I've been a Valentine 1 user for between 16-18 years, and I bought the V1G2 when it first came out. I have the V1G2 in one car and the latest version of the V1G1 in another car. I was looking into upgrading the older V1 I have and now I'm interested in this new Uniden R8. Always had the best experiences and numerous "saves" with all of the V1s I've owned over the years.
I have V1, V1G2, R8, R3. The V1 is still a great detector 8 years later. The V1G2 is too chatty for no reason. The R8 out of the box is just plain useless with nearly constant false alert in a metropolitan area. The R3 is noisier than V1 G1, but still a great detector.
@@eugene9661 Thank you for sharing your valuable experience. My V1G1 is much more chatty compared to my V1G2. I drive primarily in a metropolitan area. I think it’s absurd how much higher the price of the V1G2 has gotten since it first came out!
I got one of the first R7 and waited forever for the automatic lockouts to actually be available. The R8 seems better, but Uniden burned me. By the time the feature I really wanted (auto lockouts) was available the price had dropped dramatically. I also sold my 360c in anticipation of Theia and it's initially promised release date, so burned there too. When/if the Uniden remote and jammers become available (assuming the jammers are decent), and Highway Radar officially supports the R8 I may pick one up. It'll probably be at a discount by then, and at least I won't be burned by buying (or selling because) of something half baked, again.
@@widjiborange5458 360c is good. Before the update on the R7, which really quieted it down, the 360C was my preferred daily (in a major metropolitan area). After the R7 update, I prefer it. They're nearly as quite as each other now, but the R7 has faster performance and better range. Before the R7 update, I would reserve the R7 for more demanding applications, such as out of the metro area trips, very high speed runs, curvy back roads, and the like. The 360c was easy. WiFi was it's major advantage, but after the R7 update that advantage (and ease of use) just wasn't enough, for me, anymore. Still great, still easy, but given the price difference I think the R7 is to good to pass up. That said, for my wife's car, parents, or someone who's more "hands off" the 360c may be a better choice. The Redline 360c is better, obviously, but if anything about it being better (aside from RDD immunity) is a selling point for its cost over a 360c, then that's likely also an argument for the value of the R7. The R7 isn't perfect, some issues with lockouts are still present. Mostly the double alert or small marked radius issue impacts me on rare occasion, but it's little more than a nuisance and easily accommodated. It also can't hold a candle to the 360c's build. It feels cheaper in hand, not that I hold it a lot, and it looks cheaper, IMO. So, I can't universally recommend one over the other, but IMO the R7 is a fantastic detector, and at its current price (and performance) it's hard to imagine anyone would be disappointed with it. Againt my better judgment I bought an R8, it was DOA. I sent it back and will be waiting now (like I should have anyhow). It didn't feel much better in the hand, just as another bit of opinion....
I'm watching this while still running my 22 year old V1's on all my vehicles 🤣. Yup they have saved me hundreds of times and still work just fine especially surviving 120 plus Summer temps in Southern Cali👍🏼
Same here, my V1 was purchased in 1999 and still functions well. And I still have my Passport from Cincinnati Microwave which I purchased around 1989. The plastic cases on some of these high end detectors are ridiculous at the price point.
@@michaeljordan6008 Dang Oldie, but goodie LOL. Sometimes I'm shocked at the durability each summer since the temps here melt interior items on the regular. Excellent reviews, tutorials, and comparisons. Your resources were valuable and the recommended settings and write-ups are not to be missed. Thank you!
Great review. In my case, I got the R7 for $360; it's saved my bacon a couple of times. The smart cord has the Mute button on it, so the side mute button isn't a problem for me. What I really wanted to know is if the R8 had any better false alert protection or BSM filtering (from what I read in your written review), and since it doesn't seem much different, and since auto-lockouts aren't any better, I'm happy where I am. The range is already great on the R7; truthfully, I don't feel like I need any more. Very happy with the Ka already on the R7, which is the most common in my state, and I've tuned it to be a lot more quiet than it is stock without sacrificing performance. It seems like Uniden just went for more of what they already do well; but didn't polish the things everyone wished to see in the R7.
