What's your favorite part of Jake's setup? or Kait's setup?
Drums setup
the fact that their studio house has been compartmentalized into dedicated spaces. no wasted space.
My favorite part is all of his kit and snare choices.
Yes
I love how the files are in the computer
A young Ron Swanson.
Pre saxophone
@@AndrewMasters Pre jaded bitterness. lol!!!
Before he was the world renowned Duke silver
A real GRAND PIANO, you don’t see that in many home studios. I’m impressed.
Two grand pianos, at that! It's a beautiful place.
Love this guy, what a dynamic personality. His studio is full of goodies!!
I’m originally born and raised in KC.MO. So him representing the vintage KC Royals “85”championship shirt is a plus!!!
Dang. Never noticed all that beautiful outboard recording gear in his drum videos! 😍
The knife holder for kick drum beaters is genius.
boom.
We love you Jake (aka Ron Swanson)! You are one of Andy's best guests on his series :) It was VERY enjoyable to see your wonderful space. Kait is a BEAST as well! Power couple.
Amen! You guys are awesome.
Thanks, Ariana!
The validation is strong with this one. For my basement studio in the works, I typically run drums with 6 mics- overheads, kick, snare, and 2 toms, similarly ditching the hihat and snare bottom. Similar mics to the 414s on toms, and I stumbled onto the same ND868 for the kick. Minimal plugins, just getting it as right as possible going into the computer helps a ton. Then again, I go the other way, too- live sound at church, I do snare top/bottom, kick in/out, and mics on each of the cymbals with no overheads.
This was a solid and inspiring video about making real music!
Andrew sir,you are the god of music studio showcase videos.
Around the 25:30 mark Jake jokes about stealing something when there's a police officer outside in the background... just a funny coincidence
I would not get bored in that house!
Time passes very quickly in there!
There’s so much more to his space than he showed on his channel, awesome video!
This is the full keyboard and drum experience!
Yes she is fantastic. That was an awesome jam out.
I don´t know much about anything, but the mustaches are getting stronger and stronger in the 2020´s...
Fantastic collection of drums!!!!
The Groove Doctor himself! 🔥 Also: the best hair in the business 👏
this guys hilarious 😂
thank you for sharing, you are great!
Nice studio, first thing I noticed was the cathedral pipes mic...
Love Jake’s playing and persona.
Kait's setup is NUTS
It’s so good
Jake Reed and Andrew Masters in the same video? My week is complete.
Nice name!
I've been trying to do this since I was 15!! Can't wait to build my house for the forever studio.
Man he ain't messing' around with the mic choices.😳
"Good stuff, brotheRRR"
Great drum mic'ing lesson, in fact...food for thought. Ribbons for room mics! Love it.
Maaaaan, this is HEAVEN.
love the stache
Very impressive! Beautiful grand piano. Beautiful studio. Love, Love Love these tours!
Thank you!
Another great home studio tour! Love the gear chats, love jakes channel, thank you both!
Thanks dude
Getting strong Zack Galifianakis vibes off this man.. love these videos, keep it up!
Hold up. Is there a cop car outside? 26:31
Now that mustache makes sense. Lol
Dude these studio tours are great! I just ordered those LED clouds from the last vid
Enjoyed the walkthrough on drum collection. Wish I could grow a thick mustache like that.
His Kansas City Royals shirt.....I was at that parade and 2015 too! That shirt is priceless!!!!!!
Wooo!!! Go Chiefs!!!
Jake seems like a really fun guy lol
He’s awesome
Nice Cody Fry in the backround! love it! The studio too of course :)
Heck yeah thanks!
the wife is a killer pianist!
Yeah Kait can shred!
Love this drum mic setup.......I gotta get a couple of those bomblets. As always great studio tour, great job!!!!
Thanks dude! Jake’s setup rocks.
Amazing drum mics then has a P16 right behind it lolol.
This is a great series Andrew!! Keep em coming.
Thanks!
