" but cooperative games are what really got me back into board games. The ones we're best at would be Legendary, Elder Sign (Usually played as a form of self apology for the results of an Eldritch Horror game) and we play co-op MageKnight vs. You know who (who has actually made us *run out* of wound cards before!) Now that I think about it I have a really good win record at Talisman but that's mostly due to an obsession with proving that it isn't random (Thank you my friends Waterfall and The Dungeon, respectively.) We also have a *perfect* record against Ghost Stories which is because we've played it *once* and our great strategy was if beginner's luck shows up.....*retire.*
Well you're friends are wrong, I play demons too. They're called the Steel Battalion! It was my pleasure I rarely get to hear WarHammer 40k mentioned on a top 10 list so it was a thrill! I'd really like to see videos that aren't just BatReps but full games with tactics and army tips, rolls the whole deal! (Nudge nudge wink wink) Besides, what could be more amusing than watching a war against Chaos waged with umpteen d6?
So when is the Ticket to Ride/Ascension showdown with Tom and Jonathan going live...? Maybe add Laura for the Ticket to Ride; would love seeing her murdering them in the all-time greatest gateway game!
Sam-- I wish I could get more people to want to play Smallworld with me. I really enjoy it and seem pretty good at it, but no one ever wants to play. They always say it is too silly, or not strategic enough. But, like you, I think they are wrong.
Euphoria. To echo an earlier sentiment, I feel like Rain-Man when I play it. I just see everything and how it fits and my family refuses to play it with me. Same reason we won't play Cargo Noir with my wife.
Games I am good at(No order): DC Comics Deck-Building Game Spyfall Smash Up The Resistance Avalon Cosmic Encounter Ticket to Ride Game of Thrones: The Card Game(Second Edition) Star Wars Rebellion 10 out 10 wins :)
For some reason i am really good at five tribes! Its the only game that i am going to win 9 out of 10. But i am not very good in all the other games cause my group have some really smart people in it.
I'm best at spacial games, so galaxy trucker, and barenpark and suburbia. I'm pretty good at Deception too. I'm pretty good at Twilight Struggle but some people are just masters. There's a higher level to that game.
I think he's told the story more than once. There's not much to it, though - it was the last turn, they would both have won if they had both played Negotiate cards, and he told her he would, but... he didn't. At least, that's how I remember it.
It was humbling to try and think of games I'm good at. There was one...just one that I could honestly say I'm good at. Codenames. If I'm playing the spy master I usually get combos of 4 or 5 going. I'm also very good at being a teammate...but as a spymaster...psshhhh...game over.
I'm good at welcome to the dungeon, small world and pandemic. I don't even like pandemic but I haven't lost at it. I have good results at small world but I don't even feel like I'm too knowledgeable about it.
Zee knocks it out of the park! So hilarious!
Absolutely, on top form.
Zee is always a great personality for these videos. He must be a ton of fun to play games with. :-)
KabukiKid Yeah but, according to Zee, he always wins...lol
First off all, what is Skeeby ? 😂
I am absolutely SHOCKED that Sam has a list that mentioned TI3, BANG The Dice Game, Blood Rage, and Memoir 44. :)
That said, I would have to say these are the games that I rock at (even after others have played as often):
1) Tri-Bond - I just see the patterns
2) Egyptian Ratscrew - I can hit a streak of losing cards, but because I slap the pairs fastest, I tend to drag it out and endure to the end
3) Encore - the only ones that really present a challenge to me in this are my sisters, who sing professionally
4) Star Wars (classic trilogy) Trivial Pursuit - only once did I not win this... and it basically dragged out to a draw (and we were playing it as a drinking game)
5) Get Bit! - to be fair, I tend to play this only when introducing new players to the game
6) Scattergories (with the alliteration rule) - when there are bonus points for multi-word answers that use the rolled letter, I kick butt!
7) Othello - been playing it since 6th grade, and have not lost since
8) Ingenious
9) Rummy 500 - even if I grab a lot of cards from the discard pile, I'll still rack up immense points
10) Spades
Honorable mention to Spit, which used to be a game at which I was unbeatable... and then I got married... and my wife, somehow, is amazingly good at it!
And that's the segue to my wife's list:
1) Lost Cities - we play this quite often, and she still wins significantly more often than I
2) Blokus - 2, 3, or 4 players... I have still never beat her at this!
3) Qwirkle - a couple of close ones, but they still tend to go her way
4) City Square Off - she's got a mind for Tetris
5) Gin Rummy - odd that I rock at Rummy 500, but she excels at Gin... neither of us really know why!
6) Star Wars: Episode 1 - Clash of the Lightsabers
7) Spit
I always enjoy these live top 10s. This one was hilarious. Well done.
A good top 10 would be: "games that we sucks but enjoying playing anyway"
I thought the exact same thing watching this!
That's every game for me!
haha.. yeah me too!
great idea. Most of my favorites fall into that category...dominant species in particular
Loved this one, your best top 10 video of all in my opinion! You guys bantering has always been my favorite part, and plenty of that here! Would love to see some of the games you guys are kind of challenging each other on in a live play!
Very nice to see the guys live and out of their usual environment! :D Hope you do this more often.
