This is on an entirely different level from any other plugin that is trying to generate chords & progressions. Finally something that can sound realistic. Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback! ❤️
How did you route it in maschine?
At least with scaler you are not constrain to use the same chords type….what if you want to mix m7 with normal or sus chord…it does not make sens to me to write a chord progression strictly in one chord type configuration…
@@slowdivisionmusic You are definitely able to use any chord type/scale type within the same pattern.
I totally agree. I have them all and this replaces every one of them. Brilliant design. Even this video deserves an award!
"Time" Something ive been looking/waiting for in EVERY other chord plugin. Wow!!!!!
Finally! Competent musicians and competent programmers were united!
Now this is a great vid, very detail. The voicing sells its a killer. It makes you wanna buy.
Wonderful and thorough review! And very clear and well organized. Not a second waisted!
1st thought: just another... but, WTF!?!... damn mighty versatile, still user friendly and smart... Masterpiece!
Thanks for your feedback! ☝️
We need an official feedback page to Audiomodern . It's in it's infancy, shows great promise and hopefully won't go the scaler route of getting totally off track about what it is. Or isn't.
so true scaler is so confusing to use now that's why I'm here lol
Still a great app in 2024. Works wonderfully in iOS in a DAW or AUM in combination something like the Cem Olcay Bud apps, which can take the chords and chop them up into arps, strums, and other things, or any number of other apps that can accept MIDI input. Super easy to use and the ability to randomize settings selectively is unequalled by other chord generating apps.
Just picked this up. Looking forward to using
Nice video appreciated thanks so many options
Finally chord software that takes it to the next level! Definitely getting this!
Thank you for your feedback! ❤️
Digging into this right now and the tutorial is very helpful!
Man, this is amazing. Like.... A new universe is opened! Awesome
Hello Eric, thanks for your feedback!
Very nice. Thank you.
Wow. Another really well thought through tool with extensive options. Looking forward to trying this out.
I posted this to my FB group. facebook.com/groups/music.making.ideas
Thanks so much!
Just purchased this because of this video (and their filterstep rules). Played with it for 2 minutes and know I’ll never sleep again…
Thanks for the support, enjoy!
this is just actually insane
thank you for this amazing piece of software!
Thanks for your feedback. Your satisfaction is our reward!
@@audiomodern really impressive!
this thing is a cheat code ! i love
This app looks very powerful👏👏👏
This plugin is the best
Great video. Good to see exectly how it works. Off to the app store now to get it....
Thank you for your support!
👌🏾💯 this plugin is no longer a dirty secret”z” 🤣 great review bro ✌🏾
Remarkably useful app. Well done!
Thank you Brendon!
Amazing! Thanks. I always wonder how to control silences with ChordJam, or Scaler2, or Stochas, i'm into the idea (proved by studies in neuroscience) that silence is important. In our era and times, it seems to be a good thing to integrate in our aesthetics. Thanks man! Martin
best tools ever
Well recommend this VST..
Gonna buy this si hard
Hey, what the floating keyboard do you use? thanks
Hi,
Is there a "Key lock with chord extension to white keys" feature in Chordjam that can be used mostly for live performance?
It is basically playing the chord and then five white keys (in another octave) are automatically locked to the noted of SAME chord being played.
Therefore restricting to extended chord notes’ option that transposes the white keys to the notes of the chords played by the chord.
Thanks for asking this question can someone from Audiomodern please reply. This would be a real game changer.
Just bought this and really enjoying exploring it. Is there a way to audition the chords I'm entering into the sequencer? What I'd like to be able to do is click on chords in the sequencer (to edit them) and also to hear them played as I click on them. It would be nice if any change to the chord (such as voicing, chord type, etc) could be auditioned as well, so the different changes could be heard as they are made.
👍🏾🔥👍🏾
I just purchased, such as amazing tool! In my version, External MIDI Outputs don't have individual channel options as seen at 34:28 . How is is this done?
I don't get the option "chord type". I undestand root note or scale C for example and scale type Minor, but how is there a Major6 chord in a Minor scale?