This dude should have a cartoon character of his own. I laffed all the way through his tour his gaff. He was so interesting and ad-libs were off the chart😅. Making music should be fun fun fun just like his narration of his music studio 😂😂😂
A tip for room mics that stuck with me is lower them to get a darker sound and raise them to get a brighter sound. Might be obvious but thought I would share.
That's totally a thing! However, my room is pretty small so for me it's more about where the room mics sound usable lol ... too low and it messes with the stereo image of the kit/some weird frequencies start to pop out ... too high and I start to lose the beefiness (is that a word?) of the drums.
Jake Reed totally understand. I’ve been stuck on my cascade fathead ribbon mics. Love the way your mics sound too. Might give them a try. Thank you.
Great man
I'm only just starting to dip my toes into recording after years of acoustic-only playing so the geeky stuff is way over my head at the moment, but it's amazing to see and hear your excitement about sounds!
Man I love this guy lol
80s movie sidekick moustache
Sweet studio!!
AWESOME! HAHAHAHAHA Jake is hella cool, sweet setup too~
I cannot stress the things I would do for that Wurlitzer.
Looooove a good wurli.
OMG!!!! Dude's wife is NO F'N JOKE on the keys!!!!!!! DAMN! Smh... Wow.
Dude you have GOT to get a tour of Adam Young's (owl city) studio in Minnesota... it's absolutely incredible! Definitely reach out to him
This is by far the coolest setup for a home studio situation. The things I would do to have the amount of gear available. The door alone is a solid investment.
When do you get your TV deal, bro? Haha. This is a killer series.
In comparison to Jake's setup I have the bare minimum needed (well, maybe not the barest minimum). Sometimes that's all you need though. The biggest hurdle is figuring out and getting your ear in tune for mixing/mastering. (Biggest hurdle for me at least)
I know their home setup is fantastic. Haha I’d settle for someone to take b roll for me.
I just realized part of my comment got cut off. Weird.
Loving these videos!
Thanks, me too!
@@AndrewMasters same!
Love these! Great stuff!
Thanks
Dude! Didn't know Ron Swanson could drum like that!
This dudes my fave
Fans squad
Loved this
This is one of my favorite people
Gotta love the Ace Ventura reference... :D
I'm glad somebody got the reference lol.
@@JakeReedmusic Alrighty Then!
yes!
Jake's snares..liked and subbed on his channel
Right?? That's awesome, his channel is great.
Thanks!
Cool.. stay safe and keep up the good work Jake!
incredible house/studio! love this man!!!
Same!
Awesome.
Thanks!
I want this guy to be my best friend.
same
Like how the hardware is described. I'm not sure I missed it. but, I'm wondering about the patch bay that is being used. I'll be needing to purchase one here very soon. thanks. Any suggestions?
Your eyes!!
Love the picture of John Von Ohlen!
Me too! He was a very important mentor to me when I was going to the conservatory in Cincinnati!
@@JakeReedmusic I kick myself for not making it down to Cincinnati to see him play when I was just an hour away. I’m thankful that I’ve been able to hear a number of great VO stories from my teacher, Jim Leslie.
@@cordrummer Luckily there are many great recordings of him. Please say "hi" to Jim for me! You've got a great teacher!
If you look at the window you'll se a cop car. What the cop doin tho?
It was the jazz police 🚔
3:53 when he said that I got excited tho srsly
Is Jake from Kansas City, Mo. home of the 1985 World Champion Kansas City Royals - thus the tee-shirt?
Indeed I am!
Kick drums always sound bigger in a corner because of the energy collected in corners
When I grow up, I wanna be like Jake.
Man I would love to record my music there.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yes
So cool to see someone actually using a mojave mic. There are hardly any videos on UA-cam of people who actually use a mojave mic other than those official videos from mojave. I use a 201 fet and it sounds incredible. I recently bought a tlm103 and was so disappointed with the mic. My 201 sounded much better for my set up. If I had a better room I’m sure the 103 would sound great, but it was too live for my already sound treated room.
nice album! that reed between the lines!
yeah man, apart from the studios, I'm diggin checking some of these folks work, keep it up!
@@Triquifliqui Thanks!!!