There are a number of such live shows among the Top 10s (sorry, can't remember which offhand).
Found a few:"Games These Two Jokers Don't Appreciate"(^recent, and as one might expect, hilarious)
"Fantasy Games"
"Essentials for a Good Game Store"
How could I forget the granddaddy of them all? "Overrated Games."
Nice to have some fresh picks and conversation with Jonathan!
Divinare looks like a really cool game!
Dang! New guy has awesome taste in boardgames!
Thanks man!
21:50 is that Slavoj Zizek in the background?

It's a 10 hour game that's pretty much decided right at setup. That's anti-fun.
you can notice how zee tones it down when commenting on jonathan's choices but goes full blast roasting on tom and sam
Age of Empires III - Age of Discovery - 14 from 15
San Marco - won 6 from 7
Pandemic - usually win with 6 epidemics even while teaching new players.
Crokinole - but I haven't played board owners regularly.
Scrabble - I haven't played in a tournament but have a good win loss and score on online 2 minute turn games.
Pick Two -
Chess - I haven't played any serious competition players but have pretty sound defence and game structure.
Scotland Yard - I would challenge anyone to win as Mr X against me.
El Grande - 7 from 12 only once came worse than second I think.
Medici - Often win. Almost never come worse than close second.
Great and fun list. I first thought it said Top 10 games we wished we rock. I would love to see that list.
So guys what is the game your best at? For me Its BattleCON. I'm probably top 3 player in the known universe at this game. Can't wait for the new expansion ( trails )btw.
Yeah, I was surprised Tom didn't mention BattleCON considering how much he liked it in his review of Devastation. Who are your mains?
So did the Ticket To Ride challenge happen? Who won?
Love this guys! Especially putting Blood Rage in there. Sam, at least you stayed kinda humble lol!
Great top 10 list! Truthfully, it's always about who I'm playing. I like to think I'm always competitive. I'm tough at MTG, Operation Tannhauser, and Gears of War.
yayy a new top 10 :) cant wait to go home and watch it ..
You Rock Sam! I purchased Memoir 44 just because of your advice through the years!
"How can you be good at a dice game?"
-Because it's a top ten list and Bang the Dice Game must be on it.
@Zee and Sam, how good are you with dancer in neuroshima?
Aslo about games i'm good at i'll just put two Galaxy trucker and Dungeon fighter :D
Geocities has been archived, those strategy guides are probably still available.
I love trivia, so I tend to be good at trivia games, but there are a couple great trivia players in my current group, so that is a great challenge and had definitely changed my win record some. lol
Sam is 100% right about Stone Age. I always win and it has nothing to do with rolling the dice.
Same, I have never lost a game of stone age. I love taking building that people want by looking at their recourses
There is definitely a lot of skill in Stone Age. I have about an 80% Win rate online and I know of. people who can go on 20-30 game win streaks.
I think a live gameplay of gemblo between sam and tom is essential after seeing this video
Zee rocked this list! This video is absolutely hilarious!
omg this was the best, hilarious top 10 ever done
When Zee said, "If I don't win, nobody...,"
I thought he was going to say "knows it."
Smash up is my jam. I'm also currently undefeated in TI:3 ..... only 3 plays though.
Awesome warhammer shirt (jonathan) business manager guy! Where can I get one?
I randomly found it on facebook the backs better marine doing battle prayer.
I agree with the mention - I would love to see a "Top Ten Games we love that we are not very good at"
Wow... 3 out of 4 of the number tens I either own or are number one on my wish list.
Santy Anno. After a couple of rounds, the others switched to compete for _second_ place.
im good at Race for the galaxy which I thought would be on Tom's list. Then five tribes, coup, Flick em up, Russian railroads and Carcassonne. I am getting better at Onirim over the years
I am best at Targi and Vanuatu. I beat the number 8 ranked player globally on BGA at Targi and he gave me negative feedback lol. Some people just can't take a loss.
can you explain what was so lame at the tabletop's sheriff of Nottingham?
Great list guys :)
I'm pretty good at Nueroshima Hex too, but mostly because I play my younger brother and I always pick Doomsday Machine.
I'm Strong at Summoner Wars. big fan of that game as well.
oh man I love Summoner Wars
It would be cool to see a top-10 list of games that you really enjoy despite being terrible at :)
I remember tom saying in a podcast top 10 that he won aumen re alot as well . I wonder where that game ended up on his short list?
Why on earth are Tom and Sam still giving a hard time to Zee for playing and enjoying solo games??? I only play solo games, look at the hobby (and Dice Tower videos) almost exclusively from that perspective and love whenever Zee brings them up. THANKS ZEE!!!
light hearted ribbing...
Actually Tom has been playing that new horror 2nd edition game solo lately. Mansion of Madness? maybe...?
I am 28W - 0L at Ricochet Robot, at any player count between 2 and 6 so far. I should just break that streak though, because it is quite heavy to carry :p There is no such thing as a casual game of that anymore, when that game hits the table, the stakes are high!
5 games that i'm good at are The Witcher Adventure game (totally has nothing to do with the fact I almost always play Geralt, nope!) , Age of Conan, Mistfall (knowing when the best time is to use each card, Blood Rage and Specter Ops (Naturally sneaky I guess?)

