Can we talk about how insane Elizabeth’s editing is?!?!

Your watch looks new because it’s been well serviced. It has a Swiss made service dial which is a replacement for the Tritium dial it originally came with. You can tell service dials because of the half size markers at 28,29,31,32. The bezel is also a service replacement because it does not have a flat 4 at 40 and usually when a service dial is fitted the bezel will be swapped also. This is why the watch appears as new. Lovely piece. Vintage is probably better for you because all of the modern watches with solid bracelets and solid end links are 2x heavier which your unlikely to enjoy. Service a watch like this (as your example has been) and it will outlast you. Superb item.

Fear not. Omega will hold up very well after many years. I have one from 1944 (yes, not mispelled) plus my Seamaster 300, and life is good with them both!

What other 'product' can be 30 years old and look brand new? ...

  • @joefisher7431

Love when women are into fishing, cars, and watches. That's why i married my wife of 30 years. She's rolex fan, I'm more Omega man.😊😊

Yes! I can confirm that these Submariners are tough! They last a lifetime. I bought my submariner when I was 27, I'm now 70. The last service was about 8 years ago and when it came back the accuracy was about +1 per day. It's in excellent condition, there's a scratch or crack at the 10 o clock when I was caring for my mom: when she fell while using her walker, I rushed & managed to grab her before she fell onto the ground - I knocked my wrist (the submariner) against a wall hard. I've other watches so part of the reason for it's good condition is I've usually worn the others. So, have no concerns for anyone who is thinking of getting a submariner.

The 14060 two-liner is the last classic Sub and might be the best do-it-all watch ever made. Mine is from the 90s as well, it never had a service, it never misses a beat and it is still water-tight, for swimming easily. Being a watch fan and not knowing about Rolex and looking at its endless back catalogue with awe is a huge mistake, for anyone.

  • @austinzizzi1142

The fact they they could make the new subs with matte dials and matte ceramic bezels but choose to keep it shiny to try to make it appear more of a luxury object and less of a tool is sad

Elizabeth is going to buy a vintage Rolex Submariner in 3…2…1…. My now “vintage” Rolex Submariner 16610 is easily my most worn watch.

And this is what is so special about a watch passed on by a beloved family member. Love, memory and time.

My father had a gold Rolex Datejust which he bought in the early 60’s. My mother nearly strangled him because he bought it instead of a house. Since his passing, my brother wears it and it looks like new. Amazing devices, Rolex.

The Two Liner Submariner (16040) is a beautiful watch the dial is clean without to much text on it and the size is just right, it is also a perfect blend between the vintage Submariners and the new Submariners. I have had one since 2014 and have worn it a lot, mine is from 1991. I like vintage Rolex much more than the new stuff.

It's always special when one gets to handle a well loved and cared for timepiece. Only a great friend would provide this kind of pleasure; a classic beauty, it looks great on your wrist!

  • @wkanost

If you service and take good care of any watch, it will last a lifetime. I’m 60 years old. On my wrist right now is a 1982 Seiko 7A28 speed timer. It’s been serviced twice and had the gasket replaced. I bought it new when I was 19. It’s still beautiful and looks like I bought it last year. If you take care of your passion, it will be with you as long as you’d like it to be.

I have my dad's 1981 day/date President. It still runs about +2 per day. It was his daily wear. It has few nicks and the bracelet is quite "jangly". It doesn't get a lot of wrist time (a bit austentatious for a country parson), but it is a joy to wear. It feels so solid. The 36mm case is perfect and actually helps downplay the gold. Dad's still alive and is glad to know the watch is still being worn. Rolex has s something about it that lies beyond price or status. I hope you find that perfect Rolex.

I am saving up for a 124060 sub. The main reason for going for the newest Sub is mainly that I want a Submariner that only I have worn, but also because of the technical specifications.

No date subs are the epitome of less is more. Truly elegant but ever functional. Great review Elizabeth!
