The retreat at 7:42 is also illegal. That retreat take it closer to the enemy. There is no other place to go, so that block is destroyed.

Would you please make a video with a night turn and a second day, like in Gettysburg, I can’t figure out how where and when to setup the recovering blocks, if they are fresh or spent, if the remaining blocks become fresh the next morning, or if they need to rally, etc…
Also have you considered allowing the bags to repack and move during the night, since whole divisions are recovered from the dead pile (This especially useful for the Waterloo campaign, more than Gettysburg)?

There are rules with the Waterloo campaign for packing up and unpacking later. To unpack later you must be 3 foot moves away, which makes it nearly impossible to do on the same map. Packing up bags is considered a major undertaking, and is generally not possible in a battle.
Remember, the bags represent more than just the supply wagons, they also include hospitals, engineering troops, as well as kitchens and so forth. Essentially, everything that makes the "city" of tens of thousands of souls function. It's not as simple as grabbing some wagons and moving back a couple miles.
Blocks that are recovered during the night turn and are placed within command range of their HQs, and are fresh.

Gettysburg brigades should be coming out soon, and that will get the multi-day battle treatment. Thank you for your comment, I will be sure and be clear about the overnight procedure.

I think I am liking the randomness.
Will it be a good day?
    Will Musket battle post?

Might be a little hot and miss. I have a friend who is building me a camera dolly that will allow me to record better videos. Sometime in the next month, that will happen. [Happy dance]

Also note that Jackson has opened up their northern supply route. Cutting the southern one is now moot. Lee can trace supply to the north and escape that way, back across the Potomac.
If the Feds were able to keep that northern route blocked also, this would be a HUGE victory. Almost all of the rebel blocks would have counted as: destroyed!!

@@marshallbarrington4986 The map shows no Northern supply route. The only to shown on the map are to the South.

@@SoloBattles It starts off not being one because it is blocked. It only becomes one when cleared. It is on the map. Not shown in the scenario.
It was explained better in text in the older editions. We should probably clarify it better in what we have now.

Same with Ewell's attack at 11:20. He would be destroyed if he had to attack back from there because the path to the bridge would bring him closer to the enemy troops behind him. That is towards the enemy, not away from the.
I see a few other examples later, but you get the idea. =)

I see on top of page 7 on the 4.0 rules an example with the comment "this piece can retreat because the majority of the piece can fit between the enemy pieces." I would say the drawing shows the retreating unit brought closer to the enemy troops behind him. Or am I mistaken?

Another example: 6:39. Doubleday can't retreat from there. That is not back and away from the enemy. It takes him closer to the enemy or at the very least, laterally across the enemy. Can't do that. Must be "back and away from". Both of those blocks would be destroyed if forced to retreat.
