My ex husband was in the military hospital when he served in the army... Willie was in town to play at the rodeo. Willie went to every hospital room to thank the military for their sacrifice and took pictures with them.. still have that picture! He played in the lobby with his band for them.. Willie lost his voice half way through and canceled performance at the rode cause the military was more important.. Willie is the nicest man alive. He loves his fans and the military..
I think Willie Nelson has sung with just about anybody you can imagine. All they have to do is say, "Willie, you wanna sing with me?" and he'll grab his guitar and join in.
A quick Willie Nelson story:
My cousin has downs syndrome and was in the Special Olympics in Austin, TX when she was younger. Willie was there and spent the whole day pushing kids in wheelchair races, meeting them at the finish lines of different races... All day long. My cousin won her particular race and he met her at the finish line, kissed her on the cheek and handed her his bandanna. He couldn't have made her happier if he had given her a chunk of money. The rest of the summer she wore her hair in braids like Willies and had that bandanna around her head. I always wanted to thank him for making my cousin one happy girl that day. He didn't have to spend the day with these special kids, he could have stayed on his bus and minded his business and nobody would think anything about it. But there he was, making people happy.
I'm a Texas girl spent the first 35 years of my life there and being from Texas you got to love Willie he is a legend in Texas he's also well renowned for his big heart and caring compassion probably 30 years he's been working for the American Farm Aid putting on free concerts here and there and donating the money to the American farmers who are in danger of losing their Farms he's always been known to be a kind and compassionate caring person and one person said everybody sings with Willie all you got to do is pick up your guitar and say come on Willie and he does but as another side to that the point is that Willie is such a legend that everybody wants to sing with Willie and he's just got a big enough heart that he cares about everybody

He was somehow even confused about what he was suppose to do except he knew he was suppose to play guitar. Kid Rock said, no worries, we're just gonna do Sweet Home Alabama. Everybody knows that. Cue Lil Wayne looking like a deer in the headlights 'cause he didn't know it. I think that's the way its always been with genuine musicians. They keep the traditions of respecting great elder musicians alive, rather they are in your genre or not. They seem to simply connect on that level and understand each other.

Willie Nelson wrote so many hits for other artists. He is an incredible song writer! He has always gotten high and got into trouble a few times. Robert Mitchum the famous actor was arrested and served time in 1954. He got out and was back to acting.

In the early 2000's I lived in Nebraska City, Nebraska and worked at the Apple House in the Maintenance area taking care of the front of the Lied Center. Willie Nelson was there. His bus parked out side the center. I and another female worker got to meet Willie who was out walking the trail.
