- Welcome to my boxbreak for Spider-Man Metal trading cards from Upper Deck, released under their SkyBox label.
6 cards per pack, 12 packs per box.
200 card base set, with 101-200 being short printed high series cards.
Upper Decks pull odds are amess again, maybe I'll add them later.

Great review. I watched a few of these unboxing and the way a lot of reviewers would rave over these cards, I would wonder to myself are we looking at the same card. The Daily Bugles look like business cards you get from vista print.

Totally agree with the Daily Bugle inserts. God, what a horrible idea. And here are the reasons why: First, the image of the character it features is SMALLER than a regular card, and less elaborate or interesting. Second, the border is just a matte, unreadable newspaper theme... no artistry, no information, nothing. Third, you can't enjoy the card fully without unfolding it, which means once it's in a collector's environment, you can't show it off without taking it out of the safe sleeve. Fourth, even if you had a safe place for it, a crease in a card is a terrible idea to begin with, as it will wear with time each time you unfold it. Fifth, and probably most important, IT HAS NO METAL ON IT. It's a freaking metal themed set. Just a stupid, stupid idea.

I know that it's from the original books, but still a lot of bad choices and also not very consistent. While some of the art is from first appearances, that's not always the point.

I would assume there are printing plates of those out there, but they're super rare.
Doing faux printing plates for these as inserts would have been a lot more interesting.

I really appreciate the honest reviews and I think you're exactly hitting the nail on the head with your observations on these upper deck metal sets. Upper deck knows that people are going to pay whatever they charge and demand is going to skyrocket due to FOMO and resellers hoping to hit pay dirt with a PMG or other limited card so who gives a Sh!t at Upper deck about quality control and the art??? absolutely no one. It's only when the market will take a huge nose dive will they actually acknowledge that changes need to be made and the art needs to be better for that premium price.

this is why Marvel needs to allow other companies to make cards for them. Competition will clear this up
Exactly my sentiments, hopefully Upper Deck will loose the license or other companies will be allowed to also produce Marvel cards. Otherwise this hobby will be dead again in a few years.

I’ve watched a couple box openings, and I’m not impressed either. I don’t care for the way trading cards are sold now days. It’s like opening physical loot boxes. Pay money for the chance at a card that is worth money. Doesn’t anyone collect the sets anymore? The 90’s boxes were so much better…

I agree 100%. I’ve heard from so many people they say they just throw away the base cards. Deep down they really pisses me off. EPack won’t even ship you the base cards. It’s complete bullshit.

I'd suggest picking better ones. Marvel has a insane library of images from amazing artists.
The artwork is mostly just questionable picks and for some reason they are also awfully cropped from the original artwork.

They are terrible my friend, I mean some are cool. But all in all I feel your pain.
If he finds out how much just 2 of those cards are worth in his rare box, he wouldn't be feeling any pain. He actually hit a card in this box that's worth more than the box. It's rare, but it happens. That Ghost Spider PMG is worth quite a bit. Then, he hit a Black Widow /50 on top. Like he got about $1200 USD just from those 2 cards so not much pain here.
Overall though, I wouldn't buy any of these boxes at the current price as they are overpriced and his box is super rare. Most boxes, you wouldn't even get back 1/4 of the box value.

The problem is that I'm not a hit chaser. I know that I could recoup my money from this box, but I want the sets in general to be good and I want a chance at a base set for a fair price.

I know, I had good luck on this box. Still doesn't make me like the set.
I get it, it's an expensive product. But these cards are very nice imo. HUGE improvement over the X-Men set. A few of the card images aren't the best, but they are few in comparison to the whole set. Art is subjective I get that. But the negativity coming from your review is a bit ridiculous. I mean u were bashing the box art for Pete's sake. If you didn't think it was worth it you didn't have to buy it. Most of the comments in this section are just people who are being overly critical as well because they more than likely don't have a box for themselves.🤷♂️
Also your venom isn't a gold, so a little bit of product research wouldn't hurt either😁

Why does his personal break trigger you so much? If you can’t see this product is over hyped from the other content peeps. Sorry you are blind. I will keep my boxes sealed and chase singles and epack because that is more affordable than these overpriced and overhyped hobby boxes.
Thanks for the critique. I guess I really went into this with a negative bias and felt that it was warranted while I opened the box. I'm very critical of the way Upper Deck is handling their Marvel license at the moment because I feel that in the long term this hurts the hobby.
But I'm glad you like the set even if I don't.
Good to know that the Venom isn't a gold parallel. I avoid too much research before breaking a box because I don't want to be spoiled.

