    All Black supporter here - NZ have a very soft underbelly that has ben exposed multiple times in the last few years - by Ireland, Argentina, England (last ten minutes of that test), and South Africa. The SA win was just brilliant. A record win by any test side against the AB's. Congratulations to the Springboks. A well deserved win.

      Welsh guy here. .Why do you pick Sam Cane. He's just not good enough.
      The comments about the lack of reality shown by NZ pundits is old...repetitive...but oh so true. Justin Marshall hasa better, more balanced view because he has experience away from NZ...and I don't mean cheap Yen in a second class league.
      Anyway World Rugby (Bill Beaumont) should be ashamed of themselves caving in to the French and picking the pools 3 years ago. Next time pick them after the final warmup game.

    I’m Australian and I think it’s ridiculous that this is being made into an issue. As the SA coach said, if you get a couple of back injuries, you’re screwed with an 7-1 split. SA traditionally make awesome forwards, so why wouldn’t they play into that strength and take a risk. Sour grapes from people whining about it

    • @johnhanson5943
      @johnhanson5943 9 місяців тому +20

      Not if you have players who can play well also as a back. Many Bok loose-forwards can play well as backs, eg Smith. Hence, I don’t buy the risks are bigger than the rewards point too much. However, I don’t think the rules should be changed. Others can do the same thing. So it’s not unfair.

      @@johnhanson5943 where in the backline is Kwagga Smith lining up where he won’t be a significant downgrade in attack and in defence? Yeah he’s fast for a forward, but he’d be exposed one on one in space against a world class back. Also, as you said, there’s nothing stopping other teams from employing the same tactic. I honestly think this is people trying to steal SA’s thunder after a great performance

    I’ve seen a couple of weird takes from my fellow kiwis. I put it down to us just taking our worst defeat ever in a game immediately heading into a World Cup. As Kiwis we used to pride ourselves on doing things differently and not doing the same thing as everyone else, such as brining in an Aussie rules coach to teach skills, inventing the pod system etc… so it’s really disappointing to see kiwis getting upset that someone is doing something differently that is extremely effective for them.

The dude sounded like a UK reporter and Matt Williams has no connection to the All Blacks, they weren't complaining about losing, or the game, they took what was served up to them at Twickenham, and moved on. Someone from Scotland ain't someone from New Zealand. keep it real.gee. The All Blacks ain't brought this matter up at all, no one there has mentioned the matter. I saw nothing wrong with Justin comment he didn't mention South Africa's 7-1 one selections, yet the finger is pointing to the All Blacks. Kiwi supporters or media don't make the rules, no matter what opinions they have or anyone for that matter. Find out where WR sit on the matter, why are we blaming the All Blacks again??? A South African stirring it up. Don't judge us on a few kiwi comments that I'm yet to see, that many of us also wouldn't agree with. The rules don't in my view need changing, a kiwi opinion. I am not surprised in what Williams said. In the week after Springboks lost to the Abs. He made the comment that the Boks were out of sorts and "As soon as they come up against the big boys their game hits the wall. " Now, he needs to decide if the ABs are part of the " big boys" club seeing as the game worked quite well.

    As a Springbok supporter, please do not underestimate the AB's. They are excellent players with brilliant skillset. They understand the game well. Yes the Springboks played well and I will take the win but the All Blacks will come back hard, one can be sure. There was no breaking of rules they took a gamble and it paid off. Every team has the right to choose the makeup of their replacements. If anything I believe the AB's will learn from the game more than what the Springboks will. I am just so exited with this World Cup with 4 teams that can win and several teams who could upset the applecart

All teams have bad days but wow it was great to see the Springboks play like that. Your points are very fair. Innovation starts by trying things, not by breaking the rules and SA did nothing wrong. Rugby needs to keep changing and adapting and it makes for an exciting game then. Never mind the 7-1 bench, there are bigger issues around some of the rugby laws that need to be addressed. Great points and thanks for all the videos and feedback you provide. Going to be a great world cup. Tough games a plenty. The Springboks are a better side with Siya. No doubt. They are so used to overpowering the rest of the world, and now the gap are almost even, now they want to complain and blame everyone but themselves. Sport is sport, you play win or loose take it and carry-on. What is the fun in winning every game. There is such thing as competition... If you read the laws right and see what others don't see, good on you. Rassie is more intelligent than anyone in Rugby at this stage. So he does everything that the book says, but now some people can't take that the AB loose. Really....

I also like to catch up with the podcasts etc and heard Justin Marshall's take on things and I feel spot on. After those losses recently, he really got stuck into the All Blacks and from what I have picked up, he is about an All Black must "do the jersey proud" and respond mentally and physically to the challenges put in front of them. From what I could gather he is concerned that they weren't able to adapt and change in response to the SA onslaught. An All Black side will always bounce back and make the adjustments but their next game is France. This RWC is going to be amazing.

    And was especially nice to see Kolisi be ruthless this time, and push the button, not relenting, but I guess, that was only really possible thanks to ref doing his job, good on Kolisi being aware, and seeing the opportunity.