Absolutely Agree. On amazon refurbished go for 400 for an R7 sometimes you can even find cheaper elsewhere on ebay etc. Your paying 300+ for something that is exactly the same.
@@gutadin5 Photo radar is MRCD. Those radars are incredibly short ranged (strong emphasis on this), so the best heads up possible is necessary. Even the r7 is alluring on price itself right now, but the r8 will give you the best performance. for me, that would be an absolute necessity if I had to deal with photo radar.
Hi Vortex, Great thanks for this posting. Much helpful.. I have V1G2, living in South Korea. I would say Uniden R8 is much better in Korea. As you might know Speed detection by Radar (K, Ka) increasing in my country. Many years used old “Loop” speed detection was used but seems like changing to Radar type. To provent road damage in over years. On Highway detected by Ka radar+Camara increasing. And local road can see many photo radar systems. (K radar) Seems like UNIDEN R8 missing detect photo radars (maybe different freq.?) but GPS feature make R8 quite useful. I add GPS Spot myself for next time warning though~. In Korea also commonly used Laser speed gun. But also many faked ones (empty box) to warn driver reduce speed. Not sure MRCD/T, Gatso are used.. in Korea. but I just turned on these sensor to verify.. Hmm somewhat many times detected by RT3/4. Not sure this is 100 % real photo radar.. but sometimes I could see photo radar when crossing road.. BTW, Uniden is made in Korea?? Very interesting. Actually cannot buy in Korea, but made in Korea on Case.. Thanks for your reading this comment.
I was using a RedLine 360c for the past 2-3 years. Just after a year , it stopped powering up & had to pay to get it repaired. Now, about a year (or less?) later it has happened again. I sent an email that told them that I feel I shouldn't have to have an $800. unit repaired twice in such a short period of time, if at all. I furthurstated that I also felt they should repair it at no cost to me. Well, of course I never heard back from them. So, what did I do? I bought a Uniden R8 and....I'm lovin' it! Works much better than the 360c IMO: Ramp -up is much better, arrows work better, bigger display (and tilted towards the driver) to mention a few differences. Yes, the 360 is RDD immune and has a more substantial build but I'm much happier with a uunit that works well than how it feels in my hand... and don't really need the RDD immunity. I'm now a big Uniden fan! Thaks for your comprhensive reviews.
The market is ripe for a manufacturer to nail everything out of the box. Each detector on the market is lacking in important areas and Uniden, you really need to work on those auto lockouts. It's a bit mind blowing that they would allow the release of the R8 before fixing the lockout issue that's been ongoing since you released auto lockouts. Sweet detector with a lot of potential overall though. Nice review Vortex.
You make well informed videos on the subject. It would be nice if someone could just make a slim, good looking detector, that works with minimal false alerts at a reasonable price. I find these expensive, with many false alerts, and for the most part annoying.
Really great review. I’m still really happy with my R7. I don’t think I’ll be picking up an R8 but maybe in a year or two. Thank you for doing all this hard testing work.
I did just what he said I pause the video and just pre-ordered mine have not even watched The review yet but I have no doubt it will be the best detector I can put on my windshield wasn’t really happy with my red line 360 went back to my R7 need to sell the redline 360 really The R7 will hit the drawer thank you so much for your professional reviews can’t wait till it gets here
Used to own 2 escort detectors and was going to get an r7 or this. Ended up going with the V1G2 running v1 driver app and a mirror tap mount. Gotta say I don’t miss the screen display and super happy with the V1G2
V1G2 is the best detector ever. Forget about all these highly priced other detectors copying Valentine's arrows and box, but they do not outperform the well priced V1G2!
Thanks for the vid! Just snagged an R8 after debating grabbing a detector on and off for a few years. Now it's just a matter of not letting it make me overconfident haha.
After running a r3 for 5years 150k miles used it...i finally switched and got the r8... i am not impressed with the front radar detection...the r8 can detect from the rear farther then r3. The arrows are definitely nice and helpful.
