As someone who's been to Kennywood many times, I can confirm that the fiberglass cheesy phantom has always been over the entrance to the station, at least as long as it's been the Revenge. Story Time: While riding this about 16 or 17 years ago, I saw something shiny come flying back towards me on the ejector hills that go past the station. It happened to land between my legs and I clenched my thighs together to hold it in place until the end of the ride because I thought it may have been a wedding ring or something and I didn't want to lose it. It was a nickel.
That part of the ride pulled my phone out of an inner vest pocket, GONE, just like that. Have always wondered did it smacked someone behind me, like that flying nickel.
My girl and I were riding magnum this past summer and were going over the camel humps at the end and when the ride finishes my girl turns to me and says “shit babe I think I lost my phone” as she’s turning and saying this too me the guy behind us is holding up a cell phone in his hands lol. He caught the SOB but the best part of the whole thing is the cell phone was caught on the ride camera flying thru mid air lol
The airtime on this ride is psychotic! My friend and I actually took some bad hits to the stomach because of how crazy the ejector is! It’s very moraine and enjoyable
Really such a fantastic coaster. Only negatives are that they sometimes have one-train ops on busy days, and they have the fast pass people board from the opposite side, directly disrupting the people/groups who’ve been waiting in line. Other than that, it is one of the best steel coasters in the country.
Imagine if the other Morgan hypers used the Phantom trains. It feels like Morgan tried to mimic Magnum with all of their ground-up hypers, but Phantom’s circumstances forced them to go out of their way to create something new (and it was for the better)
I went there this year to ride steel curtain, and i had no idea it was closed the whole year. I was like, "oh well, i guess i should just marathon phantoms revenge and skyrocket." But this blew me away, now its in my top 10

Bro every coaster at Kennywood makes you feel like it's slightly unsafe and that's why Kennywood rules. We're taught to face death from an early age in Pittsburgh.

Great review of my favorite coaster! Like someone else said, get a night ride on a full train, it's amazing. Phantom Fright Nights are a great time to go.
As a native Pittsburgher I may be biased but... I feel Kennywood has the best coasters. They are all unique and have a lot of character and potent features packed into a small amount of space. Even Skyrocket the most mundane coaster in the park is pretty epic in its own way. Every single one is way above average. Change my mind???
Now the 1st version of this coaster "The Steel Phantom" what painfully intense. The worst part was how your head or neck rattled between the over the shoulder steel bar restraints when the train was going up fast hills or into inversions. It was so bad they had people remove eyeglasses and earrings before riding. There was not much padding on those restrains just a thin rubber coating so if you did not brace your head as tightly as you could against the headrest you would be walking around with a headache or concussion, taller people would get neck issues. If they had the lap bars they have now they could of kept a inversion or 2.
YAS i remember because this is when I had like 12 earrings going up and down both ears lol and they HURT SO BAD and my neck hurt so bad SP kinda sucked lol
Honestly I completely agree. I was kinda disappointed by Kennywood when I went there in 2019, but I was completely wowed by phantoms revenge in a way I didn’t think I could have been.
Kennywood is only an hour from where I grew up. Used to go at least once every summer on our schools "picnic day" or just with friends, plus Fright Nights. I was too young to ride Steel Phantom before it was changed, but Phantoms Revenge is awesome. I never realized how highly renowned it is in the world of coasters until i started watching coaster vids on youtube. It's true that it's only problem is that it isn't long enough, you just want it to keep going. Its so smooth, and at the end you feel like you are going to fly out of your seat into the bushes. The lift is kinda slow too, but it builds the excitement so I forgive it for that. Kennywood is just a great park, it's fun to be there even if you don't ride very many things. The old wooden coasters are classics and so fun. I haven't ridden Steel Curtain yet but I want to this next season.
