    On this hike, I tried to get to the most secluded Cabin in the Alps. Day one shows me hiking the long way up to the cabin, day two is me summiting a nearby mountain. I was lucky to have spectacular views all the way to the cabin and the summit.
    Reaching this cabin has definitely been my highlight this year. With this video, I am hoping to share some of the impressions and fantastic views that I managed to capture while hiking. Thanks for watching.
    Concerning the whereabouts of this incredible cabin: I am not going to disclose this information here, out of respect for the builders and owners of this cabin. Thank you for your understanding!

    I am 74, and this old body is winding down. So many beautiful sights in our world I didn't get to see. Now, I will never climb that mountain, stand on that peak and watch the salmon sunset, sleep in a cabin on a cliff, or make it to that summit. But I don't have to mourn that, because you did it for me. Thank you! The unexpected Crucifix took my breath away.

    Many years ago my son and I lived in Carmel Mountain Ranch CA, outside of Poway, CA. Many a Saturday we would hike to the top of Mt. Woodson. The hike was up a very steep service road that switched back and forth. I had to take little bitty steps to make the grade and it was exhausting. One Saturday we were about 3/4ths of the way up and an old man came hauling ass past us like he was walking on flat ground at sea level! I was like WTF as I huffed and puffed the rest of the way up. When we reached the top I spoke to the old man who stood there admiring the vista. He told me he lived in the Swiss Alps for his entire life and came to San Diego to visit his daughter. My son was 19 years old a the time. We sat and talked with old man and listened with fascination as he told us of spending his life walking up and down mountains! Your video brought back memories of my son and that wonderful day we met the old man. My son passed at the age of 41 so these memories mean alot. Thank You.

      That is the most lovely tribute to your son. He was alive to me. I am so deeply sorry that he is no longer alive. You did the beautiful tribute here. His value shone, he walked and hiked with his father. He got that good thing in his life. He also was present with the man from The Alps, to hear an older man's words is so valuable....what joy that moment was then and now. You gave him everything that is valuable and you are still giving. I loved reading your description of the route to the top of Mt Woodson.
      Greetings from southern Scotland. May your future days be sooo lovely. Claire

    I'm blown away by the amount of attention this video got. Until 4 weeks ago, I had just about 5 viewers per day. I wanna thank everyone for the support and all the kind comments I received. I'm working hard to read all of them and answer all the questions, although this becomes harder and harder. Please allow me to answer some of the most common ones right here:
    Are you alone on your hikes? How do you film everything?
    - To this point, I am alone in every one of my videos. I film everything by myself (that means walking back and forth a lot) and I use the Active Track technology on my drone, which allows me to focus on my feet instead of the drone controller. (Check the link in description to see what drone I use)
    How was the cabin built?
    - The cabin was built in different stages, with the last renovation being done approx around 1985. Some of the material has been flown up the mountain, but much of what you see was carried up by hand.
    Thanks for taking the time to read this, I wish you all the love and all the power.

      @@christianlucke4042 I agree. It's a kind of a dilemma between making a great video that lots of people enjoy, and at the same time annoying lots of people in the process. That's why I do my hikes all alone and far away from other hikers. That's one of the reasons why my hikes may seem a bit more "extreme" and off the path. I hope future technology will help solve the noise problem with drones. But then again, there might be abuse for espionage etc.

      Helicopters - I know they use helicopters to bring supplies to remote mountain huts in the alps. Maybe they drop-shipped the materials for the cabin. In 1974 I hiked a couple times to an Alp hut in the Glarner Range in eastern Switzerland with the couple who ran it. They told me that once per season they had supplies flown in by helicopter. In 2000, I also hiked to a remote hostel (Hotel Asher - an old monks' lodge I think). The owners there used a special narrow, single track, walk-behind vehicle to maneuver on the narrow trails (and cliff sides!) to bring up supplies for hikers and overnight guests. The even have a "restaurant" on the cliff-side!

      We do a lot of hiking/backpacking to abandoned remote forest fire lookouts in the USA--just because these historical buildings are interesting to see. My experience has been that vandals are lazy. The easier it is to get to somewhere, the more likely it will get vandalized. We have hiked to remote lookouts that are kept in pristine condition just because the people who are willing to hike that far to get to somewhere special are also the type of people who care enough to keep it nice for the next person.

    The Swiss are amazing and their ability to continue walking and climbing into old age is incredible. I used to go to the Alps often and I remember in a mountain train hearing a young American saying that if he went hiking in the Adirondaks he had to take everything with him - sufficient for six weeks - but here no matter how high he climbed or for how many hours he'd find a lady in a chalet perched near the top of the mountain selling people fresh coffee with milk and

    • @markusstudeli2997
      @markusstudeli2997 2 роки тому +19

      There is a cultural difference: Switzerland still encourages walkable cities, towns and villages. Kids are expected to walk to school or ride their bikes. Kids are often taken on hikes on weekends by their parents from a young age on; You will see people doing grocery shopping on bikes or on foot with backpacks and with small two wheel trailers; senior citizens often form hiking groups boarding trains early in the mornings to reach some alpine summits.
      In the USA, most kids are either driven to school by their parents or they are expected to hop on a school bus, because walking and cycling are considered to be too dangerous. You go to work with your cars, you go shopping with cars, you go the the fitness center with cars, you go out into nature with your cars. Even lookout points in National Parks are made car accessible, which often takes away half the charm. You hardly see older people walking the streets of their neighbourhoods. Senior citizens rather spend most of the time in their homes watching television and being afraid to leave, because the ouside seems antagonistic.
      The whole life of a majority of US citizens evolves around cars, from the cradle to the grave. With this car dependecy, the ability to walk longer stretches or up hills gets lost for a big part of the population. It's a pitty!