I bought it but having trouble configuring it to work in Maschine.......
Looks like an amazing app, great video showing how powerful this is.
I wonder, will it work to control a bluetooth enabled synth over iOS bluetooth MIDI or do we have to go through wired via a midi interface ?
I use CME WIDI adapters on my synths, so being able to control them with the iPad bluetooth MIDI for composition with this app would be very convenient.
Hi, at the moment you can send MIDI over WiFi to any device, but Bluetooth could possibly be added to one of our updates!
@@audiomodern Thx for the reply. Then it's pretty close to become a perfect app :)
Now BT based solutions like WIDI work well with very low latency, BT over midi becomes a bit of a must for iOS apps.
I also own a Jupiter XM, it also begs to be tethered with this great app !
Can you put the pads in full screen to perform?
Amazing!
Has the ipad version all the features described in this video?
Hi, except the drag/drop feature which in not supported on all iOS versions for now, all other functionality is identical! ✌️
@@audiomodern excellent thanks
love it!! would be nice if chords in the scale are showed somewhere after you select the scale! :)
Thank you for your suggestion, we may include this to one of our updates!
@@audiomodern thanks so much!!! I got the "plugins" bundle and I'm loving all of them!!! ^_^
@@luklagrande Thanks for the support, enjoy! 🎲✌️
Can you export the sequence as a midi file in the ios version ? Does it work with daws such as GarageBand. ROLAND Zenbeats etc?
Export Midi file on iOS is coming with a quick update, it will be accessible from the preset manager. GarageBand does not (yet) support MIDI plugins like Chordjam, but will run on any DAW that supports MIDI plugins ✌️
Soooooo...you tellin me i can put an old 70s sample, bass, chord,or melody, and this vst will create the midi notes and give me 3 options of scales?.....you guys realize what u can do?
how do I throw the midi into my playlist
Question: is it possible to map pads or quick sequence buttons to a key range (instead of needing to use CC)?
Hi, this is a requested feature already, and we will add that option with our first update ✌️
@@audiomodern Awesome awesome. Keep up the great work.
Hello,I just get into Chordjam, but I'm struggling with mapping with Maschine. When I set up the MIDI I got only one sound of the pressing key.No chords, no randomising, nothing. Really don't know how to trigger chords with one click.
Hi, please reach out to our support team and we’ll help you out 👉 audiomodern.zendesk.com/hc/en-us
I've watched the videos, read many of the comments and decided to try. I've downloaded the file and was able to open the app separately hoping to use it with GarageBand (since it's functionality is similar to Logic) but can't see the plug-in. So, million-dollar question: Does this work with GarageBand?
Hi Chris, I don’t think GB supports midi plugins entirely as it lacks midi routing. Please reach out to us with your DAW version and we can check this out for you 👉 audiomodern.zendesk.com/hc/en-us
This app is great but it goes completely off the rails timing wise inside BeatMaker 3 when BM3 is using sync’ed to external MIDI clock. Any fix incoming?
Hello, please reach out to our support including your setup details/iOS version and we’ll be happy to help you out: audiomodern.zendesk.com/hc/en-us
Where is the setup for Machine?
Solid overview. Missing HOW to use it. The "in action" video also glosses over setting things up. Definitely need a How To, leveraging the complete overview, working toward the polished examples in the in action video.
Thanks for your suggestion, we will be publishing a course soon!
Agreed. There is the usefulness of this plugin? We have Scaler 2 etc. already. How this plugin can inspire random music maker?
@@DWestnik77 Hi, Chordjam is serving a totally different concept, here's a jam session with it: ua-cam.com/video/ieaPYWwToQ4/v-deo.html and a series of courses will follow!
These videos are more about explaining the features, if you wanna see how _I_ use it in my tracks there's this video: ua-cam.com/video/c4ait_HTS1Y/v-deo.html
Looks great! Is there a « drag and drop » feature for the chords that are triggered and/or sequenced within ChordJam, including the breakdown of each individual chord, not the just its trigger note, all the parameters such as voices, time and velocity levels, to export directly to a Logic Pro X midi track for example?
