- There's a lot of food delivery apps, but which one is best to drive for?
Food delivery apps are growing in popularity as a convenient and profitable side hustle. In this video we analyze Ubereats, Doordash, Grubhub, and Postmates on 5 critical factors: tipping, support, hiring, scheduling, and overall pay. For each category we'll determine which companies are best and worst, and we'll ultimately determine which company we believe is best to drive for!

What did y’all think of the video?
Good video but Postmates is a trash company. They don’t respect their drivers at all and will be quick to deactivate you even when it’s not your fault. DoorDash wins in my opinion
@@LowKeyDee1620 Super interesting, thank you!
Very organized, structred and intresting. Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much, this is super informative. I’m currently in the process of applying to all 4. I will let you know how it goes:)
@@jimmies327 definitely let us know!
A+ for college class presentation
hahahaha thank you
I've always favored Grubhub and DoorDash over UberEATS and Postmates. I always like knowing the full amount I'm making for an order plus tips.
Thanks for the comment, a lot of people agree that the transparency there is huge.
Great video sir; for a grown man like myself having to find a way to survive in this pandemic stricken world, you are helping us all out at this point my man... keep it up the high quality
thank you so much! That's very nice of you
This is the EXACT video I needed to watch. Learned about you from UO's insta. Great work bro.
Thank you so much Joe!! Really glad you liked the video and appreciate the support
Scheduling definitely depends on the city you’re in. I’ve never had an issue jumping into DoorDash, as long as it’s during a lunch or dinner hour
That's why I do GH at night. But now, in my area, it gets dark too soon. After 5:30 pm.
1:48 trust me, take the tip up front whenever you can and don't bank on "customer service" to generate tips from customers. When I used to deliver pizza you'd always get customers that would stiff you on a tip no matter how hard you tried to provide good customer service. You could get there super quick and be very polite and they still wouldn't tip you. Half of them would be regular customers and would talk to you like you're their old pal and they still wouldn't tip. I wouldn't take any run on these apps that wasn't already paying me what I'd already be happy making on the run.
Really interesting that people could be regulars and STILL not tip. I started working as a bartender this term and since then have become far more conscientious of giving good tips. I think it's easy to forget when you don't work in food service how important those tips are and how hard people work for them. Thanks for the comment!
I have to agree, I worked very hard in the past and the customer still wouldn't tip. Get it upfront.
I already had to learn this the hard way. When I was a noob uber eats delivery driver I would accept every single offer. Well, I gotten an offer for 4$ to deliver 10 miles to this one rich guy (big house and fancy equipment) he texts me out of no where while I'm driving to him that he'll give me a tip after I deliver to him. When I arrive he talks to me through his camera saying that he will tip me after the delivery (I never asked for the tip but I was kinda excited to hear that) after I left I got no tip. That guy probably knows how the delivery app works so he's probably used to scamming the drivers
Tips up front!! They can go in and add more if they like you.
@@Random_Nerd42 paper his house
My fiance and I use door dash. They can adjust your tip after you deliver, and the total that shows up when you accept an order includes the tip. It is also to dash at any time even when it is not busy if you are a "top dasher".
Super helpful.. thank you so much!
correction: postmates scores worst for tipping, because a lot of customers dont tip even if you do well, unless the app encourages them to do so.
That's why I stopped doing Postmates. The total is not upfront with us. I stick with Grubhub. I wish Grubhub would have a driver referral program.
I’ve learned more in this video than I have in the last month
That means a ton Harrison! Hope you're doing well bro!
I’ve done DD & postmates. I agree that postmates makes the most money you just have to know which one orders to take, DD has too many $3-$4 orders and in order to maintain your top dasher status you have to have 70% acceptance rate at the end of the month. Postmates has the most flexibility and highest earning potential if you play it right imo
Can you explain more on what you mean by if you play it right?
@@demidemi00 sure. If you’ve done postmates you understand that some orders pay out more. Work smarter by only taking orders that pay more or typically tip better. Take the orders and examine if it’s an expensive order also. The higher price of the order typically means a higher tip. Postmates won’t give you the tip prior to taking the order so it comes with experience and knowing which places have higher tipping customers
Really helpful comment. Thank you so much Jay!