First time I visited this park after moving to Pittsburgh from Detroit as a kid, I was absolutely blown away by this psychotic coaster lmfao. I had no idea the 2nd drop was bigger than the first. I mean, its always the first drop being the biggest (from what my experience at the time was)! Shit had me cracking tf up, in between all the screaming hahahahaha
Phantom has been my favorite coaster for pretty much my whole life! The bumps at the end are crazy, more than once I’ve had to grab someone because we nearly flew out of the seats 😅
I’ve ridden this coaster about 8 times having only been to the park twice and I can say it is my number 3 best coaster, behind steel curtain at the same park and velocicoaster at universal
i rode this at the age of 7 when i was JUST tall enough. my mom had to hold me down with her right arm to keep me from flying out of the car because of the ejection. i had loads of fun, and she still says it was one of the scariest moments of her life
About to experience my first ride come Thursday and thanks to your informative and well done video I am holding this coaster to a high standard and I couldn’t be more stoked 🤙
Quite glad I saw this, cause I have lived within walking distance from Kennywood my whole life and definitely have taken it for granted WAY too much. I think I was about 9 or 10 (with my brother either 8 or 9) when we first rode it, and it was instantly my FAVORITE ride growing up. My family would go to Kennywood honestly 5 or 6 times each year, which was WAY more often than most Pittsburgh families, and I would ride the Phantom as many times as I possibly could each time. I particularly remember when I was 12 and rode it 7 times in one day, which was still not enough to satisfy me!! That's also when I began my weird obsession with the unique sound of Arrow chain lifts, because it was just SO unique and "different" and just another reason to love my favorite coaster. Then time went on, I had a field trip to Hershey when I was 14, went to Cedar Point that year as well, and found other coasters to love, and now being 28, Kennywood is just kind of like my old childhood playground that is just so familiar to me, I honestly have trouble remembering it's a highly renowned amusement park. I still find most roller coasters at Cedar Point to be "superior" to the ones at Kennywood, but I know that's just because I milked my obsession with it as a child to the point of it spoiling me, and I always wonder how I'd view Knennywood if I didn't grow up with it.
I was alive for the Laser Loop but too young to ride it. When Steel Phantom came out, I used to lie like I wasn't scared and banged up lol. All these years later, I never made it home during the season to ride Revenge and of course Steel Curtain either.
Great review! I agree the airtime is fantastic. I think phantom on the side of the station is relatively new. I don't think it was there for my 2017 visit (whoops I'm just oblivious). Funny thing about the logo. The current logo wasn't supposed to be the main logo. It was an alternate sold on some merchandise and since it was more popular, it eventually became the main logo.
@@acceleratedcreative Ok thanks! I must just be oblivious. I don't ever remember seeing that. Then again, 2020 was the first time I didn't walk straight into the station.
I'm glad they changed the logo, I like it better than the original. The original was alright, but I just prefer the alternative. Plus that entrance since 👀
Kennywood is unique (in a negative way) in that it's basically "land locked". They can't expand the park in either of four directions. They can only build on the land that they currently have. This is one of the reason's that Phantom's Revenge has to run through the superstructure of the Thunderbolt and couldn't be made longer in regard to track length.
I remember the old version had the restraints that came over your head and after the ride you had a concussion from your head banging left and right on the bars. This versions is way better
my mom has neck issues and would hide her neck brace under her shirt then slip it on on the lift hill to be able to handle the steel phantom, now 20 years later i have to keep correcting myself about its name cause i still call it the steel phantom
The Arrow track remained unchanged from the brake run, station, lift hill, and the first drop, straightaway, and second hill, until the second drop. But Kennywood replaced that Arrow track in 2009 when Chance Rides came in and replaced it all with their track, where the only Arrow track remains is the brake run, station, lift hill, and transfer track. The trains are the same Arrow trains, but with the lapbars and updated fiberglass chassis. Just some fun knowledge :)
I’m late to the party, but the best time to ride this is when it’s raining, or catching it right before the park starts closing rides due to inclement weather. By itself it’s fun as is, but getting blasted by water on it is like a spiritual experience.