Sentinels of the Multiverse is on my list, for sure. I've beaten every villain on advanced challenge mode.
Also, Castles of Mad King Ludwig.
oh, and Codenames
additionally: Summoner Wars, BattleCon
McBehrer Okay, I'm impressed because I find that Sentinels of the Multiverse is tough even on the easier villains. What's your secret?
Has Sam ever not put Bang the Dice Game and Bloodrage on it?
Games I'm great at I would say are Small World, Mission Red Planet, Ticket to Ride, Stone Age
I would love to play Ascension with Tom or Jason...
I know you guys won't be adding Mechs vs. Minions to your list! Haha!
I am bad at most games. The only one that I seem to regularly win is Kemet.
great video!
Overpower, that brings back memories.
What do you think about making a list of Top 10 Games with Bad Instruction or with Worst Instruction.
The only games I can think of off the top of my head I have never lost are Cthulu Realms and Orleans. Other than that, I very rarely lose Blood Bowl: Team Manager, Onitama, Matcha, or Cthulhu Wars.
Jonathan seems like a nice guy ! Fun list
Thanks for watching!
I thought this was a fun episode :)
I'm good at Bang! The Dice Game for the same reasons Sam gave. I think it's as much a bluffing game as it is a dice game.
I would love to take Jonathans challenge for Pitch Car or a similar game (Crokinole). If you're ever in northeast Ohio look me up.
Someone actually snatched my pitchcar stuff so in the process of rebuying it :(
Okay Zee, when I visit the US I will come to Miami and we play Blue Moon!
I have never lost a game of Sheriff of Nottingham. I havent even been close to losing. Its my jam.
I could make a top 10 list of games that I'm good at, but it would overlap too much with the top 10 list of games that people won't play with me anymore. :-/
I think I'm pretty good at Tigris and Euphrates and mice and mystics.
Everything else I win by beginners luck and then lose forever after.
I love Zee!! haha!!!
Jonathan, my Black Templars challenge your army.
What are your armies by the way?
Mostly Daemons just started a War Convocation for Admech
My friends say I dishonor the Aquila because I play demons. Thanks for watching.
Going to try and start shooting more videos that will be related to minis or mini based boardgames.
Great! I didn't know you had your own channel I'll check it out, sorry about getting your last name wrong.
I do not yet planning on starting one
I am good in my game group with Dominant Species...Mainly because no one else wants to play it and they want to end it as soon as possible. /wrist
So when is the Ticket to Ride/Ascension showdown with Tom and Jonathan going live...? Maybe add Laura for the Ticket to Ride; would love seeing her murdering them in the all-time greatest gateway game!
Sam R O C K S at balderdash is what he rocks at...seriously watch their live play video
Poor John, was trampled buy the other three a couple of times. His enthusiasm dwindles buy the end. Still, pretty funny top10.
Jonathan is lovely... Personable and very cute!
Oh yeah, and great taste in games ^_^
Haha thank you very much
I so want to see Zee and my son play Five Tribes together!
Games I am good at(No order):
DC Comics Deck-Building Game
Spyfall
Smash Up
The Resistance Avalon
Cosmic Encounter
Ticket to Ride
Game of Thrones: The Card Game(Second Edition)
Star Wars Rebellion 10 out 10 wins :)
For some reason i am really good at five tribes! Its the only game that i am going to win 9 out of 10. But i am not very good in all the other games cause my group have some really smart people in it.
3 items in and Sam has already mentioned TI3, Fire & Axe and Bang the Dice Game. Wow, just wow. #unexpected
I have never lost a game of Terraforming Mars.
I'm good at Carcassonne. In fact so good, that people gang up on me and I never win it any more. :)Also, I can hold my own at Backgammon. :)
15:50 But Ascension is so much better than Hearthstone
Arguable.
I rock at Codenames. I never lost as Master Spy.
cool subject!
I'm best at spacial games, so galaxy trucker, and barenpark and suburbia. I'm pretty good at Deception too. I'm pretty good at Twilight Struggle but some people are just masters. There's a higher level to that game.
Ticket to Ride is very random.
Tiny Towns. I'm undefeated. :-)
I'm really good at Qwirkle and Ticket To Ride.
Where do i find the video of where Tom mentioned he lied to his wife?
I think he's told the story more than once. There's not much to it, though - it was the last turn, they would both have won if they had both played Negotiate cards, and he told her he would, but... he didn't. At least, that's how I remember it.
I love playing games but I pretty much lose all of then hahahaha
It was humbling to try and think of games I'm good at. There was one...just one that I could honestly say I'm good at. Codenames. If I'm playing the spy master I usually get combos of 4 or 5 going. I'm also very good at being a teammate...but as a spymaster...psshhhh...game over.
I'm good at Carcassonne and Niya
Good at Spartacus. ;)
I'm good at welcome to the dungeon, small world and pandemic. I don't even like pandemic but I haven't lost at it. I have good results at small world but I don't even feel like I'm too knowledgeable about it.
Sam: A list of games I enjoy but don't win.