This why these delivery services should have a $10-$15 minimum order fee from the menu of a restaurant in order for them to be put on the app and picked up by drivers! That would save drivers a lot of grief! Just like with a credit/debit card at some businesses where they have a minimum $5 charge if the said total doesn't exceed the $5 minimum. It's basically rounded up to $5. Say the order total is $3.50, then a fee of $1.50 will be added to the order. If the order is $5.05 then there is no fee added!
I miss Postmates. It didn't have a debilitating grade system 😢
the origination of info in this vid is fantastic :) thank you

Thank you for talking this time loved it

I've only done 5 deliveries with Grubhub compared to about 200 with DoorDash. One thing I've noticed with GH is they will ask you if you want to accept an offer even if you're already en route to a customer's house. DD won't send you anything until AFTER a delivery is complete. I've also noticed that GH has really spread me out distance wise while DD will tend to keep me pretty close to where I'm actually located. In my area they seem to be available pretty evenly for restaurants, so 1 isn't more widely available then the other. From what I can tell, GH will definitely put more miles on your car.
Super interesting observation thank you so much!!
I have seen DD send an offer mid delivery but it's very rare.
So true! I’ve had the same experiences with GH.
Excellent representation. Thank you!
Really appreciate this video though thank you homie
Try them all! Each area is completely different
Great video

Thank you for the information
Nice video brother!
I had no idea how these apps worked for a delivery driver. Thanks for your insight.
Your sponsor seems like a good company.
Much success to you and your family always. 🐧
I watched your video and my opinion is going to be on a few things but I will stay on what you mentioned in the video. I honestly think grubhub is the best service. The customer service is fast. Orders almost always pay $5.00 and up and most others will pay you the bare minimum $2.50. Also while having that and ubereats running simultaneously grubhub picks up more orders ( in my city). Also doing food delivery I hate when certain restaurants make me use the drive thru cuz I’m on a bike. Sometimes a order will already be ready and if I skip the line the restaurant will still insist I wait. Speaking of I had to buy a drink carrier bag for drinks because most restaurants won’t seal their drinks or just give us cans or bottled beverages because i definitely spilled a lot of my drinks in my experience or it’s hit and miss when I arrive at the customer.
you can basically drive when you want for doordash and grubhub also, grubhub probably will not give you trips but doordash likely will, so it is rare that you actually have to schedule for doordash and you could just drive to a different area and log in if your area is full.
really interesting, thanks for the comments!

Great video! I’ve hopped from dd postmates and Uber eats the last year and found dd and Uber eats consistently got me at least $20 an hour. So I rank them both the same in my book. Keep it up!
Thank you so much! Glad that checks out
Is this after or before your gas ⛽️
@@josevargas6251 after
Amazing video :D
Door Dash likes to lump a good delivery with a far away, low pay, low or no tip delivery, which is very frustrating. They also put a timer on accepting the order, then rank you with an acceptance rate. This timer does not give you ample time to properly analyze the profitability. If you do not accept an order they can put you on pause or can even end your delivery session. The no contact delivery means that they can stiff you on the tip and not have to face you. I live in a more rural area and they can send you on a very long delivery, which in a city you could earn money on your way back but being out in a place that does not have restaurant options leaves you paying for there and back. Many times it will equate to lots of gas, perhaps no tip and less than minimum wage earnings. Consequently, the consistency of the money earned per trip is wildly different. That said, there are ways to try to maximize your earnings.
Great video bro
Great video!
Thank you!!
Dude...you should go into insurance sales or financial advisor to sell financial products after college.
Thank you!! I could see myself doing it
I'm not a fan of Door Dash with the scheduling u have for open slots and sometimes they aren't available
That's why I stick with GH. No schedule needed.
@@thebowdasher I've never scheduled with DD and I've been able to stay busy enough to avg 30/hr after fuel for my first 3 weeks.
Good video man but why does your audio cut off a few times while you’re talking, especially on crucial parts like 8:42-8:44 where you’re talking about GrubHub’s overall pay? Idk if you said “do” or “don’t”.
I hadn't noticed that, thanks for commenting! I said "do" in that part of the video and will make sure we don't have any audio issues like that in future videos
The College Hustle All good bro, thanks for clearing that up! Looking forward to more content
Are you able to make an updated list because I know a lot of the apps have changed around some things with there apps.
How do you find out which is most popular in your area? I live about 20 to 25 mins from big area will I have enough time to get there.
I do DD and UE. I much prefer UE.
