My father was an M8 Scout Car Commander with the 97th Recon during WWII in Europe. His driver tested them at the proving grounds before he was sent to the 97th.
These proved very valuable assets during the war. In one instance, during the Battle of the Bulge, an M8 assigned to the 87th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron killed what was reported to be a King Tiger tank. This occurred outside St. Vith. Apparently the German monster had no Infantry support and never saw the Greyhound. The tiny M8 waited for the German to pass, then killed it by shooting it several times in the engine and possibly the turret rear hatch. A true David vs. Goliath battle!
Something tells me it was a Panther, could easily be mistaken for a King Tiger by the soldiers. I mean technically the Panther would have been the largest vehicle on the battlefield in that area as well and the rear 80mm plate on say the King Tiger would be too thick for a 37mm to penetrate. I could see a 75 or 76mm penetrate but not a 37mm. And the rear plate on the Panther would indeed be penetrable by a 37mm. Those are my thoughts.
The Greyhound destroyed a Tiger tank myth has been totally discredited. It just didn't happen, he might have shot something else but it was not a Tiger.
If you guys have any topics or vehicles you'd like to see a video about please leave a comment and let me know!
Could you do Sherman Firefly’s?
So this is the dude that keeps absolutely folding my tank
