when we farmed and keep the tractors in the shed over the winter we put a coat of johnson wax on the sheet metal and then put an old blanket on the gas tank then covered it with a small military surplus canvas tarp this stops the condensation. if we had to leave our tractors out side we did this as well
Great looking tractor...if the gas tank is the only issue...simple remedy...just will take some time. Great fine...most likely limited use over the years. I’m a JD guy but really appreciate the old Farmalls...good tractors.
Yep manual tells you to keep a full tank. Even tells you to fill the ta k at the end of the work day. Nice set up. I was thinking that was more of a finish mower than a brush cutter. Looks like it did good. Everything sounds like it ran pretty smooth.
An old man told me years ago when a vehicle or tractor is in storage to remove the fuel cap and make it so rain water cant get in and it keeps the tank from condensating and it wont rust. At the time i thought it was bs but over the years i have got things that the fuel cap had been off of and sat for years and the tanks were dry and clean so maybe he was right. The fuel evaporates over time so there was no varnish in the tank.
Hello Gino that's funny posting public land I would take there sign down. Mine mine mine lol your hilarious awesome. I could be wrong but I'm thinking he kept that tank full most of the time empty 18 years I'm think that be junk. Good video works great have a good evening.
Maybe he thought the rust would always stay settled and by making a standpipe so to speak he could avoid rust in carb…just spit ballin, she is a sweet little rig, as always FF good job💪🏻🇺🇸💪🏻
12 volt conversion is the best way! Battery cheap, choice and reliability of alternators is quite good.. I use 12 volt sprayer on mine for yard and driveway vegetation maintenance.
I had some rust in my Cub when I got it and basically what I did was I just used the tractor and eventually the rust worked itself out of the tank, Into the sediment bowl and then when I would see it there I would take the sediment bowl dump it out put it back and keep going, And so far I haven't really gotten a whole lot of junk into the sediment ball recently or at least this summer and Spring so I'm not super worried about it, And I don't know if that is something you could do with it
Hillside Hilter? Sounds like you have interesting neighbours. Motormouth? I say motor on. If it bothers them that much, they don't have to watch. But I like to hear it, and I'm sure I'm not alone. That's a nice tractor that little cub. Shell Rotella is one of the best engine oils you can buy. We used it for years until Shell got stupid to deal with.
Sounds like you need to remove tank, steam clean and proceed with what you have been talking about, put the filter on first, then put your fuel in. I had that problem with two M's that I have.
The channel "Taryl Fixes All" just did a tank repair with a paint that fixed even pinhole leaks, I didn't catch the paint type but it looked good after he painted the tank inside and out with it. Make sure your in-line filter placement is not near the hot exhaust, Plastic ones can melt and leaks at the connections can happen.
It seemed to do the job really well . I was thinking you were going to have some issues running with the tank and filter but it seemed to have done pretty well . Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day !
when you take it off to clean it there is some different ways I know of a lot of people using metal BBs and I've seen them even hook them up to a tractor tire or a truck and jack it up and strap the tank and put it in drive so they sat there and spin around and around and around and you wouldn't believe how clean they get I watched a video where they got an 806 Farmall diesel out of the woods and the tank was just full of rust and that's how they cleaned it they washed it out put it back on the tractor and the tractor ran fine
Depending on how long they were using the land and if the city wasn’t maintaining it they might have a case of adverse possession under state law. All states have laws regarding taking ownership of property by using it (knowing or not knowing that you don’t have legal ownership) for a certain amount of time without the proper owner disputing it causing the title to transfer.
I had a second cousin who's husband had her Dad's cub and basically all the equipment to raise cotton and corn that Uncle Noah bought new in the late 40's or early 50's but I haven't seen it in almost 40 years but it was all in the shed at that time. I wished that my dad and I had tried to buy it then. UNCLE Noah had a small farm in the Boston Mountain area near Mt. Magazine Arkansas He transferred to a cow-calf beef operation in the 1960's Sorry that I don't know the status of it now so sad.
also one other thing I don't know if you watch junkyard digs his UA-cam channel he had a Farmall h with a rusty tank he also put the tube up in the tank where it stuck like an inch and a half off the floor it wouldn't get all the gas but like he said all the settlement will go to the bottom and normally bypass it
I eliminated rust particles in my tank with a “mechanic’s extendable magnet”. Just set it in to the tank and move it around remove and wipe the magnet clean. 👍🏻

If you want to clean that tank, empty all gas out, put a fitting in place of the sediment bowl shut off with a piece of tubing to let it drain, tie the tubing up to keep it from draining. fill it with white vinegar. Let it set for two days, then drain it, you will see nice clean galvanized inside the tank, the rust will be gone.
Take the tank right off toss a handful or two of 1/2 inch nuts in the filler hole...put the cap on it and shake and roll the hell out of it knock as much rust loose as ya can and break it up. Then shake all the nuts and dust out...flush it with some solvent or diesel fuel..let it dry or just mount it and fill it and get to work... a small trace diesel fuel wont hurt a gas engine...if anything it'll help the jets and rings.
