They would have lost like 5 or 6 episodes of material if they offed Flynn. Think of all those breakfast scenes they would have had to scrap.

True but still liked how they decided to Flynn around anyways

Killing off Walter junior would have lessened the impact of Hank's death by miles. Hank's death was first in the family and it destroyed Walter. You cannot destroy a person twice at least not in a tv show..
have you seen The Shield and Sons of Anarchy? yes you can
The shield and sons of anarchy are two different shows and im specifically talking about Breaking Bad. I won't be able to explain why but Im damn sure the impact would hve lessened. Vince Gilligan never over did anything thats what is great about this show and thats why it has higher ratings than sons of anarchy and the shield or any other except Game of thrones.
Drake XBL yup and you can never guess whats the build up is all about. If you watch Better Call Saul too the build up to discrediting Saul Goodman's brother was amazing and it blew my mind how they executed it.
Ned stark , robb stark, and the little kid all died
abraham limarga, Ned stark's death was very impactful. Rob stark's death was unexpected but you never really rooted for Rob. Again GOT is totally different stuff we are talking about life of Walter white and the impact of Hanks death in his journey, It significantly changed Walter.
Vince Gilligan also wanted Walt to inject Jane with more heroin so she would overdose and die, but the others on the team outvoted it.
So, third of the time Vince had a suggestion, everyone was like "Calm down, satan".
Walt probably would. Considering he injected poison into brock.
Later in the series he would but I don't think he'd do it that early on. You could see that he wanted to save her and struggled quite a bit with the decision but ultimately didn't for Jesse's sake.
I was expecting that in that scene, actually. WW had that inclination when he was in the room staring at her, you could tell. So, why not go ahead and write it in? Comical the other writers didn't want to take WW too far. As if the other stuff wasn't too far lol
@Adithya Nair Nonetheless he did order a hit on 10 people in prison, and eventually Jesse. So I'm almost certain if the Jane scenario happened in season 5 Walter would've been much more directly involved in Jane's death than he was.
@@jdiejejerje661 also that overdosing is a quick process and i think its basically impossible
imagine if Walter Jr just happened to get into the wrong crowd looking for validation, gave into peer pressure and tried blue meth and got hooked all without Walt knowing. Then ends up Over Dosing because of Heisenbergs blue meth. Walter cooked meth to support his family and son after he dies, and in the end its the meth thats ends his sons life before his.
Dang. That would've been pretty awesome.
Interesting, but a little contrived
ha yea i dont think i would have fit the scope of the show, and i do like the current ending better. But i think it would have shined a little more light on the a different perspective of the product hes making. Instead of him just seeing his product as dangerous because of its illegality ( and also he heavily romanticizes and is addicted to the the thrill and excitement of it all), he would see the actual outcome of what his product actually does and the destruction that methamphetamine actually inflicts to the people that use it, especially in New Mexico where the narcotic use and addiction rate is one of the highest in the countries.....But that would have been wayyy too depressing.
That's Shakesperean level irony.
It's a bit on the nose

I totally thought they were going to kill off Jr. via a car crash of some kind - they spent so much time on him learning to drive, showing that he uses both feet to use the pedals... red herring!
i thought he was gonna try meth and drive and get in a wreck in his new car lol
Erin McLaughlin to be honest I thought it was just a way of showing Walt’s absence and desire to control the affairs of his family
@@Greigames ^
That's all standard fair for teaching someone to drive.
I thought he was gonna get jumped in finale by the guys from the clothing store in the 1st season
I have a suspicion that Vince Gilligan is actually just Anthony Fantano wearing a toupee.

I think it would have been a cool twist if Walt Jrs friend Lewis was selling Walt Jr the blue meth the whole time without Walter knowing.
oh that would've been so cool
i always thought jesse would somehow kill him especially because they never met and it would ve been a cool storyline
I think they're the only two main characters who didn't meet , was kind of upset,
Wouldn’t make sense in the story. Walt Jr. didn’t show any signs of meth addiction. And Hank is a DEA agent, Lewis would never be dumb enough to sell to the nephew of a DEA agent
Thomas Thas it's either genius or a huge missed opportunity to not have the two sons of Walter White actually meet. One his biological son and the other the one always wanted
If he was in the Walking Dead writer's room they would have been like "that's a great idea!"
Nah twd is fake ruthless tbh. Just kill people for the shock aspect rather than actual dramatic effect. Is a shame what happened with that show

