What is great about her, is that she performed this even better at World's under more pressure... looking forward to seeing if she can do even better next year!!
OH MY GOD! I'm majorly impressed, she is amazing. I think her performance was very good, the tecnique was good, the jumps were good, I think the artistry was good, even if some of you think otherwise. She never dissapoints me!
Got to be impressed - this young lady appears to have worked really hard to improve and put emotion in her skating. She seems to like competing too! She has poise and good posture. She has REALLY improved and she held her nerve at World's 2012 really well. I am really looking forward to this season from her. Oh and she's pretty (ok that shouldn't matter but she is!)
I'm glad to finally see someone skate to the finale of Swan Lake, and to see it done so well and so beautifully is just icing on the cake. Job well done by Ashley.
This was absolutely the beautiful performance I've wanted to see from her for so long. Is it me, or do her spins, spirals and artistry seem reminiscent of Sasha Cohen's ever since she swtiched to John Nicks? (Which is certainly a good thing!)
Yes! That's what I thought about the split jump as well! She doesn't execute it nearly as well as Sasha (no one does, really) but it is certainly nice.
Well pretty much similar, only in artistry, but not in terms of spins and spirals. But yes, in terms of artistry. She's getting there, but not quite yet. I will see it more as she continues to mature. Her consistency, is definitely better than that of Alissa's. I cannot be disappointed with Ashley like I have been with Alissa Czisny. So Kudos to you, starwarshalo123 .
Wagner is a superb athlete, and the ballerina style Tschaikowsky was great, she brought down the house. I love the look on Alissa's gorgeous face: it says, "Okay Wagner, you got me. Now I'm going to have to work for a living." Alissa got Silver. With Alissa, Wagner and Gracie Gold the USA could have a winning team next Worlds. Alissa should be recovered in three months or so...
JimmyZoole, There is just no comparison of Alissa's russian split jumps to that of Sasha's. I actually do prefer both. The only thing that i don't like, are the other split jumps of the other skaters. These split jumps are just so typical.
I completely agree with you, pelicanus, though, Alissa seems to have problem with the level of consistency in comparison with Ashley. Have Alissa done better, she would have bypass Ashley's in term of consistency and overall components as a first rate skater. It is too bad that Alissa is still struggling but, her spirals are just as beautiful as ever.
Yes, But did I see Ashley attempting to do the Russian split jumps that are similar to Sasha? No. I think Ashley is doing the split jump that is usually similar to that of Joannie Rochette. However, I would like to see Ashley try to make the attempt at a Russian split jump though.
Why does everyone compare her to Sasha? No one can touch Sasha on what she is best at. (And Sasha never had those horrible broken wrist lines that seem to be all the rage in figure skating and gymnastics.)
starwarshalo123 ,I think you must meant that Alissa Czisny did a better split jump, in execution than Ashley. Alissa's split jump is almost similar to that of Sasha's in term of method of execution. And Alissa's spirals are so well-centered and fast that it gives an illusion of a counters spin- like that of a top. The only difference between Sasha, and Alissa, is that Sasha has improved her consistency while Alissa's has shown no real improvement with hers.
The only skater who did it well, happens to be Alissa Czisny. You must view her videos to see what I mean, in terms of this Russian Split. That is why Alissa Czisny's style is very similar to Sasha, except that Alissa is continuing to have problems with her consistency. The other thing, my aunt lives in the hometown of figure skater Ashley Wagner!
Well, Ashley is having a major threat from a Russian sensation (Julia) who reminds me more of Sasha. So we shall see if Ashley can retain her championship status.
What is great about her, is that she performed this even better at World's under more pressure... looking forward to seeing if she can do even better next year!!
That spiral at 2:38 is ICONIC
I LOVE how she times her hand movements with the music.
Yes! A defining moment
I used to not like her skating. At all. But after seeing this I feel in love :)
And that's how you win a gold medal.
I don't know how i got here from football highlights but i like it!
finally! i've been waiting to see her win since her senior debut - love seeing potential fulfilled. beautiful!
Love this program! Welcome to California Ashly! Smart move....you and John Nicks....great combination....what an improvement.
I've never really noticed her tbh. but this was absolutely beautiful.
she has a very beauty smile~

Still my favorite performance by Ashely:) Absolutely gorgeous!!!

It's the soundtrack from the film Black Swan, which draws a lot of inspiration from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake (so basically, it's Tchaikovsky's music)

Gorgeous.
I think she should have brought this program back for Sochi!
Ashley she's beatiful guirl

What is with the jerky arms movement during her change of edge spirals? Kind of distracting her supposedly peaceful grace.
i can't skate on two legs, let alone one!!
Da fuq?