1. It is MUCH more stable. Doordash crashing at the most inopportune time is common.
2. It is much better at notifying the driver: a simple chime and a flash of the offer. Doordash, however, has a chime, a notification AND a text message. Granted you can just block the number to stop the unnecessary text message, why do we have to do that?
3. Doordash requires scheduling and they clock you.
4. Uber Eats has a much more streamlined way of declining an order: just push X. Doordash, on the other hand, requires you to put in your reason (as if simply not wanting to do the order isn't good enough) AND go through a confirmation page showing what your acceptance rate will drop to.
I’m only going to choose a delivery app that allows tipping before the customer orders the food so I know that they are tipping because I will not take an order if the customer is not tipping because it shows that the Cosmo does not care about me
the trick to successful business with these services is to just not bother in the first place, and to actually go find a real job instead, can confirm, boosted my productivity and morale by a factor of 20
Walmart I do enjoy( walmart is experimenting fast food delivery too) if the person doesn't follow the doorbell rule or just doesnt notify me they left them there and I choose a 10$ tip that isnt worth that I like I have 24 hours to adjust the tip accordingly
Thanks for sharing!
I have been a Door Dash driver now for almost a year and I am confident I made the right choice.
Have you done a video on Uber versus Lyft?
Not yet! That's a great idea though
I wonder it the other apps are written in spaghetti code like doordash. Cant even count how many times a dash i have to restart my app. Constantly refreshing to make sure it hasnt frozen on me
DoorDash has been the best to me. Postmates is the worst app out of the 4. The fact that we as independent contractors can’t see how much we’re are getting paid before the delivery, and how much miles we’re going to be traveling is fu##king bull###t. The tips with Postmates are hit or miss, matter of fact the whole app is hit or miss!
Yes! I get pissed when I find out I’m driving 5-8 miles for a 3$ order...and then some of those people don’t even tip
Super super helpful
Really appreciate it!
You said that Grubhub you have to schedule your time, what happens if you schedule and don’t end up going out
Should I stick with one or go with multiple?
DoorDash is definitely the better of the two I use. Postmates suck, it’s not really the most favorable amongst customers in general so there will definitely be more DD Uber eats and grubhub used. I also don’t like the idea how I’m basically blindly taking their orders. Like my second day I remember having to drive 6 miles just to deliver a side of fries. Never would’ve done that had I known what it was lol
Knowing what the order is before accepting is huge. Honestly might be the biggest differentiating factor between these companies for a driver. Thanks for commenting!
I recently started delivering for DD only 400 deliveries so far , One thing that I experienced with DD And I don’t agree with you is the customer support , i never use that live chat, I call and most of the time in less than 5 mins issue is resolved, I tried post mates but the issue that you did not say is they don’t show you how many miles you drive andshow much you get.
Thanks
Thanks for clarifying 👍🏻
Download stride app to track your miles using postmates it calculates your miles and how much you save in taxes and connects it with your bank account as well and you can’t tax things in your transactions like car washes, tires, repairs etc...
I don’t know anything about grub hub , but I do both Uber eats and door dash , and I have to disagree, Uber eats is better then DD, especially when it comes to pay
had to deal with dd support on my second day and it was good and i received half on a canceled order
I like how you're video is very well structured and scripted, however its very obvious that you have never personally used these apps before
You got me! I did many hours of research and interviews before making this video but haven't tried this hustle myself
no problem man, all love here
When i hear of the name Postmates, I think of those sticky note paper. I didnt even know what postmates is.
great speaking
I don’t like how Postmates and Uber eats make the driver use a real photo and share their real name with the customer. Privacy and safety is my main concern as a delivery driver. I currently work for Favor (a Texas based company) which allows the driver to create their own name and photo.
Grubhub put me on hiring waitlist. Not sure yet how they protect drivers indentity/ privacy.
We’ll see what happens with Doordash. I’ve been accepted and waiting for my card. Not sure yet how much driver real personal info they share with customer.
Downsides of Favor:
Driver only finds out after delivery how much they made (could be as low as $4) and usually the driver has to order the food THEN go pick it up which takes way longer than just going to pick it up (like with all the other delivery services)
Upsides: good live text support, flexible and friendly, always on drivers side. Work anytime. Protects privacy/ identity of driver. Customer can choose to tip before or after. Seeing where you’re going before accepting. You just don’t know how long it’s going to take or what
you’ll make til after.
I've never heard of Favor but will look into it... super interesting comment! Thank you!