I actually wish Vince killed off Walt’s son. That way, Walt would know how costly his drug empire was.
for anyone wondering, the idea of jr’s death that vince pitched to the writers was in season 1, where somebody (supposedly tuco) kills jesse, walt then kidnaps the killer and tortures him for killing jesse, keeping him in the crawl space below the white residence. however, walt rigs a tripwire to a shotgun, so to end the killers suffering has to engage the tripwire. one day junior is home and hears something in the crawl space and goes to investigate, the killer then lures jr close to him to free him, and then triggers the tripwire, killing them both. you can read more about it in one of those breaking bad iceberg videos.
edit: the only reason jesse’s death didn’t happen was because of the writers strike in 2008 which resulted in season 1 being shortened to 7 episodes instead of 9, thus convincing vince that jesse’s character wasn’t developed enough to be killed off yet. ultimately jesse’s character became a fan favourite and so integral to the story that vince scrapped his idea of killing him completely, thus also getting rid of the walt jr death too.
you’re partially right about the Jesse thing. It wasn’t that Vince wasn’t convinced he was developed enough, it was that he was just simply blown away by Aaron Paul’s performance and likability.
fun fact: originally after Walt Jr dies, Skyler and Walt lose the house and have to stay in a shitty motel and one night when Walt comes home he was going to find Skyler had slit her wrists inside their bathtub and bled out. Thus, all three deaths would have been connected like dominoes.
@@DeathbatOfSpades so basically the show was planned out for walt to cause the death of his immediate family and more
@classic max yea vince was going to kill off either walt jr, hank, or jesse in the s1 finale as a ballsy way to end the season, ultimately the writers strike forced them out of it due to the shortened season, vince said in an interview that the strike saved the show because it blocked one of those characters from dying, as well as gave them more time to plan out s2 onwards
@@DeathbatOfSpadesmakes me appreciate the show more hearing that

hi, hector
Well Walter did it for the family
Okay but seriously IMO Junior played a very pivotal role in the final season that I feel is underrated. His viewpoint as an unaware outsider to the meth operation helped contextualize the sheer scope of how hard everything comes crashing down in the end. Junior gets pigeonholed as the "breakfast guy" but that scene in Ozymandias with him protecting Skylar was integral to showing how evil Walt had become.
“Breakfast guy” 😂
Walt jr. was very much a kill-able character. I'm actually surprised that they didn't go that route. Unfortunately for Walt jr., when they decided to keep Jesse Pinkman around, it eliminated a good portion of his intended role and he ended up being a challenging character for the show to know what to do with.
What was his intended role

The fact that none of his family was killed for most of the show just adds to the suspense throughout the entire thing tbh cus you watch it waiting for smthn bad to finally happen to them with so many of the threats that exist it just makes every part of the plot all the more impactful

Junior thinking walt is some kind of monster after finding out he's heisenberg is so painful and worse than him dying
If jr. died Walter could not have said "I won"
Its so crazy to see the actors up on stage laughing about something that they were able to make seem so real.
I'm pretty sure he explained this pitch on an episode of the Breaking Bad Insider Podcast. I want to say it was a pitch for Season 2, maybe even back when they were planning to have Tuco kill Jesse off at the end of Season 1, and Tuco was going to be the main antagonist for the entire second season. That was before Season 1 got cut short due to the 2007-08 Writer's Guild Strike.
If I recall correctly, the pitch was that the flashforwards throughout the season would have Walt carrying a bleeding briefcase through the desert, and the reveal at the end of the season would be that Tuco killed Walt Jr., and then as revenge Walt would capture and imprison Tuco somewhere, and periodically visit to torture him by cutting off parts of his body. Obviously it was way too dark and way too soon to make Walt that evil, and none of the other writers were on board.
some of vince's old ideas kind of make me want to imagine like.. a darker version of breaking bad
Honestly, it wouldn't be such a big loss. Not bashing the actor here, just the character.
He was worthless character after season 2 aside froma moment or two in season 4 like when Walt calls him Jessie when he's drugged( I think )
It would have caused Walt to completely give up and the show would end. Walt loved his son and killing him off to soon would not have been a good story decision. In the last few episodes....maybe but at that point I don't find it necessary.
MrOAKIL246 He had a baby daughter to fight for. I'd love to see him go. Even a potato was more interesting than "Flynn".
But then who would eat breakfast?
But think of all the breakfasts that would've been lost
I just watched the entire series for the FIRST time, without knowing anything. A nd I was convinced that Walt Jr was going to be killed in an auto accident. I had imagined so many hints suggesting this was going to be the case.
“No more breakfast kid”
[gunshot]
[cut to black]
[end credits]
What a cast! It takes great eye just to pool these kind of talent in one show...
That Jimmy and Gus colab who just refuses to stop is brilliant
It's insane just how eaely Vince wanted walt to fully snap compared to the more methodical and slower approach that we got. I have no clue how the show would've gone had this have happened and I can't imagine the show going for too long either. Makes you wonder what the next season could've been without jesse and Walt jr and with walt being the breaking bad universe equivalent of jigsaw. I couldn't imagine skyler, hank or marie finding out without knowing the detail that it was a wired shotgun trap that killed him in which definitely would've brought some attention I'm sure.
Can't help but have a curiosity about the original intended version of Walter white and his journey had this all have happened as early as the first season. Would've been darkly humoures for walt had to make up a big lie about the shotgun killing of flynn and how he didn't even know about the drug dealer being in the crawl space
Thank you Connan. I really love this show yay!!
I’m so glad they did this on Conan
This show is like no other...the world that Gilligan created with the characters. Breaking bad was and is television gold! I'm constantly revisiting it...
If Walt Jr has his own spin off it would be called Breakfast Bad
More like, Breaking Fast.
That would have reduced their breakfast budget by nearly 90%.
Thanks to those Writers team who put sense into Gilligan and also for not causing a Riot.
bob odenkirk needs more appreciation forreal
Bryan Cranston's performance in this series might be the greatest acting of all time. absolutely impeccable.
I would’ve rioted. Love that guy.
I like that Vince Gillian didn't play dictator in the writers room. Sometimes you need some feedback to figure out what the best course of action is when writing.