I think you may have nailed it on the head and reminded me why I didn't like it.. I understand people love the second half of the ride with all the tiny bunny hills and pops of air, but my (and my friend's) problem was that we rode it when it was brand new in the back row on a warm day with a full train, and neither the 1st or 2nd drop had any pull to them at all. I remember getting so excited when I saw the drop in pics, and I had set all my expectations on that ravine drop - besides having no back seat "pull over" feeling, neither of us got any airtime either. I couldn't get into it after that, as both of us looked at each other and went "meh" at the end of the drop, and that was it. We were in a negative state for the ride and nothing would change that. We unfortunately rode Millennium Force in the back row for our first ride on that too, and that was rubbish. A 300 ft drop with no air time LOL. The front was better overall but it's still the most overrated coaster on the planet.. I consistently see it in the top 5 worldwide awards and I just don't get it.. I have ridden coasters just so much better and they are nowhere to be seen. PR is certainly better than MF for that matter.
I just got 21 rides on it at Kennycon 2021. The park was DEAD due to the thunderstorm in the morning. I got back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back rides in row 7 till I got kicked off the train. It was either a walk on or empty station most of the day. Also my seat belt came unlocked and punched a hole in my Holiwood Nights shirt. So my last ride was without a seat belt though those airtime hills!
Phantoms Revenge train definitely feels and has always felt like the lower wheels under the track are being strictly relied on to prevent the train from flipping upwards off the track on the bunny hills towards the end. That's what the subtle clunking feel, while you are getting the ejector motion. I still prefer and miss the old Steel Phantom- the sudden left turn at the bottom of the big ravine used to be harsher, and I always thought it had a faster feel on those initial hills before the loops.
Only reason why steel phantom felt faster is because the turn it had at the bottom of the ravine stayed lower to the ground. Revenge climbs up immediately into the fan turn after the second hill and kind looses some speed but quickly picks up more speed once you come out of the fan turn and drop back down into the ravine. Personally for me steel phantom was the better ride. It was just more intense and even better to look at as well
I miss the old Phantom. but with that loop going 80+ mph, alot of peoples heads were banging back and fourth off the overhead restraints. My older sisters boyfriend had to leave because his ear ring had ripped out and caused damage to his ear from the force.
There are a hand full of "must rides" in the USA. (not the best, but unique and important) Number 1 (in my opinion) The Beast, 2. Phantom 3. Coney Islands Cyclone, 4. Magnum 5. Expedition Everest
I would change the turn so that halfway through you would come up into a massive airtime hill then the tiny pops and I would make the first drop a little more curved so when you went up the first hill you wouldn’t have to turn this would become one of the greatest airtime moments of all time I think It could be 7 second hill
@@ParkPros some original concept art for the Revenge conversion showed a double up going into that second hill, but I'm not sure if that was intentional or just sort of the artist being a little inaccurate. Either way it would be interesting if they tightened it up to actually produce airtime over the entire thing, the second drop is also surprisingly shallow so if they made that steeper at the same time it really could have been the most insane element of all time. It's still a blast though, and like you said hard to believe it's 30 years old.
As a kid growing up near Pittsburgh I went here all the time! The last time I went and rode the phantoms revenge I was 20 and literally blacked out at the bottom of the hill 😅
My first ride on Phantom's Revenge was the last ride I will ever take on any coaster. That one let me know that it was time to hang it up in my old age. Intense beyond expectations. Still like reading about coasters, tho.
You got me so excited for this ride i cannot wait for kennywood to open this year. I didnt ride the phantom until i was like 14 because i was terrified that i couldnt see the whole thing (i didnt get on the exterminator for the same reason) and the fact that when i went on the thunderbolt you can see the phantom track cutting right above your head going deeper into the ravine out of sight and for some reason in my mind i thought i might die because of that. Its irrational I know, its just how my child brain worked back then. Id only ever ridden wooden coasters at Kennywood and never been on a steel coaster but after i finally rode the phantom i was addicted to thrill rides and the phantom will always be my favorite coaster. Ps i also think its amazing that the Lil phantom is so fun too. I remember back in my kiddieland days when id get on the lil phantom my mom would always get on with me because she said it was really fun for her too.
