X Class rotor, brake pads replacement

This is a video about replacing a bent rotor after a crash I had and also how to replace the brake pads on a Tektro cotter pin style caliper. Kind of a weird ending because the audio cutout. But after bedding the brakes they are nice and quiet again, for how long they stay quiet is to be seen.

Finally, brake squeal solved with Galfer Disc Wave rotors model DB003W and Tektro E10.11 organic brake pads. The Galfer rotor design correctly suppresses vibration and harmonics of my X-Class 52v. I have tried 5 different models of brake pads. I've used Squeal Out, sandpaper and rubbing alcohol, but the squeal always came back. The common factor was the Tektro rotor. I expect other brake pad compounds will also work quietly with the Galfer rotors.

That's great information. So far so good with the pad replacement, no squeal yet and I commute on my bike so it's had some use and a lot of braking to test it out. But I'll keep that galfer in mind if the squeal returns. Where did you get the rotors? I agree with you that the stock tectro rotors are the weak link, they are thin and probably cause a lot of vibration and harmonics

I have a Park Tool PCS-10 repair stand at home that has worked well for my 48v X-Class. The stand has the legs that stick out and I have it set to the lowest height for stability. I put a cloth around the frame and clamp it on the top tube. I see Tektro also has metal ceramic pads. I'm going to have to do some research how they compare.

I have a park stand as well, problem is with my tank bag I can't get to the top tube, lol. And my tank bag is zip tied on. Even though these green tektro pads said organic in the description there is still some metal in the pads. Organic pads are usually quieter but don't last as long. Semi metallic pads usually wear well but can be noisy.

Did you upgrade to a larger 203mm from original 180mm rotors, along with a brake adapter?

No I did not. It's just a stock inexpensive brake job. The reason I did not upgrade at this time is because I want to do a major upgrade in the future but it will be expensive and I dont want to take the bike out of service right no as I still commute on it. I'm looking into a Magura 4 piston calliper set up but not committed to that yet. But I will say that by just changing the pads to the green pads the squeaking has gone away so far with a weeks worth of riding.

So far so good, no squeeling on the morning commute. I'll give it a week or 2 and report back, or sooner if they start to squeal again.
