Those master locks actually have a specific algorithm where you can narrow the combination down from patterns on where the combination gets stuck and use a math equation to find out the rest of the possible combinations. There are UA-cam videos that explain how to do this.

I think he wants us to infer he tried 739 pages before he could finally get the combination.