Yes there is. You can drag each chord that you play and/or the sequenced patterns directly into your DAW.
@@audiomodern Thanks! And by adding each chord you mean the actual chord with all the notes that makes it up, not just the trigger key, right?
@@chrisroyer Exactly
@@audiomodern Last question… All the parameters such as voices/time/velocity can be dropped as well?
@@chrisroyer of course. On the right side of the keyboard you can see two buttons named “Drag Chord” & “Drag Seq”. The first will allow you to drag the last played chord into your DAW with all of its settings.
Thanks for 64 steps. It would be great if we could sequence the quick load presets to gain more steps. Take a look at how pure acid by Jim audio allows you to sequence patterns by dragging and sliding on iOS.
Thanks for your feedback, at the moment you can change the quick-load presets via automation, but this is a welcomed addition and we will see if we can add that to our upcoming update.
It would be nice if you randomize the key scale it automatically chooses the right sounding scales thst fit with eachother
Hi, that depends on the style as any scale could potentially fit with each other. We can however add suggestions based on different genres. An alternative solution would be to use the trigger option(s)
Is this compatible with reason?
Great. Melodic expressions in arp please?
Great tool! Any plans to implement triplets and dotted values in the chord sequencer for the iOS version? It’s a part of the music for centuries. 😉
Thanks for the feedback, we’ll add both options on both Desktop and iOS versions!
@@audiomodern Nice. Thanks for the quick reply!
@@audiomodern How about adding chord voicings and chord inversions? Thanks.
@@TheMicrofox Hi, thanks for the feedback, this is already requested by a couple of other users so it will definitely be added to our upcoming updates ✌️
Changing Chord Voicings and Chord Inversions is an excellent and clear function in Cubase Pro 11. If I have my MIDI track in the project and I want to align this track with the other parts with regard to voicings and inversions or to arrange it in harmony with the other instrument tracks, I have fantastic and extremely clear options in the Cubase scale editor. That's why (personally) I don't necessarily miss this feature in ChordJam. Greetings from 🇩🇪
What makes me 50/50 is when you select "chord type" it effects every chord you play. Sometimes I want a basic C minor but a 7th on the next chord but if you choose to add 7ths it also applies it across the whole board.
Yes, you can do that by engaging the triggering option and select the chord types to include, then generate a chord pattern, or of course manually.
Regarding the chord pads: 1. Can I assign a chord to a pad simply by playing all the notes polyphonically on my midi keyboard and then clicking the appropriate pad? (This would be for using the app as a simply chord memorizer for people with some amount of keyboard fluency.) 2. Can I then play those pads with a single key on that same midi keyboard that I used to manually/polyphonically enter the full chords? 3. If the answer to (2) is yes, then let's say I have one of the pads assigned to be triggered by D2 on my midi keyboard. Then I decide to enter another chord by hand on the midi keyboard to assign to a different pad, but this chord includes the note D2 in it. Obviously I don't want to trigger the chord on the pad assigned to D2 when I'm entering this second chord. Is the app able to avoid this problem? Is there a way to toggle between chord-entry and pad-playing (though in this case the "pads" are just keys on the keyboard)? Thanks for answering questions here.
Hi, that is a really nice feature and can be done as you suggest by toggling between the two modes. We will make sure to bring this the soonest! ✌️
@@audiomodern Do those two modes exist in the app already? How do I switch between them? Or are you saying that would be a good way to implement the function in a future version?
@@herschoolcolors Apologies for the confusion, what i meant was that it is a nice suggestion and can add this concept to one of our updates! :)
Was going to purchase this, but your checkout option is not great. It gets stuck on "Paying" and then never completes it. Hopefully my credit card doesn't get charged...
Sorry to hear that, please reach out to us as we’d like to learn more 👉 audiomodern.zendesk.com/hc/en-us
Is it possible to change the chord type on each individual step in the sequencer?
Hi, yes and there are a few ways that you can do that. By saving different chord types manually, by editing each chord with your settings, or by enabling the trigger option on the chord type menu.