You’re not a real lawyer.
John C the truth is... you’ve never mattered all that much to me.
That would've been a scene were I'd ask whose cutting onions man
The writing in this show was so good that it was overwhelming
I glad they didn't kill him. If he died that would diminish Walt's victory at the end.
I think both Skylar & Jr should have been kidnapped by Fring's men and held hostage to ensure Walt continues cooking for him without causing issue. Walt devises a master plan to free them all, but during the escape, Jr is killed.
but then skylar would turn walt in and that's the end of the show.
Where can I watch the whole of this?
RJ Mitte must be the first actor to suggest they off his character, lol. I'm glad they didn't, that scene in the kitchen when Walt and Skyler fight and Walt ends up kidnapping Holly wouldn't have been the same without Walter Jr. present. That was one of my favorites scenes of the show ever.
I wish it could be an endless series
There's a local radio DJ who does this celebrity square game but he does all the voices. He is very talented name John Holmberg.Anyways one time one of the squares was Walt Jr.
LOL
He basically just kept calling the callers "LIARS!"...and kept saying "You killed Uncle Hank!" in Walk Jrs beauftul voice in his answers omg.It is radio gold.
If Walter Jr died, then the entire show would have to be rewritten since Walter just lost half of his motivation to cook.
At the end it wasn't for his family. It was for his empire.
I used to think, because of Game of Thrones success while it was following the source material of one author, George Martin, That having one singular direction or tone, etc. is what makes a story so good and that once you have a room full of writers, you begin to lose the identity of the individual that wrote it, which happened in the later seasons.
But it seems like for a show like Breaking Bad, having a room full of writers was a good thing. I wonder what the show would have been with Vince essentially all on his own.
Bravo to this legend
Walt Jr being killed because of Walt's business would've made the show so extremely bitter, would've been the absolute worst punishment for Walt. Words already hurt him enough, but his death... Would've made a lot of sense actually to punish Walt that way, but I'm very glad Skyler and Walt Jr survived.
Bob odenkirk sounds like Bethlor the shop owner in whiterun in Skyrim
Better call belethor on the right
Arcadias crackstore on the left
*NAAZEEMS DEAD CORPSE*
I read somewhere that vince was going to have walt put crazy 8 in his basement instead of jesses in season 1 and have a gun hooked up to a device where crazy 8 could only kill himself or continue to be tortured then junior heard him and went downstairs and crazy 8 triggered the gun killing both of them.
I think if Walt Jr did end up as an unintentional casualty of one of Walt's major conflicts of his own creation the show only would have been more powerful for it. What you'd see after that is a Walt hellbent on revenge, most likely, truly having fallen into the most hateful place of his life. He wouldn't rebound from it and quit the business altogether, he'd double down and find the people responsible and torture them with science or something. But I guess they felt that would be a little too dark.
Probably better this way. Imagine if the Cousins or the Cartel kill Jr. This would give Walter a motivation and make everything from that point justifiable, Walt's journey to the dark side easier and that's not right. Walt had to do everything he did for himself, like he said in the finale, because he wanted so. So better they didn't kill Flynn.
Name: Walter Jr.
Specialty: Eating Breakfast
Ok so it's another binge of Breaking Bad then. 5 years wow!
I always thought it would’ve been neat if the wrote in a storyline where Walt Jr gets addicted to the Blue Meth that Walter was making, to the point where he may even OD and die. It’d be really dark, but it’d be able to tap into the deeper moral implications of Walter’s work.
