I have always saluted her. Incidentally she passed away on 8th July 1950. She left a legacy to us Zanzibari which we shuould treasure. Unfortunately most of us don't. Having been born on the day she died, I dont wonder why I love conventional taarab of Zanzibar. I sincerly believe that her last breath was my first one. RIP Siti Bint Saad
You are holding a treasure of the Swahili people, Siti bint Saad recorded over 150 albums until her death in 1950. The records are impossible to find. She mostly recorded in India. The first East African to record commercially, born to slavery and rose to become an icon of taarab music. Congrats and keep it safe!
The first taarab superstar, indeed the first Swahili superstar, was Siti bint Saad. Beginning in 1928, she and her band were the first from the region to make commercial recordings. See more on wikipedia Music of Tanzania

This is the African hidden treasure... We have to find it and shade some dusts on it so as it can shine again all over the world...