@@audiomodern Thanks
So can you explain the Chord Type at 2:50 a bit more? You select m9 but then the chords you play are m7, 7sus4, maj9, etc. So... what's going on? I'm guessing it generates a m9 chord from the root note, but then adjusts any notes that are out of key to the closest note in the scale. Is that correct? Is there a way to force it to play a chord type, even if some notes are out of key?
Hello 👋, you can select how you wish to work with Chordjam between Absolute or Relative keyboard pitch modes as explained at 34:50 . Hope this helps!
@@audiomodern Thanks for the quick reply! I understand how absolute and relative mode determine the root note of the chord. But where I'm confused is at 2:50, the minor 9th chord type is selected and then he plays a bunch of chords, none of which are minor 9th chords. So what exactly does chord type do?
@@DreamwareMusic In this case we use the Absolute Keyboard Mode, the scale is A#, and the Minor9 Chord type setting produces a Fm7b9 (on F key) which includes the following notes: F, E♭, C, A♭ & G♭ which is correct. However, In some cases the algorithm will try and adjust to the closest notes on the selected key, but you can 'bypass' this behavior when running on 'Chromatic' Scale Type.
@@audiomodern Ah that makes sense, thanks for explaining!
But how can it all be easily exported to the piano roll of a DAW after using this plugin?
Hi, you can use the two 'Drag' buttons which are on the bottom-right side of the Plugin (Drag Chord & Drag Seq). From there, you can export either the last played Chord and/or a Complete Sequence directly to your DAW with simple Drag-n-Drop. Hope this helps!
Had to buy it immediately. So much goodness. One thing confusing me, tho. It seems as though no matter what key is selected, the root note of the scale is always mapped to C on the keyboard. A little disorienting, but it does seem to be the case.
Hi, thanks for the feedback! You can change the behaviour of the keyboard between Absolute & Relative mode, it is explained at the end of this video.🎹✌️
@@audiomodern Thanks for that. I hadn't watched all the way to the end yet. Looking forward to some usage videos. Great product! I can sound like the jazz pianist I always dreamed of being.
A very good app,but i would have preferred a song mode as SUGGESTER,which would produce a song by drag and drop of the chords, and an adjustment of each chord in chord jam.
I notice that,in tutorials, few people use the sequencer
Hello Paul, thanks for your feedback. You can already do this by entering any desired chords/keys on the sequencer and adjusting/re-arrange them using random mode on the sequencer panel. Chordjam will suggest a different pattern, each time you click the randomize button, according to your input parameters. Here's how: ua-cam.com/video/_J40WV8VdRY/v-deo.html
@@audiomodern Thank you for the answer, BUT, it's always randomization......I want build a song with chords that I choosed and with their own setting.
I can have separate settings by chord without the sequencer, but I cannot build a song :)
@@stills111 Also possible, just toggle the random mode to progression mode , randomization will be bypassed and you will have access to additional chord settings and their playback order from the left tab. Of course you can tweak and edit each chord and their settings settings separately!
I would buy this immediately if it had standalone ability and some basic 'built in' sounds' like Piano/E.P.
This functionality would make it an excellent tool for musicians/vocalists to write or practice with - (without having to open a DAW every time).
Scaler 2 has some good 'built in' sounds, but no standalone! ...... (maybe one day somebody will get it right).
Hi, of course it comes with a standalone version and including a built in sound, like all of our apps do! ✌️
@@audiomodern
Say what now?!? 😲
I didn't buy it because I didn't see this functionality demonstrated anywhere.
What sound does it come with?
If it has a basic Piano or EP sound, I'll order it right now!!
@@ShynAwkward There is a default sound for quick previewing, feel free to grab the trial which also includes a standalone version to test it on your setup!

@@audiomodern Thank you so much... I own the full version, Thats how useful and awesome it is.... the mangic for me was importing a progression, wow,,,,,, not even scaler, thank you so much for this..
Great! I do not know anything about Music Theory and I am looking for a product like this one. I am sorry for the basic questions I have:
Once I set up a scale, like C Major, every single note I press in a 5 octave keyboard will produce a chord?
