wow... i love watching players like him... its inspiring how effortless it seems. in this day and age electric guitars are so prevalant that people forget what can be accomplished with an fine acoustic in skilled hands. the use of feedback in the last part was incredible, hendrix would be proud
True, but there are a ton of players who have no "discomfort zone"; it is something you can work on and overcome if you put in the time. What blows my mind about Monte, is his musical mind; the way he covers this fantastic song is unreal, original, and I have no doubt, would make Jimi ecstatic. He is the Little Wing master imo; better than anyone I've heard, including the man himself, which is astounding. His flawless integration of harmonics and controlled feedback is stunning.
he was the first dude i ever saw use distortion on an acoustic guitar!!! i remeber there were some lake parties that a bunch of us musicians would attend and seriously just party for weeks!!! i got to see monte perform solo, just him and his strat at these parties,,,, it was raw but awsome!!!!
First time I have heard this guy. Where has he been hiding? The man is a monster player. I think that this is the best rendition of this song I have ever heard. Better than SRV or Hendrix, or Clapton.
This was in Luckenbach, Texas. About 40 miles north of San Antonio. As far as T.V. goes, he is working with Tim Allen on his current series Last Man Standing.
:O Wow! That technique...absolutely beautiful Truly inspirational...I feel as though I've been ambling about the shadows of guitar playing for ten years and finally some new light... Just beautiful.
this is one of the all time great renditions of one of the greatest pieces of music ever written. Something about "little wing"- everyone covers it. Check it out. Like everyone has to do "little wing". But this version on acoustic guitar is masterful. Thanks gtr67 for the upload and THANK YOU to Mr.Montgomery.
@Wiredrawn173 You would be wrong lol. I've seen him live several times, if that guitar had electric strings on it, it'd be a complete and total noodlefest.
monte says he created the acoustic monster. he can play just as good on electric.but he says he does't have to play electric because he plays acoustic this good. he has some paul reed smiths.i dont' think him playing electric would sit real well with the fans thats been with him so long. he is great seen him a few times signed my alverez 6 & 12 strings hes a real good dude he'll cut up with you.
he must change the strings after every session lol. when he presses on the headstock to make the pitch shift, is that the neck shifting? how does that work?
He kicks ass in every fret position... that's what I don't get. I mean, most good guitarists can play well anywhere, but they still tend to gravitate towards a comfort zone. This guy just doesn't even give a fuck.
LOL-and I'm not lying. I'd say you walk the fine line between funny and tasteless, but I'd be lying; you are way over the line into tasteless, but still funny. ;)
Monte...someone else has posted this video of you. I gave it up a long time ago like you asked just so you know. I respect you too much to post this again under a different name. This video may never die, dude. Sorry.
Monte does a VERY good job balancing the mind blowing lead stuff with the mind blowing tasteful stuff...an honorable musician indeed I think.
top 50 in Guitar Magazine..2005.. still bringin it..mighty strong. Dont slow down Monte,
chill out, come out, and meet your fans!
Far away, in Belgium, Tears in my eyes...so beautiful...Hope one day to see this virtuoso somewhere in Europe.

He is so good he is scarrrrrry! Love it.
I brought my bother-in-law who plays acoustic. He was amazed to hear an acoustic guitar create those sounds. His finale was of course Little Wing
Magic captured on film.
Best Little wing version out there! Amazing playing here by Monte.

Freak of nature....in the best way possible
if you have not seen Monte live, you owe it to yourself to do so, the looks of slack jawed amazement are well worth the price of admission

I just don't see how he gets those sounds from an acoustic guitar. He's great. One of my favorite songs ever.
Who setup that guitar?
WOW!
this guys a badass... if you can do that on an acoustic youre the man!
Why have I never heard of this guy until today?
I'm surprised this video is still out there, Ron and I did the sound and have the multitrack recording.
This guy is amazing. Looks how his uses the harmonics in the first 30 seconds along with the modes. Hendrix is ROLLING in his grave, (in a good way)
Close, but not quite... Luckenbach Dance Hall in Luckenbach, Texas.
Holy hell..... really?....... I mean really? This is so good that I feel sick.

@WesleynGalles stop trollin' so hard man. he's making that acoustic scream!
...and he uses an acoustic guitar for his stuff, man that amazes me....
I do not do drugs (of any kind) and i literally got high the first time hearing this.

Please someone tell me.. what mode or arpeggio scale is he playing on top of each chord..
I'd love some tabs for 1:20-1:30. Brilliant
Worth repeating.
neeto!
Monte: * millions picks / second * Bass player : single pick, single pick, single pick :)
ok, i didn't understand that it's not you... ok but that guy is a perfect player...
Wow! Have you got a name for your guitar?
i got the rock and roll
Earned

the K.Y. Jelly man shreds ten times harder and could use twenty times more harmonics
Not Impressed : (
I thought I could probably make a nice clock out of my guitar.
why does it have to cut off at the end!!!!
Steve Via of acoustic
where was this performed? Looks familiar.
dude you are so right! if your going to do something do it with passion and conviction..
If he wasn't such a pudgeball then maybe America would have been able to get off to him...as it were, it's just us music-lovers who can appreciate...
LOL-and I'm not lying. I'd say you walk the fine line between funny and tasteless, but I'd be lying; you are way over the line into tasteless, but still funny. ;)
that is, actually, what makes the difference between "I play guitar" and "I live guitar"
make them 5....
3:22 ,goes electric.
Oh fuck..... there is a glitch in The Matrix!
Monte...someone else has posted this video of you. I gave it up a long time ago like you asked just so you know. I respect you too much to post this again under a different name. This video may never die, dude. Sorry.
I see the Texas flag in the background. Where was this shot, and why isn't this guy on Leno and Conan?
Me: doing nothing
UA-cam algorithm: Watch this video uploaded 16 years ago
Hmmm, Haynes seems to have a man on his side now
wouldn't be surprised if those are electric guitar strings
make them six
someone get this man a stratocaster... can you imagine the shimmering musical carnage he could create
well, i think i'll just put my guitar down and sell it on ebay now
6:54 okay somethings definetly wrong with this guy :P
Im gonna be "That guy"....Why the heck doesn't guy get an electric and try this?
Probably too young. This guy has listened to Hendrix a few times. You ken?
he´s so fucking fast and lax ...
just a suspicion but i dont think monte is completely human.
Great guitar but sometimes you need to leave in some of the melody.
Nah ! He eats guitar and spits out music
