    it came with the ATV. originally it did not have a witch mount or anything, it was raised and lowered by a hand lever. It was also to rusted when i bought it to make out the brand, so i ended up wire wheeling it and painting it.
    See my ATV winch video to see how it works :)

    I used a honda 250 sx and a 250 big red and a 250 ex to plow snow for many years. I had a weight box on the back and it worked fine. 4x4 does work better for turning and shit but learn your machine and giver shit! Great vid

    Does well even with those tires. A set of V-bar chains will really keep you going but maybe a bad idea on paved surfaces. I only plow gravel surfaces.

    This was a great video. We have a 1995 Suzuki 2x4 250 quad runner and are looking for a snow plow kit for a small work area to plow out. Do you have any recommendations on what kind of plow kit would be good? Thanks again for the video. Great job.

      I no longer use this ATV, i now drive a TRX300FW (4x4).
      (ua-cam.com/video/HxZDo5GMhPs/v-deo.html)
      i struggled to find a cheap plow that would fit my TRX300FW, so i ended up just buying a older, 2000 Polaris 500 manual lift plow (the hand lever ones) and just making my own mounting hardware for the bottom of my atv out of sheet steel, U-bolts, and pins, using the winch to raise and lower it.
      Only cost me like $100 for Plow and parts, but like 2 weekend days to "fabricate" it + welding cost (electric and wire)

    At least your fourtrax is still in great condition, the chain on my 200sx rolled of and punched a hole in my crank case and the case bent in word pressing against my gear indicator neutral switch, breaking the that. Du to the two missing bolts holding my rear axle on. So beware of that.

    Thanks for the video! I think you've saved me from spending unnecessary money. I was given a 97 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4 with a plow. It needed some TLC and about $650 in parts. It now runs well but the 4wd doesn't work reliably. The previous owner ran it with bad front wheel bearings and they ate into the hub so the magnetic 4X4 actuators are too weak to engage the front hubs. I was going to buy new struts to replace the worn parts but they're pricey. After seeing this, I suspect my rig will plow just fine seeing it weighs twice as much and has meatier tires than your set up. I have to plow quite a bit of gravel, too, so I've installed a 1.5" PVC Drain pipe over the plow blade. (Cut a slot length wise and slid it over the blade) I'm not concerned with a perfect clean but rather just to remove most of the snow while not disturbing the gravel. That PVC should help reduce friction, too.

      Glad it helped.
      Good luck!
      I will say since I upgraded to my trx300fw(4x4) it's so much nicer, so eventually, one day, repair that baby and get the 4x4 working again :)

  • @94SexyStang
    @94SexyStang 8 років тому +2

    Engine size or 4x4 really doesn't make "that" big of a difference for plowing...you're still pushing with an ATV frame..which has Limitations in weight....VS a Truck Frame per say. As long as you're pushing on a fairly flat surface, 2x4 is ALL you need. The only time 4x4 is going to be useful is when you're pushing alittle Beyond the 2x4 traction capabilities, or riding on Inclined surfaces or something that would cause traction loss.

    • @CRISPY0001
      @CRISPY0001 7 років тому

      Agree! Most ATV's have enough torque to push the snow. Like you say it's more about traction. I have 2wd with tire chains and a milk crate on the back rack full of spare chain and heavy stuff. Works great! Sure beats shovelling!

    The other day I had to plow 12 inches of wet sloppy snow on my sportsman 570 it was so heavy that the winch cable broke bringing plow up and took 4 runs and different blade heights along the same path to get stuff done not somthing you could do with a 2 wheel drive also put 100 pounds of rock salt on back for traction

  • @G3TAcademy

    2 or 3 inches isn't really heavy snow. IMO

    • @4.6_boat

      Yeah I sure plowed heavy snow last season. I actually tried plowing with the 4x4 deactivated. It worked fine for the most part. If anything, having good tires will be essential.
      Can't wait for this season.

    • @SPCLPONY
      @SPCLPONY 6 років тому +1

      2 or 3" of wet snow is pretty heavy. This sure beats using a shovel, and is much faster than a snow blower. I'd say this was pretty good snow removal without tire chains on. I like the way the snow rolls off of your blade. Mines pretty rusty and doesn't shed snow that way anymore.

    • @SPCLPONY
      @SPCLPONY 5 років тому +2

      Haha, watched this video without realizing I already saw it last year and also commented on it. Still enjoyed seeing it a second time. Love those 200SX's. That was my first ATV. I went to a new 87' TRX250X that I still have. It is also a 2 wheel drive sport/trail machine. It came with a 42" Cycle Country plow and tire chains. And yes, it does a pretty good job on sidewalks all the way around my block up to about 4" of wet heavy snow if I keep going. Any amount of fluffy light snow hasn't been a problem. The neighbors love it when I fly by their house clearing the sidewalks. All they do is sprinkle some salt after I go by.

    • @SPCLPONY
      @SPCLPONY 4 роки тому

      Jan 2020 and posting here for the third year. I finally sanded and painted the face of my 42" Cycle Country 'sidewalk' plow, and what a difference it made. I've plowed twice this season with 2" and 3" of snow. The snow rolls off of the plow now like it did in your video. I posted elsewhere in another video about a third attempt this year without success. Heard we were getting sleet turning into snow overnight. They said 6" to 8".... so I put my rear chains on. Woke up to about 7" and still coming down. The sleet was iced under the wet snow making it heavy. Then add the plow trucks passing by throwing a little more wet snow on top of that. Needless to say, I got to the corner and couldn't get any further. Had to resort to the snow blower. I even broke a auger sheer pin during the hour I used it. Looking at put a 42" Craftsman plow blade on my 4x4 Yamaha 350 Big Bear for such occasions. I have chains for all four tires on that one.

Regardless, in your case, no I would not recommend a 2x4 to try and plow in that environment, and you are better off with a setup like your, although i would add studs to yours for the ice.

      for the plow?
      They were included originality when i purchased the atv.
      All they really are are a large bracket that mount to the two bolts that connect the A-arm to the frame, and goes down to the flat frame piece that rests on the frame of the atv (also same plate that the plow hooks on to)
      You can see it in my other video here:

    • @Orvis25
      @Orvis25  10 років тому

      honestly i let gravity hold the plow down. I do not have any plow skids or plow raising brackets, i took mine off so it was flat on the ground when it was down.
      My best recommendation would be put a brick or two on there mounting bracket were it attaches to the plow to help hold it down.

      Put chains on the tires and some extra weight on the back rack...no problem.
      Or...deflate your rear tires as much as possible. I know because I did it with that exact ATV. However finding a mount for it may not be easy. I have a swisher blade and they don't make a mount for the old Hondas.
      Do a mid-frame mount if you can...front mounting doesn't work well...your ATV will try to drive over the plow when it catches and it pulls on the winch hard!

      when i did this video i ended up in third gear by the time i hit about 5 miles an hour.
      i always start in first, and try to plow in second, i only went to third here because it was such a long stretch.
      Good luck to you and thanks for subscribing :-)