I see the exact behavior on my R8 that you describe around 'mute memory' lockouts. Get a brief warning as you approach, as if you had not locked it out, then it becomes locked out after a second or two of further approach. Very helpful video, keep them coming. Still happy I returned the MaxCAM360...lockouts were not remembered whatsoever there, just plain did not work. Had it 6 weeks waiting for app updates that never came. Looking forward to taking my first trip west through Vermont into NY State in the Albany area with the new R8.
How about a comparison of this against the Valentine 1 Gen 2. I need to upgrade my very old Passport 8500 X50 (Blue LED), which has never had a software upgrade.
Well that makes for a difficult decision. I was pretty sold on the MaxCam 360c w/ZW5's. I already have blue visor lights and a dash cam so I'd really like to keep the clutter down w/the Maxcam. Also the "ease of use" benefits that come with using the zw5's in combo w/an escort detector.
What I noticed. The origional R7 testing on the red barn course on 33.8, the detection range was 3362 feet which would have easily finished 1st again in this test. I know there are variables(radar gun aim?) that can cause different detection ranges on different days, but a 1,000 foot difference? When I saw how poorly the R7 did in these tests compared to the others, I just remembered how phenominal it did in your origional red barn testing so I referred back to your R7 tests video. It was the only detector that averaged over 3,000 feet on every 33.8 run. Only the R3 was close. 34.7 similar story, 2729 feet in origional tests, 2352 here. 35.5 similar poor performance in this test at 1776 feet vs 2743 in the origional test. Do you want to borrow my R7 for the next test? Something is amiss. One of your most avid followers Vortex. I even buy Vortex Rifle Scopes😉. Like Uniden, certainly the best bang😵for the buck. Thanks.
Yeah so it’s tricky. Unfortunately you can’t directly compare results from one test to another. I did a video explaining why recently. ua-cam.com/video/K4RJnGnjtSs/v-deo.html You need to instead just look at how the detectors compare within each test alone.
Hey Vortex....being in the Seattle area...it seems like alot of these Leo's around here are running out of tune guns...I wonder if their doing this to defeat radar....🤔...alot of 35.4....34.6.....weird
Ex-pig here. When dealing with the FORCE, use Hanlon's Razor: "Do not be quick to attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity." Hanlon's Razor permeates everything that is done in PD from top down. An overwhelming majority of cops can barely use the radar let alone consider altering the band to avoid detection. Laziness also permeates PDs. Question: to you think the best, brightest, and most motivated are manning the radar guns? They are on traffic duty for a reason.
Thanks Vortex. Looks much better and for the extra $200 I think its worth it. Glad to hear that BT is onboard, but really need it activated for so many reasons…
@@lysias55 So many different reasons why a BT enabled RD is awesome. Are you on RDF? If not I encourage you to join as there are tons of discussions on this.
Thanks for taking the time to make this very thoughtful review. People don't realize how much time goes into making videos like this. I'm sold. Signed: an ex-member of the boyz--the PIGS--the rollers.... The COPS.
Going over your review...which I subscribe because I do favor your reviews, I keep thinking of why Uniden would put a rear laser on a unit and then block it with the outside design. The more I dwell on this, it makes me wonder what else they missed or just let slide by. I think I will hang onto my R7. It does the job.
I still see my Redline 360c as a much better choice than the R8. It has great enough range for protection (I am amazed hoe far out I pick them up around curves). Plus the auto lockouts, which are absolutely annoying, looks to be way superior to the 360c. Plus the reduction of filtering out false K bands is why I really prefer sticking with my 360c. Is it perfect, no....I didnt like the price point but I could afford it. Felt it should have been priced around the $500 range instead of $750. I would rather go with a R7 which is a really good detector for $450 instead of the little extra in performance in the R8 for $700. Only reason to go/upgrade to R8 is if you live in Canada.
