Across the Sound in CT, I've had some pretty good days with crappie while bank fishing ponds and smaller lakes and reservoirs, as long as usual spots aren't frozen. Chain pickerel were very active and darting in on a stack of small bluegills just before this cold weather returned. Yellow perch are usually feeding on sunfish no bigger than 2" around drop offs and females are pregnant this time of year.
My #1 go-to light tackle lure for multi-species during the colder months is the Rapala Husky Jerk HJ-6. Yellow Perch, Glass Minnow, and Helsinki Shad are the top colors. Giving it 2 to 4 small twitches followed by pausing for 3 to 6 seconds after getting it down about a foot gets yellows and crappie to shoot up from a few feet down. Flipping it around structure and quick drop offs in warmer coves, spring-fed areas, and areas that get plenty of sun are the perfect spots.

Yeah i don't know if you want to really harvest any fish from our freshwater lakes, maybe only just the stocked trout after they been stocked since we know they were fresh from the hatchery. Tight lines and thanks for watching!