    • @kennethquesenberry2610
      @kennethquesenberry2610 2 роки тому +7

      @@markusstudeli2997 People were saying that when cars became somewhat common. But Switzerland does not have the distances the United States does. It also doesn't have the Appalachian Trail or all those other long-distance trails. Millions of people walk on the Appalachian Trail, with maybe a thousand actually walking it end to end. Anyway, I walked to school as a child (about two blocks) and my two kids walked to school (also about two blocks). I see many older people out walking in my suburban neighborhood, too, and I'm one of them. I'm 75. There are, of course, many cultural differences.

    • @markusstudeli2997
      @markusstudeli2997 2 роки тому +4

      @@kennethquesenberry2610 Indeed, there are always exceptions to the rules, and you might have grown up at a time, when still more pupils walked to school. It's great that you walk your neighborhood.
      In my experience, most Americans drive to go to local stores, to church and even to the fitness center. During my High School year in the US in the late 1980-ies, I was one of about 5 kids cycling to school. Almost all Freshmen and Sophmores came by bus, Juniors and Seniors were allowed to drive themselves and all the ones who could afford it, took their cars to school. It was a a matter of prestige, which made kids abandon riding bikes to school or walking there. Car culture seemed deeply embedded and the city did not really cater for cyclists nor pedestrians. During my last visit I noticed that they tried to reverse this development a bit by making the inner city a bit more walkable, but it is still a far cry from Swiss cities.
      Funny you mentioned the Appalachian trail. I actually did volunteer trail blazing on it during my later stay at a NC university. There are of course a few US Americans that are very much outdoor oriented and go on these hikes, but hiking is not nearly as popular as in Switzerland. In 1990 I made a bike tour from Montana to Southern California visiting National Parks along the way, and I noticed that the most famous parks, notably Yellowstone, Arches, Brice Canyon, Grand Canyon, Zion or Yosemite are mostly designed for tourists accessing them by car, with parking lots in close proximity of all major attractions. There were a few trails leading to remote areas, but they were hardly used. Most visitors limited their stay to the lookouts accessible by car. It's a pitty, since they miss out on incredible unspoilt nature. I took a hike from the North Rim to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, which ranks among the greatest hikes I've ever done, with incredible views and changing landscapes, and I was one of only three hikers taking this trail that day, the other 2 also being fellow Europeans!
      I think its safe to say that the US has been a lot more heavily influenced by car culture with all its repercussions, one of which is the lack of excersise for a majority of people and widespread obesity. If you avoided yourself falling into this pattern and if you keep walking in your neighborhood, good on you!

    Огромный респект за видео и такой труд в обустройстве 🏠 это красиво, таких укромных мест и людей занимающихся альпинизмом, ремонтом и строительством, в Европе должно быть ещё большей. Счастья, здоровья и удачи вам! 👍💪

      А меня удивило с 6-й минуты. Поднимается, по ступенькам отложений. Если это отложения, то были дном и потом стали горой.
      Какая сила вытолкнула земную кору?, превратив дно в гору.

      @@Mila-ky7is Знаете, недавно показали в новостях: рыбаки ловят рыбу на Амуре, а лёд дышит волнами. Сразу вспомнилось одно видео, как рыбаки (у Анапы), забросили удочки, а утром проснулись (поплавки лежать на земле (берег медленно поднялся, они и не почувствовали).
      Земля дышит, то поднимаясь то опускаясь.
      Но в момент создания гор, видно "чихала" и сразу выпирало на километры.

    I dont have a chance to climb that mountain, even to visit your place, that is why I'm thankful of your effort in sharing your video as if I was there too. More power to you.

    The mountain views are breathtaking indeed. I did biweekly wild camping with my high school classmates who also joined the Duke of Edinburgh's awards for expeditions. Our level was bronze, the paths we took were quite safe. We were also taken care of by a senior and experienced hiker. Doing hiking alone on a dangerous path is of gold level. Yours should be beyond gold level.

    God bless you in your bare-handed climbing skills😊 I marvel at the magnificence of nature and am in awe of the amazingly calm man who roams, walks, climbing it. It is more moving than a movie or television documentary. Your cinematography is the best, and the music is also chosen to be the best so that the music harmonizes with the video.
    I have a feeling that the background music is pre-made specifically for your video.

    Whoever is hiking makes it look so easy. The light is strange. Unearthly, like heaven maybe. It's like a dream. Or the next world, what a strange and lonely but beautiful place. Hang onto this earth so we can see more of this before it's all over. Thank you!

    Впечатляет горный ландшафт. Строение на уровне орлинного гнезда просто завораживает, а восхождение опасное, без страховки. Такое впечатление, что с той лёгкостью с которой поднимается альпинист, он проделывает этот путь неоднократно. Неосведомленный человек не рискнул бы подняться. А так здорово👍Какая же и красивая наша планета земля🌎