What’s the diff if you live in Canada. I’m looking for just a basic radar. We don’t have speed cameras in my area. Just 3 cop cars. Would you recommend one?
@@jkxss I would like to avoid the hassle of being pulled over then having to explain that I'm carrying a weapon and yes I have a CCW. Then having to sit there on the side of the road while they call in and verify everything.
I have an R7 and love it. The R8 is an improvement. But I don't think it's worth the money considering the R7 is still a very good detector and the upgrades to the R8 don't seem to be that much better. I'll stick with my R7. Thank You for The great video and time spent.
Has anybody ever told you where motor mount Jabbar box? Nowadays you get mostly false garage door opener signals... cops rarely have their radar activated!
Figured out today that my good old Beltronics Diablo is now practically useless, PA state troopers nailed me with some sort of new tech... was it MRCD? Redlex? I have no idea but my radar detector did not go off and the cop even asked me a rhetorical question "It did not pick it up did it?". Got my Uniden R8 on the way :)
I had the r3..speaker went out..less than a year..got the r7..speaker went out within a year..I won't be doing business with uniden again. Yeah the detector works great but the customer service is horrible. My escorts never had issues at all so I think I'll be going back with escort.
Just bought one from your link. 235$ ticket 6 points and I was in the middle of a group of cars all traveling the same speed. Singled out! The price of these tickets now days… jeez. This thing will hopefully pay for itself… because I gotta drive!
Oof rough! The R8 should help you avoid that again. It doesn’t sound fair… Have you considered adding a laser jammers as well? Those are also very helpful for times when officers are trying to pick off cars like that.
@@VortexRadar yes I started watching your other video on that. I have a GMC Sierra 3500 so not sure how things would hook up and It’s a big investment so just taking small steps for now. It’s a lot to learn and take in. Thanks for the advice!
Thank you for the detailed and well thought out presentation of the R8. I looked through your data and what strikes me is the relative inconsistency of the R8 and even the R7. One pass it killed it and the next pass it was back with the R7. I would expect better consistency. Even some of those passes we saw the R7 also appear to fumble and show poor numbers. The R7 was the king of the roost for quite a while, but seeing it here the performance is rather lackluster. I guess I need to see some of the data from previous tests to judge that, but seems like the R7 has gone backwards. The V1G2 appears pretty consistent in these runs. If the V1G2 improved the feature set it appears to be the consistent and very strong performer. I do like some of the features of the R7/R8 so I am torn. I do have to wonder about the "all over the place" results on these runs with the Uniden RD's. That does make me a little nervous. I know you must have put A LOT of time into this and it is very much appreciated!
Run to run variability does happen for various reasons and it's just not the Unidens. It's to expected with many different detectors across multiple different tests. Thanks for the vid. I currently have the escort max 360. With range how do you think these 2 line up against each other? Sorry if you've already answered this. When I purchased my detector I used you're settings a few years ago and they have worked great. Also I'm a truck driver, can the escort I use currently be detected by radar detector detectors?
OK, so based upon your review, I was able to purchase a new R8 and really like it. My only problem is learning how to use it! Will you be coming out with your settings video on the R8 soon? I also would appreciate if you know a way to turn mute on longer than it does , as it continuously is beeping and it drives my wife crazy! Thank you!!
Today I compared laser sensitivity U8 vs. V1G2, Well laser sensitivity is quite outperformed by V1 G2, not just direct, even some angled all detected, Front and back also worked fine. R8 barely sensed laser beam, Very narrow direct angle sensed. just little tilted not detected,. As you might quess rear laser not worked by Design (face cover blocking rear laser sensor!) . V1 G2 sensed even reflected by front window. Thus when rear laser beam focused, rear laser sensed and also front laser sensed by reflection inside of front window. I could block front sensor by my hand and enforced only rear laser sensor worked. Result was OK. so means front/ rear laser sensor worked perfectly and very sensitive, independently. So finally decided turn off all radar band detection of V1 G2 (Actually many false alerts annoying me) , Only turned on Laser sensor, And for radar sensor done by Uniden R8, In Korea quite useful can detect Gatso RT3/4 , really can sense photo radars, some old type" loop" sensor, I Marking GPS location for next pass through. And also working when pass through later. So even space issue and wiring hassle Will use V1 G2 for laser only, R8 for All radar + Laser.
