I think it's important to mention that EXO releases Winter albums, not Christmas albums. So the songs are suited for the season, not necessarily about the holiday.
100% agree. There are songs ofc that have those jingle sounds but majority definitely are just warm, cozy, feel good songs. I’m from Australia so I always listening to them in Summer.. SO TRUST ME when I say these songs are for any season 😌
It hurts me to think about how exo stopped releasing winter albums because sm stopped investing in them as much. I know it makes sense from a business standpoint but to know how happy they were to have Christmas stages in the winter and how their winter songs have become staples in South Korea, it's difficult as a fan because I want the best from them
It literally makes no sense even from a business standpoint to stop investing in exo...they are till now the most streamed sm group of 2021...and they have been in hiatus for two years. Sm is just running after new stuff and getting bigger in us. In 2020 and 2021, SM ent dropped out of big three and became a mid sized company. Tell me, which groups had the most comebacks in those 2 years? Cuz exo is in hiatus. Anyway, i didnt want to write this much but it annoys me to see 'business standpoint' mentioned as an excuse for sm mistreatment of exo.

And the GP received their winter releases well. I just do not understand what SM is thinking. Usually you invest in retaining the success as long as possible and optimize where needed. Instead SM’s management seems to be cash grabbers looking for the next quick fix.

I think Miracles in December surprises most people because in other cultures, whether you're from North America, Europe or even Africa, Christmas songs are usually upbeat and corny and don't have much meaning beyond putting you in a good mood. In certain parts of Asia, South Korea especially, Christmas is actually a lovers holiday. People don't spend it with their families opening presents and drinking hot beverages, they go on dates, propose to their girlfriends, etc. That's why EXO tends to release ballads and love songs for Christmas. Not only does it allow them to profit from the period, but it allows them to showcase their vocals.
Our Christmas songs aren't upbeat or corny, they're melancholic and nostalgic, and I'm European. Not everyone's Christmas traditions can be reduced down to rocking around the Christmas tree and rudolph the nosed reindeer.

Even though I thoroughly enjoy watching The Eve’s dance practice - I do kinda wish there was a music video. It’s such an underrated song sonically because people just relate it to the dance straight away. It’s one of my fave songs from them though 🙌🏼

I wasn’t even an exol when I listened to chen’s albums when I was studying but I should say if back then I knew chen’s YT channel I definitely would play those videos on repeat . miracles in december is sad but it comforts me. that song is literally calms me down so i tend to listen to this song whenever i feel scared or whenever i overthink. definitely a great great great song.

Oh when you said self portrait as your comforting album you listen whe you are studying I thought about myself. I wasn’t even an exol when I listened to chen’s albums when I was studying but I should say if back then I knew chen’s YT channel I definitely would play those videos on repeat . Self portrait is a good choice too. Such a masterpiece.
