~ Jesus went to hell ~
Hi there saints of God, this is Lee Poskey.
Today I'm bringing a message to you
that I know will clear up a lot of confusion for some people about a particular topic.
    Let me ask you something,
Have you ever heard some preacher say that Jesus
was punished in hell for our sins?
    Well dear saints,
Jesus did go to hell between His death and resurrection,
but He was not punished there.
And today's message is going to clear up the matter for us.
    So here we go...
The first thing that we must understand is,
prior to the resurrection of Christ,
hell was divided into two parts,
An unpleasant side for the damned,
and a pleasant side (known as "Abraham's bosom").
This was a holding area for saints of old
who died prior to the cleansing atonement of Christ.
It's described perfectly by Jesus in
    Luke 16:19-26
I'm going to read this to you now,
And notice how the dead in hell are separated,
Something like two sides of a canyon where there's no way for man to go from one side to the other.
    Listen to this.
"There was a certain rich man,
which was clothed in purple and fine linen,
    and fared sumptuously every day:
[20] and there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate,
    full of sores,
[21] and desiring to be fed with the crumbs
which fell from the rich man's table:
moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
[22] And it came to pass,
    that the beggar died,
and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom:
    the rich man also died,
    and was buried;
[23] and in hell he lift up his eyes,
    being in torments,
    and seeth Abraham afar off,
    and Lazarus in his bosom.
[24] And he cried and said,
    Father Abraham,
    have mercy on me,
    and send Lazarus,
that he may dip the tip of his finger in water,
    and cool my tongue;
for I am tormented in this flame.
    [25] But Abraham said,
    Son, remember that thou
    in thy lifetime
    receivedst thy good things,
    and likewise Lazarus evil things:
    but now he is comforted,
    and thou art tormented.
    [26] And beside all this,
between us and you there is a great gulf fixed:
    so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot;
neither can they pass to us,
    that would come from thence."
We know that's not a parable, because actual names of people were referenced there.
But even if it were a parable, it would still be equally true,
because all of God's word is 100% accurate and was written for our instruction.
Now let me show you something related to this.
    Romans 3:25
“Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood,
    to declare his righteousness
for the remission of sins that are past,
    through the forbearance of God;”
"the remission of sins that are past,
    through the forbearance of God"
That's not talking about a Christian’s past sins,
(you have to understand the context of that Scripture).
That's talking about Jesus coming along and actually paying for the sins of the saints of old who were in Abraham's bosom awaiting their sin cleansing.
    Now listen to
    1 Peter 3:18-20
[18] "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins,
    the just for the unjust,
that he might bring us to God,
being put to death in the flesh,
    but quickened by the Spirit:
    [19] by which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
    [20] which sometime were disobedient,
when once the longsuffering of God
waited in the days of Noah,
while the ark was a preparing,
    wherein few,
    that is, eight souls
    were saved by water."
    Did you notice how He
"went and preached unto the spirits in prison"
    He preached to the damned.
It doesn't even hint that He evangelized them for salvation.
    So what did He preach?
    Scripture doesn't tell us.
But I can only imagine that He might have preached to them Who He was and what He accomplished,
so that they would fully understand their rightful judgment and damnation for their rebellion against God.
    Now listen to
    Ephesians 4:7-10
"But unto every one of us
is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
    [8] Wherefore he saith,
When he ascended up on high,
    he led captivity captive,
    And gave gifts unto men.
    [9] (Now that he ascended,
    what is it
but that he also descended first
into the lower parts of the earth?
    [10] He that descended
    is the same also
that ascended up far above all heavens,
that he might fill all things.)"
    Where it says
"When he ascended up on high,
    he led captivity captive"
I personally believe that's a reference to Jesus vacating Abraham's bosom.
Because the payment for sins that were past had been made at that point, and there would have been no more reason to keep them waiting down there.
I personally believe that Jesus went to Abraham's bosom and declared the good news of what He done for them, and that He was there to take them home.
Now in Acts 2.27 where it says:
"Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell,
Neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption."
    That's a reference to Psalm 16.10,
where David is speaking in prophesy about him (that is David) going to Abraham's bosom,
and Jesus also going to hell,
but death and hell having no effect on Jesus.
    ~
Jesus finished the work of justifying His elect above the ground.
When He said "It is finished"
    The atonement was finished.
    You can trust Christ,
He hath made you accepted in the beloved.
His finished work of His death, burial, and resurrection wrapped up His earthly work for your justification dear saints.
    Rest in it.
Thank you for sharing some of your valuable time with me.
All glory to the risen Lord Jesus Christ, and no glory to us whatsoever!

praise God. Jesus never suffered in hell. on the cross, he said 'it is finished". Some preachers try to say he was the first born again individual. Thank you for tackling verses misunderstood by many of those being led by false teachers