I am NO WHERE near the kind of card collector that you are, but I do notice that in these recent years they tend to use basic art from comics for their cards. Didn’t they hire cool artists in the past to do art for card sets? Just using art from comics, comic panels, is kind of boring imo.
Yeah they are called marvel masterpieces, fleer ultra, marvel anime, marvel unbound and many more use original art … 2023 should bring more of those sets.

I would argue that for some sets it's okay to use old art, but they always seem to pick the worst images from the gigantic pool of art they could choose from.

I miss the days when Marvel cards had original artwork and were reasonable prices (like $1-2 a pack). Modern sets are so dull and expensive.

Do you think it's worth it at $750-$850 (CAD) per box? When it first released in Canada it was already at $730 CAD and I felt it wasn't worth it. So I didn't end up buying any =(
Makes me regret not getting more Metal Marvel Universe (X-Men) because I got one at $200 CAD previously.
It's a gamble, you're basically hit chasing at this price. You need to pull a PMG from a popular character to recoup your money. Most other breaks I've seen the breakers didn't even come close to this value with what they pulled. I would not recommend these boxes at more than 200$.

I would argue that at a premium price the packaging should reflect that. Masterpieces for example have really nice boxes. I get that it's not necessarily needed since it's the content that counts, but if you look at anything that is considered a premium retail product the packaging reflects that.
But then I could probably argue that this is not a premium product, it's just sold for the price of a premium product.

Just a fyi... That Ghost Spider (Spider-Gwen) Precious Metal Gems is probably worth around $1k USD. That's regardless if this box cost $200 or $600. That is one of the most popular Marvel characters and with Into the Spider-Verse 2 coming out next year, that card is likely going to rise more by then.
I agree that the prices for these boxes are ridiculous and UD is almost always bad at quality control, but that PMG of Ghost Spider is absolutely fire. I'd get that graded (if it looks like at least a PSA 9). You also got a Black Widow /50, which is worth like almost 1/3 the price of the box (at $500). Anyways, I'm going to hold out until these hit E-pack where the price will likely be less than half of what boxes cost now.

@@randomcollector2353 I actually decided to "rainbow" the Mysterio high series card because I thought the art on that one was cool and it wouldn't break the bank. I know I'm a sucker for basically buying 10 different colors of the same card, but I didn't buy a single box! WAY too expensive.

@@randomcollector2353 Yea I like to collect sets but the way they make these modern sets it makes it basically impossible, with all the parallels and e-pack achievements or whatever, so I just went the character collecting route. Been fun so far. Although I went with a C-tier character because going after someone like Venom or Wolverine is INSANELY EXPENSIVE.

The Daily Bugle cards are dumb as shit. I’ve heard people say they think they are cool but I don’t get it. Honestly I though I was the only one that though they were stupid. Glad I’m not. The grandiose cards are awesome. Those are my favorites. If I could get a whole set of those I would be happy.
The fact that The Punisher and The Fantastic Four can’t be a part of this set cause of licensing pissed me off
I can’t figure out why they would put Magneto, Mr. Sinister, Beast, and a bunch of other characters in there that have almost nothing to do with Spider-Man.
I’m not spending $600 a box on these. I’ve been hunting Targets and Walmarts multiple times a day for the $30 blaster boxes. I’ve been searching for about a week and can’t find any and I think I’m gonna give up and just do ePack. I don’t like ePack cause they don’t ship you the base cards from what I understand but apparently that’s the only way I’m gonna be able to get a box without paying a ridiculous amount of money. I’m not happy with upper deck at all. Not being able to get these cards at a reasonable price really pisses me off. Especially flippers selling the blaster for double the price of retail. I’m so close to giving up card collecting altogether. It’s just really starting to feel like it’s not even worth it.

I’ve watched a fair number of his breaks and he generally seems to take little pleasure in doing it. Entirely up to him of course.
He ain’t pumping and overhyping the set… he truly opens for his enjoyment and gives honest critique. Refreshing compared to other content that just praises Upperdeck no matter what. Glad he was the first marvel card set collector to hit 1k subs. Don’t Change. Haters watch the content even more.
