    I sing of a maiden
    That is makeless;
    King of all kings
    To her son she ches.
    He came all so still
    Where his mother was,
    As dew in April
    That falleth on the grass.
    He came all so still
    To his mother's bower,
    As dew in April
    That falleth on the flower.
    He came all so still
    Where his mother lay,
    As dew in April
    That falleth on the spray.
    Mother and maiden
    Was never none but she;
    Well may such a lady
    God's mother be.
    Words, xv century
    Music, patrick hadley

    I love this piece, one of the most beautiful and haunting Christmas songs I've ever heard.

    Dear Chandilah and Spiritdei ... late father J-M R Tillard, o.p. talk to his students in Ottawa, Canada so many times about the beauty of the songs in KCC and I dream to see and ear the lessons! Big kisses of gratitude from QUÉBEC but only ... in french! lol XOX

    The final note has a nice decrescendo.

    As a fairly new and traditional Catholic Third Order SSPX, I am learning to pronounce the Middle English as from the Latin and from the etymology. Immaculate Mary, here mentioned as I sing of a Maiden, Makeless. Pronounced Mac as in MacKintosh. Immaculate is without stain, spot or blemish. In Latin, mark and mac are related meanings and root words I guess.

    Hello Chandilah, You are welcome! In some Order of Service booklets Kings state they reserve the right to change the order slightly to accommodate television requirements. Also, there is separate service held live on Christmas Eve, this although similar, is different from the pre-recorded service shown on television.
    I actually have the scripture readings which I plan to upload and include in the playlist. Your mentioning them encourages me to complete that task soon.

    Though a song for the annunciation, this is, along with the Shepherd's Farewell (Berloiz) one of my favourite pieces to contemplate, during Remembrance, the conscripts and others who suffered in the First World War and the Second. We will remember them.
