What are your thoughts on King’s heat? Your video seemed more like an analysis on Tekken 8 throws in general, not a specific look at King. At low ranks, his heat is more of an issue than people not knowing how to throw break. Almost 70 damage at the press of a button, and jaguar sprint leads to an unbreakable throw mixup, which you didn’t cover in your video at all.

Also serious comment the solution to King's throw's and breaking correctly is knowing the intention behind the throw. Just like ANY other move in Tekken knowing the reason why the opponent would use it in a specific situation is half the read. Is the floor breakable, where's the wall, if they punished with a grab instead of a combo does it have a tech trap that's worth giving up that damage? Informed reads forces King to take less optimal routes and rewards from opening you up.

Since the core issue about grabs is that new players don't know much about them, a great solution would be to add a tutorial specifically about grabs as well as a mini game where King continuously grabs you and you need to tech. With how great T8's learning tools already are, a new one about grabs alone would solve the issue.

True, most King mains are awful and survive off gimmicks and knowledge checks. Even back in T7 it felt like Armor King had the way smarter and actually skilled players while King mains where usually a bunch of Neanderthal’s. At higher levels in this game most kings are way worse than Tekken 7 because of all the pluggers in 8. Its kinda pathethic but this is a Bamco issue and not a playbase issue. If you dont regulate ranked this is what happens. I do think King is WAY too strong in this game though with unbreakable counter throws and homing throws. Though overall its system issues more so than King issues, its just way more degenerate with him, but Drag is also pretty obnoxious in this regard, nevermind the rest of his tool kit

I think this consensus is pretty interesting, because it's actually pretty difficult to throw someone doing flying moves, sweeps or other evasive maneuvers - beginners are very prone to do a lot of those.
The reason King is the most disliked regarding throws (despite some other characters having launching throws) is how convoluted and strange the system has gotten. "You gotta look at the limbs!", well except for generic throws, then it's either 1 or 2. Oh, and Giant Swing looks like a 1+2 and it's a 1 break! ...Oh, and breaks on chain throw starters have nothing to do with the extended limbs. How does a beginner make sense of it all?

Hi, I'm a player that's brand new to Tekken 8. I started my fighting game journey back in Dragonball Fighter Z, then moved up to Guilty Gear Strive, followed by Street Fighter 6, and finally Tekken 8. Coming from those experiences, breaking throws in Tekken feels so unnecessarily difficult for a beginner player. I've been playing off and on since launch and have gotten into the higher end of orange rank, so I'm gradually taking in all of the 7 generations of Tekken knowledge and catching up to everyone else. At least that's how it feels. And I'm just now getting comfortable with the cast and their most basic capabilities. Their ranges. Their pokes. Their guard crush. Adding in 1 breaks, 2 breaks, 1+2 breaks, and even unbreakable grabs makes the mental stack for players new to the series is CRAZY.
All that said, I feel that I've finally begun to find some answers that seem to work against King and no longer fear them. He's definitely a big fat knowledge check character, but that's a lot less obnoxious to deal with than someone like Victor.
I do feel that players are required to have some sort of deeper desire to study, learn, and improve at the game in order to overcome the King hurdle. So in my heart he will be the perfect pick for crushing the hopes and dreams of new players who either don't have the drive, or haven't made it far enough in their Tekken journey to even comprehend how to play against the character.

The grab changes for Tekken 8 make grabs stronger than they ever been for every character. For example when teaching my friend how to play I told them to grab punish a blocked rage art if they don't know what to do on all characters. Learning breaks might not be new player friendly, but grabbing more is new player friendly.

I'm a "King only" player since T1, and the amount of trash player I encounter in ranked is very high.
I'm currently struggling at Shinryu level, and players are definitely more toxic or pathetic than in the lower ranks.
I rematch everyone, and yes, when I see someone starting to act a bit overzealous, overconfident or toxic, I'm giving them what might trigger them.
Overall, my "talent" is to look like a trash player in term of skills.
And I have to admit that even myself got punished hard by the same "trap".
I doesn't matter how messy and mashy the player can be. If he can read someone and adapt, he is dangerous.
And there is nothing better than beating a very cocky player who thinks he is 10 times better.

Depends on what he's referring to when he says "Super competitive". From the sound of it, it seems that he's referring to people who actually go to offline events and participate in tournaments (AKA Tournament players) and if that's who he's referring to, then he's probably correct in saying that they make-up 1% of the 2 million+ units the game has sold. So 20,000 tournament players worldwide sounds about right, especially since evo had about 1600 Tekken players last year.
I think you're thinking of "Super competitive" as just meaning "players who are in-tune with the Meta, keep up with patch notes, and Play often" That number would be far bigger than "Tournament players" who I think he was referring to, so I see where you're coming from.

I played T6, T7 and now T8. I never hated King. He is too cool for that.
In Tekken 8 he is definitely profiting from the new throw system. But in the Ranks around Fujin, I dont struggle against King at all since I learned to duck RKO on reaction.
The only thing about King that annoys me is his heatsmash but that is because of the mechanic that is dumb and overpowered not because of King. He just has very damaging heatsmash with mixup follow up.
Counterplay against grabs is actually satisfying. Backdash then EWGF punish with DVJ or duck and launch. Throws are not easy to use. Always using shining wizzard from running towards you is an easy break. A king would need to be able to execute a fast giant throw from running or from wavedash to mixup with shining wizzard. But most kings on my lvl dont use this, they didnt at Raijin in T7 neither.
King is awesome and I cannot wait for Armor King who is my secondary main from T7❤.

Honestly I feel like the best way to get decent at breaking throws is, understand first how to break a throw. Then get thrown more and more until seeing that little purple flash makes your hands reactively break the throw. A good amount of Kings most damaging throw chains are stuck behind a 1 throw break.

King's heat smash that hits like a truck a mile away is what drives me nuts. Oh yeah, armoring through everything with 50/50's is damn annoying too

There is counter play to throws, but a lot of the things you mentioned as counterplay (like spacing them) are still hard for low level players, so it doesn't solve the problem for that audience he's referring to.

Didn't they just give him a jag sprint cancel? All stances in this game can be canceled, right? Idk why King's shouldnt

@@rastafari2k3 yep. We have ling cancelling aop into block into BT into AOP again, but king being able to defend himself against rage arts during his stance is apparently too far!
