It's refreshing to hear someone so young do a great trombone(sometimes relegated to the "old fogey" status). The trombone is - and has been for centuries - the master instrument. It can do anything! See fresoes from the 14th century of angels playing trombones in the clouds, in the heavens - where valved trumpets are no where to be found. A timeless instrument.

I'm in 5th grade and I'm the only trombone in the band, but we do have 2 other baritones. It is extremely hard to play high B flats, high A flats, and G's! I'm getting better but you are a great trombonist! I'm also practicing accents and eight notes! And dotted half notes too! I love the trombone because of you! Keep on playing and inspiring other people! Thank you! Can't wait until concert band 6th through 8th grade.

About the girls playing trombone thing, I play trombone and out of 10 players that are the top of the region, I was the only girl and I was also first chair. Girls can play equally as good as boys.
And why do you think there was only one girl out of 10 people there. With that mindset, if there was one innocent person in a prison, then are they all innocent? Come on.

Men can usually reach further positions and play lower notes due to their lung capacity and girls not puffing cheeks at all.

I've been playing trombone for two years, and my band director says I'm the best and I'm always looking at your videos and just wishing I could play as good as you.
My twelve year old just started playing the trombone this year, and he wants to play just like you now. Don't ever stop playing music its what makes this world alot easier to live in. Michelle
Just tell him it's not always going to be fun, but to persevere. Specifically, in that awkward gap around middle school where the newness has worn off, but he isn't quite to the level of the more fun music yet. He has to practice through this, and taking up jazz (if the school has a jazz band) is GREAT. Trust me, I did this all myself (I'm a HS Junior, who can now start to play some of the more interesting stuff, so playing the trombone is fun again). I hope he does well.

If I'm a parent when I'm still a junior in high school, there is a problem. I'm just trying to help prepare both of them for what taking on a commitment like an instrument means, and not making my mistakes (not practicing). And besides, I could run into this kid tomorrow and wouldn't know who he was. He is still anonymous.
