The hardest thing to do in comedy is come across as stupid. Johnny Alan Davies have that down to an art and it's so so well done and both are very funny and clever comedians

SuperSonicBlur Acting stupid isn’t that hard though. Making it funny is. And Vegas, Davies and Joe alike are all quite smart. They’re just really good at having a laugh at their own expense

Jimmy does great one-liners and punchlines, but not enough people give him credit for the - often fantastic - dry improv lines. So good.
It's a bit hard to tell whether they are his, whether he thought of it many takes later or whether a writer has come up with it and he was told to use it after asking her a question. The end effect is generally pretty funny but I don't think that we can attribute it to him completely, as it is likely a big team putting it together.
If you ever get to see him live, you will notice that he's really great at audience interaction. Although a small percentage of audience interaction can be predicted, his prowess at it really shows how good he is at improv.
I found out Frankie Boyle wrote a lot of his early comedy recently, which explains why I always thought it sounded weird coming from him. I like this Jimmy more

Joe's come-from-behind win was the best moment in the history of this show.
I dont know why this show is so much better than normal Cats but it really is, near the level of Would I Lie to You, and better than Mock the Week if you ask me
The Crab Person Would I Lie is fucking ridiculous. It's just a nicer format. Verbal thuggery at it's best. I don't know what makes this format better than normal Cats. Maybe it's because the focus is not to perform so the performances have more room to sparkle.
This is also better than the original Countdown.
It's mainly the guests, I think. Cats Does Countdown guests are almost exclusively professional comedians, whereas regular Cats has more 'celebrities'. Also CDC goes for more outlandish humour, whereas regular Cats sticks more to topical chat.
True, but I think it's really Jon, Jimmy and Sean who really shine, and Rachel and Susie are actually really good humoured
Part of it must be that they have a GREAT writing staff. The guests get provided with some amazing props and skits and I assume they work with whichever celebrity mans Dictionary Corner to give them something fun to do.
But I think it's also the genuine competitive element. I'm kind of tired of the many panel shows where the points are either arbitrary and don't matter (Mock the Week, Room 101) or obviously fake because the whole thing's scripted to hell (8 out of 10 Cats, Never mind the Buzzcocks). Having the guests have to make an effort to win adds a lot of unexpected humor.
I just realized that Sean Lock looks SO MUCH like Gruncle Stan from Gravity Falls

People are aware that Johnny Vegas is an act right? He made the persona for his comedy. He is actually a highly skilled individual.

The lesson to be learnt today is, when you get on that high horse of yours, there's always going to be someone who sits taller in the saddle.
theres a wiki page with all of the series and episodes listed with whos on them and if you make a 4 on demand account you can watch them for free (the only irritating part is that you have to watch them like theyre on the tv and sit through the ad breaks)

I'm also a great fan and so is my son who went to see him live recently. He told me BB is still doing stuff he saw him do on TV ages and ages ago. Time, apparently, BB, for a whole new show.
Johnny actually does have a background in the arts-- he's an accomplished ceramicist, and I imagine in all those classes there was a live drawing one somewhere.
The episode with Joe winning is legendary.