I used to think my hands would get chopped off on the merry-go-round if you didn't hold on to the bar the right way. i had all sorts of fears when i was young. wouldn't even go on the old mill lol. now, i can't STAAP and i'm a crazy adrenaline junkie lol. what does it all mean lol.
Back in the day I had many rides on Steel Phantom. It was amazing but way too rough. There's actually an episode of the show Cops where they film paramedics attending to a rider.
This is the only hyper coaster I ever rode. I was always afraid of huge coaster as a kid and it carried into my 30s but after finally wanting to face my fears I experienced this thing and it made me a man. I now have hair in my chest and everything. It’s great. For me personally that first drop was more intense than the 2nd one. Maybe it’s because of the turn included which made it feel like I was glued to a chariot straight to hell.
Man, you are one of THE best channels for coaster reviews I do have one suggestion though. I say show a little more passion when doing voiceovers because at times you almost just sounded sleepy
I’m still too scared to ride it. I had a bad experience on roller coasters as a little kid. Now I’m trying to get used to them as an adult; and while it isn’t as traumatizing, I’m still nowhere near ready for one this insane! Definitely recommend you check out the Sky Rocket! I love it!
I can't go on steel rollercoasters ever again. I was forced onto Cheetah Hunt and had a seizure and was yelled at for not riding anything else because the friends I went with refused to go on rides more suitable for my special needs. She said my autism ruined her trip.
It would be awesome if in the middle of the last turnaround it dipped back down and did some airtime hills and then with enough speed all the way back up the ravine.
I LOVE Kennywood! I do agree with him though! I don’t think it should be illegal though I’ve been to kennywood about 10 times through the last 5 years ( a big gap because of Covid) but the ride should have something else for safety because the airtime is INSANE! The belt thing is like a pool noodle in my opinion I think it should be over the shoulders but kennywood is an AMAZING place love it there!
The only problem with Phantom's Revenge is the last part, its a little bump, it throws my back out everytime I ride it and leaves me leaving the park with back pain (I save it as the last ride of the night so that it doesn't hurt me enough to not do anything else)
I loved this ride as a kid but now I actually think this ride is kind of boring and too short. I believe they could've added a third big hill somewhere or at least one more major over banked turn before the bunny hops. I also agree that it goes too fast over the bunny hops since most coasters going at that speed would've had a brake run before going over those small hills. Honestly it goes fast enough they they could technically still have a loop in there that would force you into your seat without the shoulder harnesses without it being dangerous since other coasters including the Steel Curtain that don't have shoulder harnesses go through their inversions much slower.
Saying the lift hill is the main thing that remained unchanged is actually false. The spedometers and height measurements of the 90s were a bit off, up to the turn out of the second drop (before the big overbanked turn that used the same footers as the batwing) is unchanged.
The ride IMO, is short and boring other than the going up the hill before the deep drop, once you go up holl from the deep drop it doesn't do anything but go around in a circle. The Steel Phantom is the best by far due to the 4 loop/twist. I was told people had headaches. I could deal with a little short headache to a more fun ride. The ride is too short, unlike other rides, but Kennywood is a small park, so the coasters are really short. As a kid up to probably 25, I didn't realize it. I love the food, and the picnice part of it with family and games
It felt like my neck was going to snap, that's how hard it whips you around after those two drops. I thought to myself after getting off of it..."Am I just a limp person or is that coaster just really aggressive?".
