In the video on the left you see the Visumax Laser correcting the myopia and astigmatism by making an ultrathin customized lenticule through a microscopic incision at the top of the cornea. In the video on the right you see the dissection and removal of the disc. SMILE is minimally invasive and we no longer have to create the large incision flap that is made with traditional Lasik. Recovery time is immediate. The next day my patients can go back to wearing make up, working out, and swimming. We have had professional athletes compete in a game the day after surgery. Another advantage of not creating a flap is that SMILE does not disrupt the nerves of the cornea that are responsible for normal tear production.