You can use an iPad from the drums to arm tracks, arm and record and make adjustments from one seat.
I tried that a while back but there was a lot of lag and pro tools also just gets weird sometimes. The additional blue tooth keyboard seems to be working pretty smoothly though! It's the best solution I've found so far.
Jake Reed I used the Ipad to solve the walking back and forth between the desk and the instrument problem. When they were connected it worked great, but after an update it started getting glitchy?,.....go figure? When it worked, I found it much more useful because you had all your I/O’s and plugins right there too. For a drummer/engineer it seems ideal. On another note,......For electric guitars the UAOX has been a huge game changer.
@@scottbaxendale323 yeah, I tried using logic for a minute and had "logic remote" running on my ipad. It just wasn't quite making it for me. I've been using pro tools for years and having an extra keyboard and track pad has been working great from across the room!
Perhaps you can share your thoughts regarding the KRK V8 S4's.
Meme Dogs
Also if you did not catch it (ua-cam.com/video/yAHpuEElmA0/v-deo.html), he and his wife both have their doctorates in music AND they are both extremely talented sessions players. These guys know their business.
Not only did Jake get Mr. Erskine's Drum Set from the 80's, He got his Mustache as well!! ...lol...
Cool studio, How do you set the drum sound to be in the same room?
LMAO is there a cop outside the window??
Sweet setup. Is Jake a cast member of Reno 911...?
Already been on "Jake´s most awesome studio department tour " ( lucky to get one of the last tickets,- hardly any left,- almost all sold out),- dare I say,- his wife Kait´s though,- on a whole other level,- man, that synth collection is to die for!
Why?,- I hear you ask..
Well, it´s the real hardware versions,- not just a binary recreation emulating the real thing giving you a nice picture to look at on a computer screen... Yes, there is a most tactile difference!...
My wife is a martial artist,- so she´d need her own dojo in our house in keeping with this idea of accomodating all your need in one house...
Sometimes I wonder whether we all are musicians ( insert your preferred art form here) with families and houses around us,- but sometimes only there as a sort of afterthought, - or whether we´re actually real people with real lives who also do music ( insert your preferred art form here).
It´s quite a mystery........
It’s a simulation!
@@AndrewMasters
A red pill / blue pill situation, I guess.... ? :)
Ulf Danielsen I’m with Andrew ... simulation all the way.
@@JakeReedmusic
My wife won´t be happy to hear she´s a simulation,- binaries with emotions?
Uncanny........
"Wall of snares." :'(
I have 7 total working snares lol. 3 6.5"x14", 1 6"x10", 1 5"x14", and 2 5.5"x14". 3 DW Collector's Series, 1 DW Design Series, 1 PDP, 1 Ludwig Acrolite from June 10, 1969(Keystone Badge), and 1 Pearl Export Series
Can you talk about power conditioning at some point (if you have not).
ayy another drummer with a golf R
Random question - what's the make and model of AC split conditioner? any issues running that while tracking? Great video!!
It's a Fujitsu ... not sure of the model, but yes, I turn it off while tracking and then blast it in between on hot days.
He spent a fortune on the drum mics then has a P16 for IEM lolol...gotta love it!
Ha! yeah, really good monitoring systems are so expensive though! And besides, the client doesn't care what it sounds like in my in ear monitors ... would rather spend the money on buying more good mics!
bring a controller over to the drum set ok just got to the part with the second keyboard
What's up with the COPS in the background ?
So Nice 💘💘💘💘💘💘
Zach Galifianakis? This guy's a character.
Nice XD
Planning to create a studio and start channel, please me out yall
Hey so I have a radial reamp box and a UA arrow interface, so I'm pretty sure I can reamp audio from my ableton into guitar pedals right? Any clue on how to do so?
Send Line level signal output to radial box. Microphone on amp to arrow mic pre input.
This dude rules! Also, are we going to ignore his wife talking to the police outside? haha
Not his wife, it’s a neighbor complaint about another neighbor. Just happened to be in frame
...23:50 --- someone's getting busted outside the window!!!...
Dat woofer tho.
totally.
@@AndrewMasters WOOF