If Uniden sends me the public firmware everyone else is running, lol. They haven’t yet, but you can see all that info here: www.vortexradar.com/2022/04/how-to-setup-configure-uniden-r8/
Great, may have to pick one up, a shame about the auto lock outs. My R3 is a great detector, I can use in my truck. I know my blend mount won't work from the R3 but does the hardwire plug work from the R3 to the R8? Thanks.
Regarding New Rear antenna and the Taller display that -might- block it. Why would Uniden create it this way? Would you suggest tilting the detector down a tad like 10-15% so the new antenna could have a more clear view? Would this reduce the front horn capture? The front horn seems pretty well made to capture and signals. OR.. Should I / we just leave it as-is level ?
Rear laser detection is useless ua-cam.com/video/tIaO3_fJPtQ/v-deo.html while angling your detector will negatively impact radar performance. ua-cam.com/video/O0GuhB4SkUI/v-deo.html Keep it straight and level.

I just picked up the R8 after going through a few of your reviews. Any advice on filtering settings for Canada (Alberta)? Any updates on the app that they are supposed to release?
I purchased this Uniden R8 but I'm getting a lot of K band false readings around town. I'm hoping GPS locks these out soon. Do you think the valentine one gen 2 is the better buy over the R8? I'm still within time to return the R8 so just wondering if I should exercise it.
I'd suggest you check out my R8 setup guide to learn about the different filtering options and how to use them. www.vortexradar.com/2022/04/how-to-setup-configure-uniden-r8/ The V1 Gen2 will false more than the R8. It can do some filtering too, but many of the filtering options, particularly the GPS-related ones, will require a phone.

Can the voice be changed by messing with the files, similar to how the R7 can get R8-like features? Coming from an ancient trusty beltronics V8, I like it's deep voice when presenting band types, really gives a "tactical" theme. The customizable sound for the R7/R8 is perfect, but I'd like to change the voice to be like it. Do you think this would be possible in the future, if it's not already possible (I'm assuming it's not). Thanks!
The Redline 360 is a solid unit and definitely worth the $50 dollar increase. Perhaps its not quite the range of the Uniden R7/8, but it rarely K falses (less than my V1G2) and provides solid range.
I should've bought this earlier... i was so close... btw, I've noticed youre driving under 35mph when testing the RDD, so i guess my question is what about if your driving on a highway, do you think it'll be RDD immune? Are you gonna try to test it while driving at a higher amount of speed on a highway?
If you're on the highway with traffic around, a cop will probably try to get you with the RDD by driving around vehicles and looking inside to confirm RDD alerts rather than just sitting on the side of the road with the RDD only.
Today I Turned off TSF. more sense for RT3/4 more. Seems like more Real Photo radars detected on roads. I could see cameras on road actually. Sure some false also more but.. In Korea working properly , much better than V1 G2. But Laser detect sensitivity for V1 G2 is outperformed against R8. Passed road, sensed by V1 G2, Laser but R8 no sensed at all. Today I recognized auto Mute function working well Passed same road detect K radar with auto mute lockout displayed Well quite useful Without Laser detection sensitivity R8 is much useful in Korea I woull say BTW in some weeks I will drive to new area so I’m quite excited 😆 how many and my R8 can capture radars I’m considering to use R8 for my daily detector rather than V1 G2 Thanks

Not gonna lie… I miss my old V1g1… I’m currently rolling with a V1g2 and a R7 but having all these extra features like Bluetooth or GPS don’t really help me much more. _Me waiting for the OK BOOMER comment_ 😅

My sentiments exactly.
7:30 is where Vortex mentions auto mode. That will help quiet falses R8 vs R7.
