  • In this Jazz Drum Q-Tip of the Week, I am celebrating the life of drummer great Aaron Spears by reacting to his Zildjian Live! performance. I also talk about his life and career to make sure everyone really knows how extraordinary he truly was. Though he only lived to age 47, Aaron Spears has left an indelible mark on the music community around the world, especially the drumming community. His legacy will live on through his music. I send my deepest condolences and prayers to his family and those who were close to him. Rest in Power brother Aaron (1976-2023)

I can't believe Mr. Spears is gone forever.... I never got the honor to meet him but I felt his true kindness and authenticity through his music and moment I've watch of him. My favourite drummer for sure. All my love and sympathy to Mr. Aaron Spears's family and close ones.

Thanks so much for honoring him, Quincy. Everyone knows what a bad cat he was on his chosen instrument, but he was also one of the nicest people one could ever hope to cross paths with. Almost impossibly humble and real. He had so much to teach us both as a player and a human being. That Zildjian LIVE! performance is legendary, of course, for very good reason! Thanks again!

Man, it was such a sad day when the news broke. An amazing talent, clearly loved by so many people. Watching Larnell Lewis react to that drum break was priceless, a real measure of Aaron's talent. Lovely tribute, Q.

Spanish Ned here. Thank you Quincy for this video and your caring. It is always sad to see someone pass away so young and more so when they are very special, so creative and inspiring like Aaron Spears. This video also makes me want to hear more music by him. Take care of yourself too. RIP Aaron

I grew up universes away from gospel music, but fell in love with it because of Aaron Spears. That's what happens when you are truly motivated by God to be your very best, as he was. I can only thank him from the bottom of my heart. 💔

I only knew him by name. Thx you Quincy for your dear orbituary for Aaron ( which is a biblical name I just read:
« Aaron is a boy's name of Hebrew origin, meaning “mountain of strength, exalted, strong.” Aaron has a steadfast and enduring quality, inspiring stability and strength even in the darkest of times. This Biblical title belonged to the brother of Moses and Miriam and the Israelites' first high priest ».
This name suited perfectly to him !🙏🏻🙏🏻🌈💫