I was able to experience the original a year or so before it was modified. I find it funny you think the phantoms revenge should almost be illegal after the likely concussions i had after riding the original 😂
IF They added 1000 feet of track then the ride wouldnt haul over the bunnyhops as much sidenote the second bunnyhill has like 3 seconds of airtime in the back row its insane
my favorite part about this is that you rode with only half capacity and still found it insane could only imagine your reaction if you ride it at night with a full train 😂
Surprisingly they held me back good! I really felt like I was gonna fall out but I stay secure enough the whole ride! Definitely a good touch to the amazing ride.
I just visited Kennywood for the second time on a 91 degree day and got 8 rides in on my visit, 6 being night rides and they were AMAZING!!!! It was running so fast in the heat and riding this coaster in the dark was just insane!!! 🤯 On my first visit several years ago, I rode it twice and while it was amazingly violent, it was no where near my recent rides. Definitely moved from a top 30 to a top 10 for me. If you can get a night ride on this in the summer, absolutely do it! They were open till 10 last week!
> there is no reason you should be taking these hills at this speed. Right when you said it, those 2 little bumps were the remnants of the track when it had the loop, and you needed the speed for the loop. Those 2 bumps and the fact they couldn't eliminate them properly is one of the reasons I'm not as much of a fan of it as the original. The original was quite smooth, despite being a neckbreaker.
It's interesting to hear someone else expose the Morgan hypers for the crap they are - thank you - although I didn't like this one either TBH. For me personally, Phantom's Revenge and Millennium Force are the two most overrated coasters ever. I rode phantom's revenge in the back seat in June 2001. PS, Steel Force was Steel shit to us LOL.
I prefer it to El Toro by a noticeable bit although I did not get the best rides on El Toro, my morning ride was much better than my night ride which is just weird

Yaas patty i'm trying to appreciate kennywood more. i LOVE hershey and the theming and Cedar Point but Kennywood is my home.
this ride's airtime compressed my spine
Rode this so many times. That 2nd drop is intense in person.
The speed at the bottom is crazy!
@eabstergaming - roblox I think In the back. It has a lot of airtime. Night time rides are pretty fun as well.
@eabstergaming front
@eabstergaming Front gets the speed and positives G's back gets mega air both seats are great just depends what you are looking for
I know
I was alive for the Laser Loop but too young to ride it.
The phantom on the station has been there since 2000..
Plus that entrance since 👀
Thank you! From what I've seen I like the alternate logo too, but I agree that this one looks great.
I held on for dear life on that double down when I did back row in 2018.
so glad to be from pittsburgh. You fly on this coaster and the park itself is amazing
I’m late to the party, but the best time to ride this is when it’s raining, or catching it right before the park starts closing rides due to inclement weather. By itself it’s fun as is, but getting blasted by water on it is like a spiritual experience.
I love your reviews! I rode Phantom last weekend…This coaster is insane. It’s my number three overall, and beats coasters like Lrod and Maverick.
Yo that small change you made to the intro slaps so much harder it's shocking. I actually started the video over just to see it again.
Haha thank you!
Went to KW yesterday for the first time. I wasn't too excited about PR, but ended up loving it. Only wish I would have ridden it a second time.
Cannot wait to get a ride on this next year! Great video and excited to see the rest of your trip!!!
Thank you man! Appreciate the love
It was just more intense and even better to look at as well
My nine year old granddaughter rode it a couple days ago. Loved it.
I wonder if they considered any reprofiling like that when they re-designed it.
God, I missed the most epic intro in the community
😉
I would of never of guessed the coaster I grew up as a kid to me a the big one is such a fantastically designed coaster
The standard Morgan restraints are amazing imo
They're... fine.
These are much much better.
The bars and buckles are so fun
This is the only hyper coaster I ever rode. I was always afraid of huge coaster as a kid and it carried into my 30s but after finally wanting to face my fears I experienced this thing and it made me a man. I now have hair in my chest and everything. It’s great. For me personally that first drop was more intense than the 2nd one. Maybe it’s because of the turn included which made it feel like I was glued to a chariot straight to hell.