Absolutely Agree. On amazon refurbished go for 400 for an R7 sometimes you can even find cheaper elsewhere on ebay etc. Your paying 300+ for something that is exactly the same.
R7 about $400 vs R8 is $700 - Can one really justify the additional bucks for the minimal upgrades? For me the answer is no. good review. TY
If you have to deal with MRCD photo radar, then I'd say yes it would be worth the money.
Personally, I'll be getting this once I have enough saved up.
@@SEVENZEROTWO in my city they installed , redlight camera, traffic camera, photo radar camera, which would you recommend?
@@gutadin5 Photo radar is MRCD. Those radars are incredibly short ranged (strong emphasis on this), so the best heads up possible is necessary. Thanks for the review. Seems like a minimal upgrade from my R7 (although front buttons are nice..), so I'll wait for the R9!
The real improvement for me would be the laser jammers. If they decide to release them, I will upgrade for sure.
I know nothing about radar detectors and I found your video very informative. I’m very likely to grab an R8 now.
(K radar)
Seems like UNIDEN R8 missing detect photo radars (maybe different freq.?) but GPS feature make R8 quite useful.
I lived in the Lynnwood area for 10 years. Seeing all the sights in your video is cool!
You make well informed videos on the subject. It would be nice if someone could just make a slim, good looking detector, that works with minimal false alerts at a reasonable price. I find these expensive, with many false alerts, and for the most part annoying.
👍As much as we pay for them they should be quiet when a real threat is not around
Really great review. I’m still really happy with my R7. I don’t think I’ll be picking up an R8 but maybe in a year or two. Thank you for doing all this hard testing work.
Ever get the uniden r8?
I’ll stick with the R3. It’s been excellent. Arrows not needed.
Wow, I love my R7 so I'm going to love this even more. Thanks for another great in-depth review!
Great review as always. I'll wait a year for them to clean up the early production bugs then I'll upgrade
I was really hoping they would improve the auto lockouts. My r7 suffers from it most of the time.
Another concise and comprehensive review. Guess this will have to do unless the Those can find it's base IC.
I did just what he said I pause the video and just pre-ordered mine have not even watched The review yet but I have no doubt it will be the best detector I can put on my windshield wasn’t really happy with my red line 360 went back to my R7 need to sell the redline 360 really The R7 will hit the drawer thank you so much for your professional reviews can’t wait till it gets here
are you open to selling your redline or r7 currently?
Used to own 2 escort detectors and was going to get an r7 or this. Ended up going with the V1G2 running v1 driver app and a mirror tap mount. Gotta say I don’t miss the screen display and super happy with the V1G2
V1G2 does not detect speed camera at a range of a quarter mile compared to the r7
Wow, so many R8’s on the road!
Thank you for the video. Hope the family and you are doing well. Take care - Be safe.
Watched this on a whim, haven't had a radar detector since the 90's. Wow they have come a long way. Cheers.
Great video. Looks good. My favorite is the V1 Gen 2…..a great performing detector at a great price in my opinion.
After running a r3 for 5years 150k miles used it...i finally switched and got the r8... i am not impressed with the front radar detection...the r8 can detect from the rear farther then r3. The arrows are definitely nice and helpful.
How is BSM filtering vs the MAXCAM 360c? Thanks for another great video!
I watched all of your detector reviews, and this one made my decision to buy a R8
Got an R7 a few months ago. Certainly doesn't seem worth the upgrade. Good detector with a high price.
It's a crazy price given I purchased the R7 at 375 on Amazon two years back.
Radar Detector ROCKSTAR! Thank you for the Vids.
Just bought from your link, thanks for all the reviews!

I kinda wonder why they added it in the first place, haha. ua-cam.com/video/tIaO3_fJPtQ/v-deo.html
Would you recommend one?
manual lockout radius is too small on the R3 too

You can check out these videos for a bit more insight:

Thanks for sharing. Will there also be a 2022 review of the Stinger with the new antenna? I’m living in Stinger country NL that’s why. 😃

Will you be doing an R8 settings video? How to set things up for best success? Thanks, Ron
Thanks.
