Gain is about more than distortion.
Gain pedals tend to come in 3 different varieties and they are not all distortion. The interaction between the volume on your pickups and the level of gain on your pedal have a huge impact on your breakup.
I have been using the Red Snapper Overdrive from Menatone for over 20 years because it works for me in creating a great base clean tone that allows for me to dial in as much crunch as I want. Great for rock and funk playing, and the classic tones that I’m looking for.