Great video. This is such an underrated coaster!!
That 2:30 ad has massive FNAF 3 vibes
Man, you are one of THE best channels for coaster reviews
I do have one suggestion though. I say show a little more passion when doing voiceovers because at times you almost just sounded sleepy
Thank you! Will do, pretty sure I was sleepy when I recorded this 😂 I'll chug a red bull next time.
An over banked turn is a turn with greater than 90 degrees banking.
Congratulations. Your bait got a new subscriber. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the sub!
Highly underrated
It would be awesome if in the middle of the last turnaround it dipped back down and did some airtime hills and then with enough speed all the way back up the ravine.
I LOVE Kennywood! I do agree with him though! I don’t think it should be illegal though I’ve been to kennywood about 10 times through the last 5 years ( a big gap because of Covid) but the ride should have something else for safety because the airtime is INSANE! The belt thing is like a pool noodle in my opinion I think it should be over the shoulders but kennywood is an AMAZING place love it there!
Didn’t ride it yet; I was too big of a chicken lmao! I’m going inn a few days, and I’m 110% game to ride it! It seems like a BLAST!! 😆
Phantom is amazing! Too bad you missed out on steel curtain though
Gives me a reason to get back!
Gotcha, good to know.
I heard from some websites, phantom was ranked 8th
That's a pretty consistent ranking for Phantom in most US coaster polls.
It's the coaster. Not you.
I was able to experience the original a year or so before it was modified. I find it funny you think the phantoms revenge should almost be illegal after the likely concussions i had after riding the original 😂
when you realize the background song is used on lightning run
Didn't even notice that!
IF They added 1000 feet of track then the ride wouldnt haul over the bunnyhops as much
sidenote the second bunnyhill has like 3 seconds of airtime in the back row its insane
my favorite part about this is that you rode with only half capacity and still found it insane
could only imagine your reaction if you ride it at night with a full train 😂
I didn't even think about that... now I'm legitimately terrified of this thing lol
i cannot believe you do not wild thing at valleyfair... that first camelback is a airtime nuclear explosion
Must have never ridden the original Steel Phantom, to come up with that title.
Haha the restraints look like a pool noodle! :)
They totally do!
Surprisingly they held me back good! I really felt like I was gonna fall out but I stay secure enough the whole ride! Definitely a good touch to the amazing ride.
Yo I went in this at least 30 times in my life and the more u ride it the less scary. But the new scary ride is the steel curtain!
How the fuck did YOU get to ride stuff at night. They kick everybody out at 9. Unfair!
> there is no reason you should be taking these hills at this speed.
The trains still use the old arrow chassis which is way the cars are designed like that.
I rode this tonight and wow the airtime I got the whole time
I still miss it as Steel Phantom
I didn't watch the video yet but I love Phantoms Revenge
None of the turns are overbanked
For a company like Morgan the phantoms revenge's pretty surprising
Top 3 in the world right here
Me watching this video in 2021 as it’s the number 2 coaster in the USA
Riding phantom without seatbelts is the best.
This ride has the best restraint
It's interesting to hear someone else expose the Morgan hypers for the crap they are - thank you - although I didn't like this one either TBH. For me personally, Phantom's Revenge and Millennium Force are the two most overrated coasters ever. I rode phantom's revenge in the back seat in June 2001. PS, Steel Force was Steel shit to us LOL.
Morgan is underrated
my #1 for a reason... oh wait. nvm its now #2. FORGOT #1 TORO
Phantom has Toro-levels of airtime.
I prefer it to El Toro by a noticeable bit although I did not get the best rides on El Toro, my morning ride was much better than my night ride which is just weird
@@howenator I did for like 2 years until Toro hauling this year during Hallowfest.
Kennywood on a good day is great, but on a bad day it sucks
I just told my friend after riding it this weekend that this coaster is wayyyyy too short