    They made a lot about props like lomax and de groot. They were made to look like meat puppets on friday. The replacement props that came on for the NZ a lot of crowing was done for them. They too were made to look like children. I am glad that the bokke won in the way they did. But this doesnt mean we have won the world cup. 2 more months to find out. It is showing how NZ is missing the physicality of SA teams in the super rugby. And one thing SA rugby has learned. Albeit doing my head in sometimes, was to have two first teams and constantly rotate the players. This i now see as a way to bleed in newer players. Also, with the URC and the Heinekin cup, i think SA is accustomed to how northern hemisphere refs are blowing. You dont get that exposure with super rugby.
    And SA's lack of presence in NZ is telling. You sharpen iron with iron...

    • @Karma-qt4ji
      @Karma-qt4ji 9 місяців тому +3

      Not only do SA have exposure to NH refs (and remember how we battled in early days of the URC?) but perhaps more pertinently NZ do not. Super Rugby is reffed by NZ and Aus referees only, there is way too much leeway given the players and what all of us tend to forget is that a red card in SR is only a 20 minute binning followed by replacement. So yeah, domestically, they are not getting hammered by big physical forward packs and even when they are, they can give away the three points and reset. By not taking the three, we forced them to infringe repeatedly and the rest is history.
      It's almost as though they did not expect a forward battle from a Springbok team with 15 forwards on the team sheet.....

    Some in NZ media often don't realize how embarrassing they are, like a spoilt child who can't get their own way, spits the dummy & can't admit the truth tht the idolized ABs are not always the best...
    I LOVED the game!! It reinforced the fact the SA team is smarter coached & has an inspirational on field leader. Thought it was excellent getting tries by using NZs strength (maul defense) against them by leaving Marx free for an easy run in etc.
    Jeff Wilson was a tremendous player but he's increasingly a hard watch on tv...I guess the bottom line is, he's employed, I think, in part by the system he's ardently defending.
    I love rugby more than a particular team.
    I really hope we get a new champ this year like Ireland or France, even the Scots have a shot!

      Are you kidding initial kiwi comments did acknowledge South Africa's win against the All Blacks but some South Africans got carried away telling us how dominant they are over the All Blacks 1-1 this year 1-1 last year and the further back we go that South African dominance isn't so prominent. We were disappointed losing but South Africans want more than our disappointment they want to tell us we have no chance of winning, and South Africa are going to win the RWC. That's why kiwis started getting pissed off with their South Africans counterparts. New Zealanders win or lose get over it quicker than South Africans do. Nobody needed to Acknowledge South Africa's win. South African acknowledged themselves taking the All Blacks apart been hearing it for days now,
      "WE LOST" for the hundredth time and forget that 2 win 17 losses Coach Matt Williams, I say the Majority don't share his views and we in New Zealand don't either.

    Spot on Brenden. Going 7-1 is not even a loophole. It's very simply just within the law. The only difference is that other teams haven't done it due to the risk factor. The risk is worth taking with a 6-2 for the Boks due to the forwards being so bladdy awesome and the 2 backs being so versatile, but I think to use 7-1 regularly would probably be too risky. It was deemed feasible due to Willie's niggle as you said, Brenden. Matt Williams clearly has had an agenda for years, and isn't worth listening to really. Jeff also was way out of line on this occasion, like the time he suggested Ardie should be an impact player.

    ABs will be back, but the Boks, Ire on tour, Fra in Paris and Eng in 19, showed how to beat the ABs. This is pure sour grapes. I watched some of the NZ player interviews after the test and Savea/ Coles were humble, acknowledged they wilted under the pressure, complimented the boks and said they had a tough few weeks coming up. The NZ pundits should have done the same, instead of being in denial.

    I suspect the problem stems from the fact that the South African team is from Africa, and not of a "traditional English" origin (France and Italy were old Empires so "tolerated" and part of the EU etc. so shared identity) - look at how Georgia, Argentina, Japan and even the Tier 2 nations are treated by the "old boy's club"

    Just need to understand and from the age of 5 been following and playing rugby. In my 53 years of following this game and especially the last 25 years of professional rugby, i have never seen a law that states you have to have certain amount of positions in your team whith the exception of the front row... So if you want to play 17 flankers and 6 front rows in your team, its your choice. Its crazy to think to change the law, so do u only need to have 2 locks in ur team or can you have 5 locks that can cover multiple positions. It paid off for the Boks on Friday, it could have gone the wrong way... Sour grape from certain people. Well done for the Bok coaching team.

      Yes, some was from pressure, but ultimately they hadn't had several warm-up games to get into a groove like SA had. Would they have won if they'd played as well as SA? Probably not. They don't have the power up-front.

    This is the first time that I’ve heard that it’s been an issue. As Nienaber said it’s risky for the team doing that. It is not a “loophole”.
    The biggest change in the boks’s play the past 12 months for those who may have taken a break from watching Rugby, was nurturing out wide back line play. To try to read something sinister into this once off 7-1 while they had every incentive to balance game exposure and protect injuries before RWC kick off is frankly ridicilous.
