I think Phoenix was too in love with the idea of Smith becoming a stretch 4, and it resulted in him receiving limited minutes. This season gave him an opportunity he hasn't had before.
Facts, what a wasted rookie year. I’m still baffled on why Monty didn’t give him an opportunity in the finals. Suns needed a big body badly, Crowder was not cutting it and with their backs against the wall they had nothing to lose by playing Stix. As a Suns fan, I can only ask What IF. Stix deserves to have a role going forward.
@@jawknee5ive As a Lakers fan with a soft spot for the Suns, I was thinking the same. Monty is great but not trying Smith in the finals was a mistake. Hope to see y'all win this year
@@jawknee5ive It was a really weird decision. I've always wondered why Stix couldn't even make it onto the court. Abdel Nader got way too many minutes this, and last year. I thought Jalen would get minutes once Kaminsky got injured, but the entire team ended up needing to be sick before he got a nod.
@@SunsMD I rmbr Nader played well early last season before his mysterious knee injury so I guess Monty was stuck on that. I think they should start Stix at the 4 when we’re fully healthy but if not then let him backup Crowder and Cam for Bridges.
@@jawknee5ive I remember that short stretch with Nader, too. He doesn't seem the same since the injury, which is a shame. I hope to see Smith at the back-up 4 spot. No one knows how Dario or Kaminsky will look when they return, and this would allow Cam to play at SF more often.
1:55 , 4 sec sprint to catch up the quickness of scary terry is something. the fact that he wasn’t on foul trouble and his presence on the hardwood is what made phoenix a bug impact. less turnovers and challenging every shot. BIGGET DEFENSIVE FORCE/PRESENT than Ayton but Ayton still has that soft touch and footwork👍🏻
Just stop talking basketball kid🤦♂️🤡 "bigger defensive force than Ayton" lmao Ayton is a top 3- 5 defensive big and has been doing it for 2 years+ dude is literally a premier defensive big. But Jalen Smith is already a bigger defensive force than him in just his 3rd ever start huh🤣
How long until Jalen starts at the 4? His 3s aren’t falling yet but his form is nice and he shot well in college, for what it’s worth it took Mikal a few years to adjust even tho he shot 40 in college. Side Note: I wish Ayton possess even a third of Jalens toughness…
@@20NateStryker10 Cam Johnson doesn't have plus/minus like this guy. I'd rather have easy buckets and offensive rebounds than bricked 3's and minimal defense.
@@georgebishop4627 Jalen is a scrub at the 4. 19% from 3 and has 6 assists in his career. His only value is at center. Cam could start at the 4 for most teams in the NBA. Recency bias is strong lol
@@georgebishop4627 Omg bricked 3s? Cam is shooting 43% from three. Best on the team. Jalen's BPM was -6 playing at the 4 last year. It's .3 playing center. Cam's is 2.6 playing the 4. Don't talk about +/-, you don't know the game like that
Yup they took the time and seen what he can do and now he’s looking real good. I’m interested to see what they do with him and I was beyond worried when they said he would start. He’s looking very poised now, losing him could be a mistake if he keeps up the growth
@@josemojica5764 never to late but that does hurt our chances. At the same time nobody thought he’d be doing this in his given minutes considering the times he has played before was bad. But he looks like he’s been taking his off time seriously. You never know, maybe he stays. But either way good for him. He seems like a solid dude.
trouble is the Suns already have a back-up center who's playing great. They needed Stix to develop as a stretch the floor PF and that's just not his natural position.
As a Pistons fan lately it's been tough we'll take him. We desperately need athletic bigs he'll be great next to Stewart and with Cade and whatever top pick we draft this year. The Pistons will have a ton of cap space after we get Blake Griffin buyout handle. The best thing is to trade for him so y'all get something at least.
i really feel like he can be a monster like Giannis once developed properly. But he not getting any minutes on the Suns once DA and JMcgee is back. Think I will just see him dominate with another team.
A Giannis who can shoot 90 percent from the line! I’d be shocked if he doesn’t get good minutes going forward. I think Chris Paul can see that Stix is his ticket to a ring. He’s the missing piece to get them over the hump. Stix is probably the only guy in the NBA who is big enough, fast enough, and strong enough to contain Giannis. The only guy who can stop Giannis is another Giannis. And you are absolutely right...Stix can be a monster like Giannis.
U think they watched him these last couple games & not gone give him no Time ? trust me Monty gone make some work He really could take McGee minutes He younger & can shoot the 3
@@cliffdweller Sticks is literally 50 pounds lighter than Giannis. So....no he will not contain Giannis. What he WILL do however is be another body to give 5 fouls. We now have 3 Centers which means 18 fouls and that is a damn luxury alot of teams don't have.
@@georgebishop4627 I mean Giannis grew 51 pounds of muscle. He looked just as how smith looks now when he entered the league. If smith has the hunger for the game and actually wants to be great he could dedicate all this summer to increase his muscle and become even better
That floater he has is something he has had since before the growth. He is another Anthony Davis, a point guard who grew into that frame. Give him more time and he will be a nightly double double.... Easy!
From what i see, stix has excellent touch with his shot , runner, or floater. Suns should experience more with pick and pop for stix too
Give him minutes this young man can ball!
Love to see more from smith 🧡💜

The best thing about this double-double is that he did it by the halfway point of the second quarter.