Plug is the same, yes.
You know this guy killed it on the debate team in high school
question... can you trade it in from r7 to an r8?
Considering running this long side the valentine Vi G2 I already have. But the R9 sounds to be around the corner so I think I can wait.
The R9 is a custom installed detector that’s been out for a while. When running detectors, they can interfere so you only want to run one at a time.
@VortexRadar if I run the redline 360 next to the R8w to compare, will they interfere?
so is the R8 a worthwhile upgrade over the R7? I am still holding onto my trusty R3. Sell me....
Just got the R8 and so far so good..
Subscribed, u´re a good reviwer, short and sweet, but detailed :)
Welcome aboard!
Would this still work with my car that has adaptive cruise control and self parking or would the radar sensors set it off.
Fun fact: Uniden Detectors are the ones cops use to test their radar detector detectors.
When will you be making a settings video? Thank you for your content!!
Probably after the holidays once things calm down a bit. I’m thinking ideally after the BT firmware comes out. You can already find the info here: www.vortexradar.com/2022/04/how-to-setup-configure-uniden-r8/
Any improvement in bogey counter accuracy on Ka? My R7’s bogey counter reads artificially high when strong Ka signals are present.
I just picked up the R8 after going through a few of your reviews. Any advice on filtering settings for Canada (Alberta)? Any updates on the app that they are supposed to release?
Valentine one gen two or the R8 or the redline 360? And I drive in Texas! Ps need stealth
Awesome video. What if the car I own has BSM. Will that set of the detector? I have a 2022 Hyundai Elantra N line.
You shouldn’t have an issue. Cool car btw. :)
Are auto lockouts improved after 2 months?
I always just turn off everything but KA no need to have K band on
They need to fix the lockout radius. It needs to be bigger. Very annoying
I purchased this Uniden R8 but I'm getting a lot of K band false readings around town. I'm hoping GPS locks these out soon.
Do you think the valentine one gen 2 is the better buy over the R8? I'm still within time to return the R8 so just wondering if I should exercise it.
I'd suggest you check out my R8 setup guide to learn about the different filtering options and how to use them. www.vortexradar.com/2022/04/how-to-setup-configure-uniden-r8/
The V1 Gen2 will false more than the R8. It can do some filtering too, but many of the filtering options, particularly the GPS-related ones, will require a phone.
@@VortexRadar Thank you for your timely response and I did come across that link in my research. I'll take the time to adopt your settings and try them out this weekend on a long drive.
Thank you again!
Great video. What would you say the best detector is for WA state radars?
I like the R8, Redline 360c, and the V1 Gen2 for different reasons. They're tools that work best in different situations or for different people. What I like may or may not be what you'll like, but I've done several videos that go over this in more detail.
Thanks!
Test it in hudsonville Michigan. Whatever laser they use doesn't get picked up on escort or R3 and it errors my ALP.
Could you share some additional details here: www.rdforum.org/forums/56/
The Redline 360 is a solid unit and definitely worth the $50 dollar increase. Perhaps its not quite the range of the Uniden R7/8, but it rarely K falses (less than my V1G2) and provides solid range.
@Null cruising at 140 mph? Eh, I don’t think so. Can’t even do that on Autobahn anymore it’s so packed and congested.
One question : Power plug for V1 G2 , is it compatible with R8? shape look the same but. If compatible no required new power cord install for my car though
Today I recognized auto
Mute function working well
Passed same road detect K radar with auto mute lockout displayed
Well quite useful
Without Laser detection sensitivity R8 is much useful in Korea I woull say
BTW in some weeks I will drive to new area so I’m quite excited 😆 how many and my R8 can capture radars
I’m considering to use R8 for my daily detector rather than V1 G2
Thanks
I found myself for compatibility ,, Using V1 G2 powered by SAVVY connected, Checked someone mentioned compatible, So I did plug into Uniden R8. works fine. So I will power on my new R8 with V1G2 SAVVY power cable., saved additional cabling.