If so there will be duplicate chords across the keyboard? Like hitting the note C note and C note one octave below, will produce the same exact chord?
Basically in the C Major scale could I have a maximum of 7 different chords type since there are 7 notes?
Thanks a lot!
Hello 👋, This can be done too, but if you have engaged any of the various randomization or triggering options no two chords will ever be the same.
Feel free to grab the trial version and test it on your setup 👌
@@audiomodern thanks ;)
does this app have auv3 implementation on IpadOS/iOS?
Yes, it is an AUv3 midi plugin ✌️
@@audiomodern so... in cubasis 3, can it be inserted into the midi effect slot or on the midi instrument track or both?
@@audiomodern also can the pads be controlled by midi keys, rather than midi cc? Like in playbeat 3 you can switch the midi control for the pads between cc or keys.
@@mpfmax0 In Cubasis 2 or 3 you can add to to the Midi FX slot.
@@mpfmax0 Yes, you can do that from the settings tab. You will find a toggle that allows to assign a Pad to any key so you can have a custom setup too.
Can Chordjam use different voices, such as an electric piano? Ah! Now you mention exactly what I asked about! Well, sort of. It changes the chord voicings, but not the sounds being used.
It's midi - you can output the notes to any instrument you want
I like these kinds of AI programs that can turn one note into a chord. They do beautifully well, but I often find their sounds to be rather cold and unemotional. I used to use a lot of loops and other wav files rather than try to express the emotions that I wanted to produce. After a while, I realized that the emotions were not mine. They inhibited me from developing my own style of expression since I was relying on mechanical means rather than my own natural evolving abilities.
I have spent the time recently to do a deep dive into learning these chords and their progressions on my own rather than relying on less personal preset sounds. I am advancing slowly, almost glacially, but I am learning the natural chord progressions rather than cheating (I don't mean that as being dishonest, it's just not me doing the creative work). Using a preset or wav file to enhance my music is not the issue. If I use too much automation I am not evolving as a musician, I am evolving as an engineers or mixing artist. Not at all bad, but it's not conducive to making music based upon 'how I feel' rather than how the mechanical sound makes me feel.
I think my music and soundscapes are better when I rely on my own instincts rather than what the program is telling me to do. I am not a great pianist or synth player but I make music the best I can. If I do it by using my best efforts I feel as if I have accomplished more than just relying on an AI to generate sequences or grooves for me. Perhaps a 50/50 partnership is best for my purposes? That way I can create as well as generate.
Thanks for the feedback, currently Chordjam does not contain any sounds but you can use it as a MIDI app to “feed” any of your synths, samplers or other modules. Here’s a jam session with it 👉 ua-cam.com/video/ieaPYWwToQ4/v-deo.html
I'm enjoying Chordjam so far, but the first things that occur to me are; 1. No chord inversions? and, 2. User defined arpeggios would be good.
Hi, 1. You can create chord inversion from the "Voices" tab (+/-12), or is it that you'd prefer to include inversion presets? 2. User defined arpeggios is on our "to-do" list!
@@audiomodern That's not really what I'm seeing. Setting voice 1 to -12 just puts a root note an octave down. What I'm looking for is, on pressing C, I could specify a first inversion E-C-G or second inversion G-C-E. Maybe this could be achieved by expanding the voices options to -4 for 1st inversion and -6 for 2nd inversion (I think that's right). Or dedicated button. I guess if you made it variable from -1 thru -12 you would also be able to do slash chords, e.g. with descending bass.
@@kurtklingklang5918 Understood, we will try to add this to our first update!
@@audiomodern Brilliant! Thanks for taking the time to respond.
I wish these tools were a little smarter and showed not only a bunch of random chords thrown together, but actually suggested next chords by harmonic function.
That, and i'm tired of every one of these videos using weird D#add9sus13/5sus53 chords instead of simple minor/major chords with which i can build an actual meaningful progression, rather than a "groove" or a "beat".
Hi, yes Chordjam can suggest a progression by selecting the presets of the Sequencer, and here is a musical example using less complex chord types: ua-cam.com/video/ieaPYWwToQ4/v-deo.html
