Yes, despite the signs Newcastle appears to be Vanlife Friendly. Happy to say Newcastle is awesome!

Leave a comment- do you think Caravan Parks are overcharging for unpowered sites?

In New South Wales there’s no law against sleeping or living out of your car, though it’s important to make sure you are parked where it’s legal to do so.
There are many locations around NSW that have signage stating “No Camping Allowed”, and while you could argue that you’re not camping if there’s no tent or campfire, it’s best to simply abide by any such signage.
However, keep in mind that there are also some councils that regulate so-called “illegal car park camping” - trendy areas on the NSW North Coast have a zero-tolerance attitude towards camping in car parks, because if it were legal, everyone would do it and the local amenities would be overwhelmed.

In Queensland, the rules are pretty black-and-white about what is considered camping.
Living or sleeping in a vehicle is technically camping, so if you plan to partake in that, you need to do so in a designated camping area. Queensland is arguably the strictest Australian state for this interpretation.
The Queensland Government says it has over 450 rest areas that, while not camping sites, can be used for up to 20 hours unless signed otherwise.

Just wait until they start using thermal cameras to record evidence of camping.

Parks are good for catching up with your washing - ended up paying $90 one night in Jarvis Bay. Waste of money there.

Not if you're referring to a Commander 4x4 Expedition vehicle, you don't. They are over 4.5T and 7.5m long which means while people inside vans and cars driven on a car license can simply ignore any knocking, you'll get a fine under your wiper regardless of whether you answer that knock or not - for parking over an hour in a "built up area." Maybe you'll get away with it on weekends but not Mon-Fri.

Maybe that explains why the lady with the large motor home had removed her number plates. Rules for HR vehicles are different.

@@stayawesome that maybe a good idea, removing the plates, never thought about it, can't fine you without plates