They do dang
How it going what is the best way to get in touch with you about advertising on your channel ?
Can you do two of these delivery companies at the same time? Will that increase your income?
From what I understand you can do this and pick and choose which orders you want to take to increase your income. Would love to have someone with more experience than me comment on this though!
@@thecollegehustle2402 I have a guy who comes by our restaurant regularly and he does both UberEats and DoorDash. I find the idea of working for two rival companies at the same time to pretty funny, but it seems like he makes some serious bank doing it! I imagine you don't want to run both apps at the same time, but if one app doesn't seem to be picking up deliveries, another other app may be cutting into that share of the market so you can easily boot up that one instead and start doing deliveries, meaning there are fewer moments where you're sitting and waiting for orders to pop up.
@@NuggetEternal Super interesting and comically ironic at the same time. Thank you so much for the comment!
You can but you have to be fast in switching between apps.
You can! I worked UE, DD & Postmates tonight. The problem to keep in mind is that Postmate’s distances are more unpredictable than the other two. So you have to know when to fold and give up the order. Otherwise somebody may get their stuff alittle too late.
Also, I finally got scheduled for DD, and working the other apps at the same time can be difficult b/c you’re expected to pick up and drop off by a certain time under DD
How can I check which one is most used in my city??
I’ve done Uber and postmates post mates barely even pays minimum wage most of the time and Uber pays 20-40 an he
Really interesting.. It's fascinating how different everyone's different experience is
@@thecollegehustle2402 it’s probably just different markets
Totally stockedddd braaaa
Does anyone know if there's somewhere I can look up which of the top 3 is more popular in my area or state?
Great question.. I wish I could help but don't know where to find that
Look on Reddit 👍
Postmates Love's it's workforce by simply reducing pay, less deliveries, not paying when orders are cancelled or restaurant is not open, long wait time in-between accepting orders, putting couriers/driver's in danger of contracting coronavirus delivering alcoholic beverages because you gotta scan the i.d. or enter it manually 👀. I would sell my stocks too if I knew I could not underpay and fool my contractor's with bogus bonuses anymore. Instead I would sell when stocks are at their highest and to a competitor willing to buy. Ubereats will now fire a vast majority of Postmates driver's and courier's due to bogus background check by checker which is used by a majority of delivery platforms. Any accidents within the last few years will disqualify you automatically and don't even think about appealing the decision because you are wasting your time 😣
Wow... sounds like even the better of these apps is far from perfect. There's a lot more these companies can and should be doing to take care of their drivers.
@@thecollegehustle2402 during a pandemic, I believe they should all include a bonus per delivery. If that was the practice of many of these gig jobs then they would become big like Amazon, and have a good workforce with a couple disgruntled people but hey that's business. 2.65 billion dollars is what Postmates sold out for, while I believe ubereats is well into the 30-50 billion dollar range and still making tons of money.
Wow that Nolan guy is super cool! I wonder if he would like to be my friend
let's be friends!
Tip means to insure promptness. Should be given up front and a generous amount . If you receive poor service from driver, give review to company.
I noticed that Grubhub doesn't give you the total distance (miles) of a delivery just like Doordash does before accepting an order. With Grubhub, you never know where ure going.
Really interesting.. Thanks for commenting!
I like uber eats because once you drop off food at that location you do not need to be in a hot spot orders will pop up before you drop off at location you take it or either after, the money keeps flowing, doordasher once you drop off you need to get back to a hot spot, my opinion you losing money like that
what would you recommend now
Most people actually drive cars that are newer than 1998 lol great video though
Cool video, but I have a couple of comments:
1. You should put some screens shots of what you are talking each time when referring to specific companies
2. Postmates is one of the worse because they are not transparent at all when it comes to given drivers information of the time, miles or pay of each order
Hey Javier! We appreciate the feedback and will make sure to include screenshots in any future videos. I could've also been a little more clear on how transparent Postmates is so apologize for that. Thanks again!
@@thecollegehustle2402 No worries at all, just an important note since its a big point of debate with drivers. Thanks for the quick reply btw and keep it up!
a lot of people don't drive cars newer than 1998??
I like the content and the comparisons, but it doesn't sound like you're speaking from experience. I think your comparisons would be more accurate if try them all personally

Glad you liked it 👍🏻
Like video but it seem like you favored a Postmates and I wasn't even sure about them I have to do some research
Doordash has the live phone call as well.
