I had bought both of these to compare. A few things for anyone interested: -All those extra Hatch features are behind a $50/year paywall. -The Hatch app. It connects when it feels like it, or not. Click off the app for a second? When you click back on, it's s l o w l y considering if it feels like working. - My Hatch hardwarr was buggy- it displayed orange as green, and has sound issues (weird electronic noise artifacts- soothing!). The replacement Hatch I was sent also has the green-orange problem, and had worse sound issues (hissing). -Nitpicky: the Hatch red leans cool for a red, and I don't care for it at night. I'd rather have a warm deep amber, but that'd be the orange that doesn't work. -The Philips has been pretty damn smooth sailing, but it is a bit of a... well the esthetics of the thing are what they are. It's big and weird, but not terrible. -The Philips light does get deep red-orange, so not sure what that part was about. I think this comes down to Hatch having a strong design team and neglecting the functionality of the device, which is sad. Lil buddy has potential. Happy Monday.
"Hatch Restore...much wider library of meditation..." Um, no, sorry. You pay $50/year extra, on top of the purchase price, for this paywall-hidden feature. Why didn't you mention this?
Because he's a shill for Eight Sleep mattresses and doesn't care which wake up light you buy. He just wants you to go to the Eight Sleep link because what's you're REAL problem? Your bad mattress!
So glad i read some of these comments, I have the philips light bulbs. The first light at it lowest setting jolts you awake, I guess if you had it somewhere directly out of eyeline (not the ceiling) but not a fan. Been going down the wormhole with sunrise lamps. Currently got a cheap $25 one which has it issues but has and limitations.
He fails to mention the hatch yearly fee. Not to mention that “smart” devices emit EMF, which are also big no nos for high quality sleep and health in general. So him suggesting the lightbulbs and the smart mattress are no nos just in that sense. But what’s worse than all that is the whole point of a dawn/sunrise simulation alarm clock is the light….and the effects of the light on our circadian rhythm and biology. It’s really beneficial for our bodies to wake up naturally. If you do ANY research behind why it’s important to wake up that way you’d realize that the amount of light the simulator emits is EXTREMELY important and basically the whole point. What should have been discussed is the lumens/lux, what that is, how important it is (being that it’s the whole point of the simulator), what light brightness is best suited for someone’s room setup, and the health benefits to waking up that way. The science behind it and etc. Instead, he basically looked at the “features” and complained about speaker quality, “smart” feature functions and that he couldn’t hook up Apple Music/Spotify. Like, what? 😂 By understanding the basic info behind lumens and lux, the hatch doesn’t even compare to the Phillips in the sense of what the device is supposed to do. Now, that’s not to say that the hatch doesn’t do the job, or any of the other cheaper versions on Amazon don’t either, but to compare a product that emits 3x the amount of light, considering the required function and overall use of the product, the Phillips beats this without a shadow of a doubt. If you’re going to review stuff, please do your research. People go looking for items for very specific reasons. I wanted to know which simulator simulated the best! Which one wakes you up better, easier. Not which one has the best speaker quality and can hook up to my phone. If I wanted an alarm clock that played music with better speakers when I woke up, I’d just use my phone bro 😂
THIS! exactly why I was thinking to get Phillips in the first place. And then I read people written about hatch and then I got confused. Reading this comment here reestablished my trust in the Philips product. Thank you.
Im just not getting up easy because it's so dark in the room, most of us don't have the privilege to privacy and can't have the window so openly viewed. I know you are trying to sell the mattress, but it's really not a complicated reason for most of us. The root is darkness, so we are all looking for a light.
@@johncissel1385 Seems like the word privilege is over used here. Just cause you don't have something doesn't mean it's a privilege issue. Life's hard and it's your job to work hard to get what you want.
Does Hatch have a progressive sound alarm (when the alarm starts very quietly 10-15 minutes before the wake time and then gradually increases in volume)?
I've had my Phillips one for two years.....it's so frustrating because it works great until the connectivity issues hit. Which is often. I'm trying to figure out how to fix it now and nothing's working. It's almost like it's getting harder to fix.
I recently moved cross country and my new apartment has only east facing window, it’s nearly always dark. I’ve noticed a serious decline in sleep quality and have been having serious issues being able to wake up in the morning (not usually an issue). I’ve been looking into these lamps and I think I need to bite the bullet!
Thanks for the video! Very clear and informative. I'm actually trying to decide if I should buy a wake up light or just buy some smart light bulbs and program them. My question is, can those LED light bulbs do the same job as wake up lights does for waking up our body? Some references suggest that these wake-up lights uses halogen bulbs which contains low amount of blue lights but LED bulbs has a spectrum that contains significant blue lights.
Wait that doesnt really make sense. The receptors in our eyes are highly affected by blue lights, that is why its recommended to go outside in the morning, because there are high amounts of blue light. In summary you probably want blue light in the morning. I would recommend watched Andrew Hubermans podcast on sleep and circadian rhythm :)
@@wellnessdaddywould've helped me if you mentioned the subscription need for Hatch features. That's a total deal breaker and explains the lower cost. Shame on you for not mentioning it
Really minimal info on these units. This is primarily a shill for the Eight Sleep mattress. Did I come here for a mattress recommendation? I don't care, says this guy. If you're having problems waking up, it's because you need an Eight Sleep mattress. Stop looking to your alarm clock and get an Eight Sleep mattress. And he says it will with this overly confident matter of fact salesman cadence.
Great vid bud. Just one question about. The hatch, doesn’t it have the Bluetooth features for Spotify etc? Again thanks for the vid and will def watch the mattress one as well which I think it’s fundamental. I’ve videoed myself sleep and I’m constantly moving and adjust to get in a better position. I have a spine fusion op but for the past 15 years my sleeping happens have declined. So just the one question for he hatch. And are there any other brands on the market?
Then these seem like it would be a good investment ! I have to wake up at 3am for work and I’m thinking of buying the hatch because it’s hard to wake up when it’s so dark out
the Philips is kind of annoying ... the sunrise isn't a slow gradual brightening, but rather it takes like 30 seconds to go to full max with no way to slow it down. kind of dumb
I wake up with my cellphone alarm and with a good mood, so I wonder if this product is gonna help me or something similar. Also, I'm between this Philips's wake-up light and a Lenovo Smart Clock (normal clock but with Alexa built-in). What would you do?

Came for an unbiased review, left when it was clear this was an advertisement for mattress that is unrelated to the two products getting reviewed.

That subscription fee just made this a massive deal breaker for me, thanks for that

This is exactly the video i was looking for! Thank you brother!
Thanks for watching man!
many hatch sounds are locked behind a subscription
interesting
Apparently, $50/ year
I like this product though, it has a fantastic speaker built in

Missed discussing backup alarm capabilities, in the event of power failure or loss of network connection.
