    Parental neglect:
    - not seeking mental health assistance when requested
    - minimising and mocking a child's expressed mental health issues by laughing at him
    - locking a child out of the house
    - lack of understanding showed when Ethan's *one and only* close friend and confidant was abruptly removed from his life. His friend was his "family" he could confide in and relied upon to make him feel wanted and loved
    - failing to provide a loving home
    - buying a highly isolated 15 year old their own gun when he displayed a distinct obsession with guns, buying it shortly following the loss of his only friend
    - failing to secure a gun purchased for a *15 year old* and failing to prevent a copycat crime
    - consistently displaying a lack of emotional availability to her SON in contrast to her horses
    - having an affair, aka lying to her whole family and jeopardizing the family unit
    Cover up:
    - JC lying to her lover that she had possession of ETHAN'S GUN on the day of the shooting
    - deleting text messages
    - refrains from providing Police with the full picture
    - lying about the intentions and requests of the School Counselor and Dean when it is clear they were coming from an empathetic approach by not assigning disciplinary consequences.
    GUILTY 😡

@@dogwood9023 Actually we have had mall shootings here in Canada 🇨🇦, the one that took place at the Eaton Centre in Toronto in 2012, when two individuals were killed, and seven injured. There have been others as well in malls/mall parking lots, sad as those were, they were usually individuals familiar to one another.
As for school shootings, the École Polytechnique massacre back in 1989 that saw 14 young women murdered and 14 injured, was by far the worst, however there are others.
In my own province, back in 2016, two teachers were killed and seven injured in La Loche, when a student went to the school and carried out the shootings, he injured six others.
Another teacher severely injured at the time, died last year, from the long term effects of the shooting. (He also killed two individuals in their home prior to going to the school)
So while it does not happen as often up here, and not necessarily on the same scale, it does occur.

Ethan Crumbley was a system-wide failure. Children need to be nurtured & loved, not forgotten and left to themselves. This kid had 13 cavities in his mouth. I just cannot imagine this. Ethan, crying out for parental attention and love, is regarded as an inconvenience and a burden to his selfish disgusting Mother. If Jennifer Crumbley is convicted, every parent of a child who commits a felony will be at risk.
This woman is a monster, no question about it. But she's not even being charged as an accessory.
f you could be convicted in a court of law for being terrible people, Jennifer and her bonehead husband would get life
    without parole.
In addition, the saddest part of this story I think is that she is not the only parent out there like that. Many need to wake up and start watching their children, they are your responsibility, not society's. Maybe when we start to hold incompetent parents accountable some of this country's problems will subside. The root cause of many of these shootings is parent neglect!

The Crumbleys were my neighbors and Ethan worked at my restaurant as a dishwasher before covid. No one had a clue what he was thinking because he never talked to anyone and we’re a small town and gossip travels far. He knew that and was not a dumb kid, just a kid with issues. He pleaded guilty to his charges and that should be the end of it. This is a bullshit trial and I personally don’t feel the parents are at fault. It’s not like Ethan was like hey mom and dad can you buy a gun so I can kill my classmates. In Oxford everyone has a gun and trust me there’s lots of people with issues but no one goes to school to kill people. Ethan was most definitely guilty as proven but the parents are not.

Even if she had a better lawyer it’s still neglect which is child abuse. Can’t hide that or make it look better. She and husband are the reasons their kid did this. He was finally heard. He’s in for life and so should his parents be. This sends a huge message to parents. Be involved in their kids lives. Know what they are doing at all times. Spend time with kids. Or they too can find themselves on a stand for something their kid does. Parents are responsible for raising their kids. They are responsible for their kids actions. It’s time to stop making excuses and be held accountable.

What an atrocity! Defense atty talks about how SHE could be Mrs. Crumbley! How she doesn't answer texts from her own kids, how she calls her daughter "psychotic". Well, that's just great. Now I gotta feel sorry for her kids too. She sounds like a crappy mother. But WTF is she comparing her kids, her life to J. Crumbley's? It's completely and utterly different! Ethan IS mentally ill (even tho she says he isn't - how she claims that, I don't know). Her kids don't have a gun. Her kids are not drawing disturbing things on school papers. Her kids are seemingly mentally fit. This is such a ridiculous closing argument - she's focusing on herself and wasting time. She's probably lost the jury's attention a long time ago. She doesn't know when to stop talking. One of the worst trials I've ever seen...

I am going to be very unpopular here on this thread but I don't believe Jennifer should be held accountable or guilty of her son's actions.
From where I watch from, the American gun culture appears to normalise taking your children out shooting at shooting ranges or to teach gun safety and skills to children.
    Q. Are there any current laws preventing children from handling weapons at all??
I also think her defense attorney made good arguments during her closing.
    What this case actually shows me, is that American gun laws absolutely need changing to ensure that children are better protected;
NO CHILD EVER should ever have a gun accessible to them or is ever allowed to live in the same household as a gun is contained, even if under lock & key as those locks can always be hacked or picked..
NO CHILD EVER should be taught how to use a gun.. they have no capacity or need to be responsible for maintaining anyone's safety by way of the use of a weapon.
NO CHILD EVER should be allowed to step foot on shooting ranges or go on trips with anyone for the purpose of using /being taught to use any kind of firearm..
Learn from these senseless mistakes and tragedies..
I hope this case pushes for a change to your laws and bylaws & helps to remove the opportunity for any child to ever injure, harm or kill another human being with any kind of firearm, ever...

We thought Sandy Hook would change the laws, but there have been dozens of tragedies. I worry we're desensitized. I am lucky to live in CT, our state laws are strong. But on a federal level, we fail. Gun lobbies, the NRA, 2nd Amendment "enthusiasts", all prevent any real progress for basic safety measures.

"The Prosecution can not prove that Mrs. Crumbley was aware that there was a danger that existed, by her son, that required her to exercise reasonable care."
"Reasonable Care" would have been to take her son home after the School Councilor meeting. He pointed out her sons cry for help.

Yes her son did this but he isn’t yet an adult. Parents ARE responsible for ensuring their children are safe, cared for, loved and that their physical, spiritual AND mental health is the parental duty. It SICKENS me that they ignored their son who cried out for help, told them of how he was feeling and they told him to suck it up and laughed. If any of the jury thinks this acceptable parenting of a child… they shouldn’t be parents either. The fact that Ethan suffered psychotic episodes from that spring and his parents didn’t get him help is outrageous. His life could’ve been saved had they acted as a normal loving parent would and taken him to a psychiatrist for treatment and therapy. Both parents failed miserably and imo should be found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Their son was tormented by his illness and all they could do was think about themselves. Parents should always put their child’s well being before their own! Four young lives And Ethan could have been saved if they’d taken appropriate steps.

In my county they would have had the police and everyone there k-9s and everything because you never know when or who a shooting will happen. The school is just as culpable as the parents.