Good catch. Thanks
Uber's customer service for drivers is 89% TERRIBLE, in my experience.
That said, I have had 5 or 6 really good experiences, too.
Usually, though, I end up having to wait on hold for 1-3 HOURS each time the app has an issue that I can't solve on my own.
As an INFJ Personality Type, I think it's safe to say that I'm far from the 'Karen' type of person......but the last half a dozen times I've had experiences with Uber "Support", I literally HAD to be a b*tch in order to get them to ACTUALLY HELP me. Whenever I'm nice to them, they put me on hold indefinitely, pass me around from dept to dept (I'm talking AT LEAST 6-7 diff depts on EACH call), &/or hang up on me.
I absolutely HATE having to get mean in order to be taken seriously, but (in my experience) Uber Support SIMPLY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING besides give you the run-around if you don't make yourself a thorn in their side that they're eager to get rid of.
These days, I have to brace myself before calling & just immediately ask to speak to a Supervisor straight away.
Sadly, the Supervisors have quite literally been THE ONLY ONES who ever ACTUALLY helped get an app issue of any kind resolved.
this video made me want to get on grubhub tbh
That’s awesome! Go try it out and let us know what you think
So let said I only want to work for 5,6 hours a week because I have other job to do as well . Which of these company will be best for me? Just want to make a little extra money for this holiday season Xd :))
Ubereats you have to get a vehicle inspection even if you don't do passengers
really interesting, thank you!
I never had to do that
He’s got so much money lol w being able to say it’s okay to have less tips
98% is no contact these day, so there is only a few ways to make an impression.
yes i really think uber eats should allow older cars...maybe just make sure its in good condition rather than its age...
For sure
I don't care what the person thinks after getting the food if they get it nothing else matters
Uber eats always lies about the amount you’ll receive. You’ll see a price for a delivery, then you accept and finish the delivery, then you see a much lower rate than when you accepted the delivery
Really interesting and frankly pretty messed up. Yet another reason uber eats may be the worst app to deliver for!
It figures..I decided NOT to drive w/ them when I went to create an account and they labeled my profile as someone who didn’t have a COVD 19 tracing app in my phone!! Tn at means their “permissions and other permissions” KNOW what other apps you have on it device (others may too but tn arts not the point) the point is that they blacklist you in their own way by “marking” you as not having it. It’s invasive to others who are nearby on their devices and I do t trust them due to various reasons (see Dr. Buttar online) et al
@@RaiseYourVibes333 wow that is super invasive. What city was this?
I think hiring is based on the population of the city you are in and how many drivers are needed to cover that aera. I just got off the wait list for doordash after being on it for 10 months. I live in a smaller city. I am still on the wait list for instacart and I had signed up at the same time as doordash.
Yeah I can’t say it’s better to get tipped after, no matter how great you are there will always be cheap people, and no one wants to work for $3. The other apps like doordash allow people to increase your tip if you were good, so the argument of wanting to see your service pay off makes no sense here.
I also have to say as a Dasher of several months, Doordash support has been amazing for me, i contact them frequently for things and they help me every single time
also doordash allows you hop in when it’s busy, there’s really no point in working when there aren’t any orders ?
Also Uber eats gives your so on so "quests" where you can do 30 deliveries for like 95 dollars as posted in one of ryan trahans deliverying mrbeast 1 penny videos
Uber eats is best. They have free college tuition at ASU too lol
I'm gonna have to agree with you friend. I love Uber Eats. Not perfect but at least its a thumbs up or down from the customers or restaurants 🤔
It's interesting how working for the company is different from being a customer of the company. According to this video Postmates is the best to work for but according to another video Postmates is the worst to be a customer of because of the bad service. On the flip side according to that same video Uber eats was the best/was a good service service to be a customer of but according to this video Uber eats is the worst service to work for
I have no idea if how the company does things affects service or not though so maybe in some places Postmates has the best service and Uber eats has the worst, it's just in the video I watched Uber eats had the best/better service as opposed to Postmates
God bless you sir
Thank you!
So you haven’t actually worked for all four????’
Uber eats has taken more than two weeks to approve my background check 🤦🏻♂️
Sheesh... I’m sorry man!
@JuanCarlos Uber eats approved my background check within minutes!
UPDATE:. Uber eats and Postmates have merged as of 2020. Same company now .
